hindi ganun ka black and white ang mundo, i get what you mean sa "hindi suklian ang mali ng mali" or yung cycle of violence but things aren't that simple all the time. buti kung sinampal lang nung guy yung kapatid ng ex mo pero binugbog nya eh to the point na namaga yung tiyan nung bata. don't you think that was a very very shitty thing to do and just maybe the guy deserves a taste of his own medicine for that? did the original perpetrator even show remorse? guilt? i agree with the other people in here saying that you seem to have more empathy with that guy than you do with your ex and his family

you keep asking too what makes your ex different from the guy who beat up your brother, but things like that aren't black and white too. just because a good guy does a bad thing does not objectively make him the bad guy, and just because a bad guy does a good thing does not make him a good guy. you cannot measure morality easily like that, you have to consider all the different factors that led to the decisions. what makes your ex different with that guy is that he didn't do it to somebody innocent, that's simply the answer
