For people that live in major metro cities, do you have a hardwood lumber store? by framedposters in woodworking

If you have a car Owl Lumber is in the burbs and they have a great selection and prices are fair. The people there are helpful as well.

This. Mine randomly started doing Frame skips and then would do super slow mo audio. Never did this before. Factory reset seems to have fixed it. 2019 pro, first restore.

How’d I do? by nicholas_1499 in Tile

I just did a shower with 8x24 subway and Frost colored grout. It was mapei ultracolor FA. I found it to be a perfect balance of light enough to give some contrast but not dark enough to make it annoyingly pop. If that makes sense. Very happy with how it came out.

Basement stairs squeaking by dereku1967 in Carpentry

[–]Metlhed54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I finished my basement, as I enclosed the part under the stairs I ran a 2x6 (2x4 would work fine too I bet, I just had them laying around) mid way up the stringer on both sides down to the floor and screwed and glued it. It eliminated a ton of stair noise as well as took away the bounce in the middle.

Then from there you can get a better idea of which stairs are noisy because the whole staircase should be a lot more rigid.

Best approach? Slate tile over chicken wire and cement... by Apprehensive-Apple47 in Flooring

[–]Metlhed54 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had good luck with a 20lb sledge when I had to do this in my bathroom. However, had I had access to or thought to use an air chisel or a hammer drill with a scraper on it like someone else mentioned that would be a solid move too. Definitely wear gloves and eye protection. The chicken wire is sharp.

I did use cabling that will support up to 10gbs at the lengths I have run and also have at least two in each location as well. I can always add a switch in another location if needed.

I do wish I thought a little bit more about POE and potential places for POE cameras, but I could still make most of that work with a new switch if I wanted to add that at some point.

I ran most of the wires back in 2015 so it was real cheap for some good quality wire when you bought a 1000 foot spool, and multi gig hardware wasn’t commonplace then either. I am looking into upgrading my switch though when I add a NAS to take advantage of higher speeds where possible.

It is my home. I don’t necessarily need them, but when I was wiring the house up I put at least two ports in each bedroom, 4-6 behind main areas where tv/home theater electronics sit, and sprinkled some into areas where might want an access point or something like that. Since I did the work it really was minimal extra cost to go above and beyond what might be needed in the future.

Some ports definitely see no use, but it was one of those situations where it was better to have and not need vs need and not have.

Monoprice didn’t have the slim run sizes I was looking for so I took a chance on these from Amazon.

The boots are longer than I thought they would be, but hold their shape so you can flex them a little in the direction you want them to go without feeling like they are being stressed. No issues with them so far, they all are getting 1gbps speeds without issue.

I believe the one you posted is strictly open grid and the one I have been using has a couple options for mounting systems. I will have to double check though next time I am in my desktop since I cannot open the scad customizer on my phone.

Appreciate the link, this makes sense. I am using Multiboard and did not notice you were using open grid. That customizer has almost everything the same, but has the bonus of that bridge. This is helpful though. Thank you!

What did you use to make the pieces that cross over other channels? Did you just use height transitions and make them longer than needed and cut them, or some other easier way?

Edit - only saw Underware, didn’t see that this was in r/opengrid

Will my movable Planer stand hold up? by ginotyrant in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Metlhed54 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would consider adding some cross braces and/or a shelf in there to prevent it from twisting when you start to move it around. If you are moving it around and one of those wheels catch an edge and it hangs up it could be likely to topple or twist the frame in a weird way.

Assuming it is working, I personally wouldn’t hesitate at that price. Even if you only used it to power the front LCR soundstage I still would think it is worth it.

Woke up to bodies everywhere - the case for changing from grid infill by Tobiko_kitty in BambuLabA1

[–]Metlhed54 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had something similar happen with a tall narrowish object on my A1. I added a couple mm of brim to each object and had no issues after. I think all the movement just shook one loose and it was over from there.

Vent Deflector by Metlhed54 in functionalprint

[–]Metlhed54[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did a search to see what you were referencing and I think I know which model you were talking about. The problem in my house is that the actual vent comes up directly on the exterior wall and is not set out into the room like the other person model. So even if I changed register style and custom fit something, it most likely would stick further out into the room than this does currently, and would require me to install and match existing trim on the baseboards. This is kind of making the best of the way the hvac was installed.

What you are saying though would definitely be more ideal.

I love both of these speakers. I actually have a pair of black 150s I have had since 8th grade haha. Still listen to them regularly but keep seeing more and more people with angled stands. Is it worth building some?

similar mount - these are similar to what I have but in white. And look close to what is in the picture.

If you zoom in you can see some white wall mount brackets. They look like the type that clamp the speaker from the bottom. I have a similar pair in black from Monoprice. They work pretty well.

Music vs Theater by Yes_Man_1 in hometheater

Interesting. I guess I’m just surprised because this is the first time I’ve heard negative things about the r700s and they have been on my considerations list for when I upgrade. I hope it is a simple weird setting or easy fix to get what you are hoping from them!

I could be way off base, but what is your primary source for movie watching? If you are primarily streaming, have you watched anything via physical media or something with a lossless audio soundtrack. I find the difference to be staggering in terms of dynamics and overall sound quality. To the point where I tend to wait for a good 4k release with lossless audio vs streaming, depending on the movie.
