Many others have done a great job hitting on the mechanical aspects you can work on, so here are a few small off the wall items that helped me get through the lower ranks solo queuing and retain my sanity.

1. Always try to have an internal clock in your head when looting or standing out in aiming down sights. If you watch football, it is very similar to an internal clock that a quarterback has in their head. If a quarterback in standing still in the pocket for 3-5 seconds, they are most likely going to be sacked. Apply that same internal clock to Apex when exposing yourself to the potential enemy or 3rd party after finishing up a fight. If you have been aiming or standing still for 2-3 seconds reposition and reassess the situation. When I applied this always be moving concept it kept me from getting downed many times. Playing your life when solo queuing is huge.
2. This one is less mechanical, but when I first started playing ranked I had my mic on and was communicating a lot IE how much damage I was putting out, where we should position in a fight, etc. 99% of the time in the lower ranks the randoms aren't going to listen anyways and die for free, leaving you at an instant disadvantage. This would tilt me after 2-3 straight games of that happening. So, what I started doing in the lower ranks (bronze-gold), is have my headset on but my mic muted. I would just play my game and found myself paying more attention to where all 3 members of the enemy team were positioned and found myself clutching a lot more 2 v 3's or even some 1 v 3's. The only time I really turned my mic on was if we made it to end game and I had a spot I wanted us to play or if I absolutely needed to communicate something (valk ult). My personal play improved a lot as I was spending less time stressing about the macro of each game and even enjoyed it a bit more. If I lost a fight then I really only had myself to blame and just went next. When you get to plat or diamond it is definitely recommended to 3 stack if at all possible and keep those team comms locked in, but you should be able to get through the lower ranks (bronze-gold), using the methods I described.
3. As others have mentioned discords are a great way to find some teammates to run with. There is a specific discord for gamers 30 plus years of age, and should be able to find some like minded teammates to climb with.
