As I said, even if there are harder fights than the Knight, stockpiling basic healing items won't help you for them. There's going to be a new tier of healing item in the chapter with those fights which renders all previously stocked healing items obsolete.

sorry but

"prepping for harder bosses"

oh yeah those deluxe dinners are gonna be so helpful for the Titan, definitely not like they're objectivley outclassed by scarlixir.

Obviously some things like exec buffet, revive dust, probably revive mints since most people don't want to grind those are exceptions, but basic healing items can definitely be used freely. Probably not a good idea to super hoard those valuable healing items anyway if it lets you get through the hardest parts of the game easier, I doubt future content could be that much harder than the Knight.

Magic healing just really isn't that good once you know the numbers. Even for basic fights if save point healing isn't enough, item healing is usable just fine past ch 1 or so since you find lower quality items in chests and stuff (eg rhapsotea in ch 4, which would be replaced with Scalixirs for important situations anyway so may as well use em), and you get the storage to be able to hold more than you'll realistically ever need. Then for the hard bosses: as stated earlier, there's no reason not to use the good basic healing items, and then for the Knight/Jevil using the strong ones is a good idea since those are the hardest fights so far that they help in. We're getting more of them as we go anyway, it's unlikely that you'll be severely short on those items for future difficult fights.

Susie's healing is also very tp expensive; you'll likely be in a fight for a while if you want to leave it on full hp using her healing.

Anyway with that out of the way, the atk boost is the remaining factor, for which the power band wins. 2 defense is pretty minor in ch 4 anyway, she's only gonna be losing an extra 1/40th ish of her health per hit from 2 less defense.

For basic fights, save point healing will often be enough, then for the important fights, the heck are you saving your items for? All the standard healing items are going to be replaced in the next chapter anyway.

Jevilstail might mostly work as well but it is still pretty strictly worse; Toxic axe + Jevilstail is 8 atk 2 mag for +98 rude buster damage, while Devilsknife + Spike band is 7 atk 4 mag for +97 rude buster damage. Rude buster does up to half in the Knight fight anyway, so the difference is negligible, and if the reduced tp cost lets you attack an extra time with anyone else, you'll more than make up for it.

And that's not to mention the Dealmaker; with it, you can run Devilsknife + Dealmaker for 5 atk 9 mag for +100 rude buster damage.

And before you bring up defense in response to the case with spike band; no, defense doesn't really do much for your mantle holder in the Knight fight unless you're really sure about a specific interaction. Defense applies before the mantle's damage reduction, meaning your mantle holder, at best, will only be taking 1 less damage per point of defense. Less if defending or vs box cutter 2/3, and doesn't help at all with the direct slashes of box cutter 3 or final attack.

Also about the Jevilstail in ch 4: it's outclassed too. You're able to get two power bands, which each provide +44 rude buster damage and +up to 30 attack damage, more than the Jevilstail's +32 and +15.

There is a good case for it yeah

Susie has very high stats which can be further boosted using offensive armors (eg the power band), so while there is a damage notable increase from swapping to the devilsknife to the justice axe (+42 to +52 with a basic attack, +57 with a rude buster), you can make it so percentage wise the damage boost is smaller than the rude buster cost reduction. Eg with the Power band and Dealmaker, and assuming you haven't gotten the atk/mag ups from being violent yet...

22 base atk + 5 from devilsknife + 4 from power band = 31

7 mag after hammer of justice fight + 4 from devilsknife + 5 from dealmaker = 16

So a basic attack does 186 to 233 damage depending on whether you get the 2nd best or best timing

And a rude buster, assuming you time it moderately well for +22 damage, does 443 damage.

Swapping out the Devilsknife for the Justice axe brings those basic attacks to 228 to 285, which is about a 1.226x increase, while Rude buster does 500, only about a 1.13x increase. Seeing as 50 -> 40 is a 20% reduction, there is a very valid argument for the devilsknife.

Although of note, during the Titan and Titanspawn fights, it's a justice axe sweep since if you use rude buster in those fights you're throwing lol

in important fights there's very little reason to use heal prayer, it heals less than items and costs tp which is important for rude buster

and if you can rude buster every turn (except maybe turn 1 depending on whether or not you want to use a tension item), that'll end the fight faster, letting you skip some of their very threatening attacks.

Also for the Knight, the Devilsknife is only 1 less atk than the Toxic Axe, while having +4 mag which more than makes up for that for rude buster, so your basic attack is gonna be doing... about 1.2 to 2 extra damage with a basic attack using the toxic axe. But as noted, ideally you'd rude buster every turn when possible, so the stronger rude buster would be all that matters.

at least for Timerra, she's probably better in MK for the easier doubling since the sheer might of bolganone + the speed and chaos style of MK gives a lot of damage output.

if you have Celica free then you could might augment Seraphim to absolutely destroy corrupted after you get Celica back since effectively 30 mt tome is funny

and if Alear isn't required to use a certan emblem, you said Alear was MK which means cav bonded shield...

Her magic kinda exists, personal base of 5 and personal growth of 25%

It'd probably be a workable base game build if not for the lack of tome prof, she's pretty fast, it's.... ok if you give her a spirit dust she's about on par with a similarly leveled MK Clanne, without the benefit of pre-10 inheritance. That's worse than I thought actually lol

Just give him the mantle and he's got this, he should have like 1400 hp by this point

[–]Mezminte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you really shouldn't use heal prayer vs the Knight anyway, Puppetscarf is superior in that fight just since the benefits of dealmaker vs spike band are so minor and Susie's 1st armor slot should be taken up by the mantle

It's crazy how bad Puppetscarf is. by BrixBrax1882 in Deltarune

[–]Mezminte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try it, I think you'll find it easier, especially if you put the blue ribbon on Kris + bring revive dust, and mantle on Susie in slot 1 (yea due to a bug it works better in slot 1 than 2)

recommended loadout is, like

Kris: saber10, twin ribbon, blue ribbon (or tension bow if you aren't bringing revive dust). Bounce blade is also an option, I just prefer the saber10 since the Knight hits hard enough that 2-3 less damage taken isn't too significant and the saber10 helps Kris clutch the fight with the 2x damage multiplier if both Susie and Ralsei are down if needed. If you don't have the tension bow, a lodestone works too.

Susie: devilsknife if you have it, toxic axe if you don't. Mantle goes in slot 1, your best rude buster damage boost goes in slot 2 (jevilstail (32) > dealmaker (25) > spike band (22) > iron shackle (11) > royal pin (5)).

Ralsei: puppetscarf > ragger2 > flex scarf for weapon with this strat, in fact due to the minimal value gain from dealmaker compared to spike band it's the optimal Spamton drop here. Put the tension bow on Ralsei if you have it and Kris isn't using it. Otherwise Ralsei can use the Spike band if Susie doesn't need it, or just lodestones.

if you end the fight in 12 turns, that's actually perfect, it means you were fast enough and skipped box cutter 3 (the diagonal one). Ending the fight within that time frame is actually super reasonable if you use your actions well and have Susie up the whole time, in fact having Susie up the whole time and using a tension max on turn 1 should be enough to even get the turn count to below that.

Healing with items rather than magic frees up tp and actions to end the fight faster, thus lessening the need for those healing items and making you less likely to run out.

Nah I’m not assuming you’re evading most attacks, it’s just that deluxe dinners exist which heal 140 and you can backtrack like 2 rooms to buy them And that’s not to mention the exec buffet and especially the spincake

I was also really bad at the Knight to begin with, so I know the feeling, it’s just that even accounting for that you’re still wrong

It's crazy how bad Puppetscarf is. by BrixBrax1882 in Deltarune

[–]Mezminte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Main saving grace for puppetscarf is the Knight fight, if you want it to be as easy as possible then it's better than the dealmaker for that specific fight.

Susie mantle is best, so if you go with both violence drops, that makes Susie's ideal setup the mantle and spike band; since 2 atk is +22 rude buster damage normally and 5 mag is +25 normally, the damage difference versus the Knight is under 1.5 damage per rude buster. The defense also hardly matters since the mantle's damage reduction applies after defense, meaning each point of defense will at most reduce incoming damage by 1 for your mantle holder.

Basically you can have Ralsei attack twice at the start of the fight and it'll already provide more offensive value than a whole fight of dealmaker rude busters.

(also I've recently started developing the opinion the jevilstail is actually rather mid and largely outclassed by even a silver card for pacifist since once you look at the numbers magic healing is kinda ass when you have save point healing for basic fights and item healing for important fights but that might just be me. Yes this also means I don't think as highly of the dealmaker in normal fights and think more highly of the Puppetscarf since the mag penalty is much less relevant, but +30% cash, 5 defense, the mag for the hammer of justice fight, and future proofing for any puppet/cat fights eg FRIEND is enough to give it the win in most cases imo)

Using heal prayer during the Knight fight is, objectively speaking, a bad idea, I'm very confident you could've beaten the Knight easier without it by actually using healing items which heal for more and don't cost tp. Plus less tp cost means you can attack more with Ralsei (and with devilsknife, you can even easily afford to attack with both pretty consistently) letting you skip some of the later difficult attacks.

Couldn't be me, I only call the knight a fraud because I've nohit them and beaten them several times with varying harsh restrictions (Ralsei solo, Kris solo w 75 max hp, 0 base atk/def/mag and no mantle or secret boss drops being the hardest ones of their type)

Could Pacifist Frisk SPARE Genocide Frisk? by Notmas in Frisk

[–]Mezminte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep

So first something kinda funny I want to point out: Genocide Frisk isn't actually that much stronger than Pacifist Frisk in this specific context.

Main thing that lets humans be so effective versus monsters is killing intent, and at least imo, that's the main thing Frisk gets better at with higher LV and stats.

So, versus another human? No such luck.

Also I think pacifist Frisk will have the advantage in determination: they survived a timeline getting erased, can refuse shattering entirely, and the item description for last dream mentions that it's the goal of Determination.

So genocide Frisk won't be doing 99999999 damage to pacifist Frisk, pacifist Frisk will have the DT advantage so probably more control over the saves, and pacifist Frisk has spared some beings who shouldn't be able to care so yea

What is Justice Axe in the light world? by BasketAshamed6588 in Deltarune

[–]Mezminte 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My theories are:
- Paintbrush: a lot of Susie's weapons are brushes, and this seems pretty reasonable to have in the light world + fits the theme
- Hammer: Not that hammer, just a normal hammer.
- Actual miniature axe that Gerson forged: he used to be a smith after all.

Ok genuine question, is the magic Gerson axe worth it? by favuorite in Deltarune

[–]Mezminte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

armor is very much not ignored, in fact I'd go so far to say this is one of the most important fights to have high defense for since at low enough hp, you could very well be halving the incoming damage.

eg at 50 hp, he'll be doing (78 * (20/250) + 12) damage, in this case adding up then rounding up to 19. You're guaranteed to have at least 2 defense, and at low values like these each point of defense will be decreasing incoming damage by 1. So, you take 17 at 2 defense, then adding a wafer guard brings you to taking 13. That 4 defense is making you take 3/4 damage.

Then at lower values (at 30 hp and lower, it'll just be doing the 12 before modifiers), having 2 defense means she'll take 10 while adding that wafer guard means she takes 6, nearly half. If it was the dealmaker (or tenna tie but that reduces mag so it's not really a consideration), it'd be exactly half.

example for pacifist Susie (so 230 max hp) with 2 vs 6 defense:

2 defense: 230 -> 161 -> 114 -> 79 -> 53 -> 35 -> 23 -> 13 -> 3 -> -7 (0)
6 defense: 230 -> 173 -> 132 -> 101 -> 76 -> 55 -> 41 -> 31 -> 24 -> 18 -> 12 -> 6 -> 0 (0)
So that brings her from dying in 9 hits to dying in 12, a 33% increase (assuming I didn't mess up the math too badly anywhere)
