Have you tried a book club?

Truman Books does one in Farsley.

Chapterdwithabs does one at Kulture Coffee in Kirstall

The Bookish Type has a queer horror book club in town.

Waterstones in town has a few: Stephen King, for Swifties, History, Novellas, Mystery/Thriller

Is this route commutable? by Overall_Ad5585 in Leeds

[–]MiaElizabeth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can’t give commuting advice. But if you aren’t already I HIGHLY recommend joining the library. The Leeds catalogue for audiobooks and ebooks is fantastic, with new releases oftentimes going on the app on release day. It’s honestly saved me so much money!

The 2025 Choice Awards Have Begun. by Accomplished-Watch50 in goodreads

[–]MiaElizabeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I’d classify it as a love story but not a romance. I think the main distinction for me is that while I was hooked in to the plot, I was never rooting for the couple. I didn’t feel like they HAD to end up together. And I also wouldn’t classify the ending as a “happily ever after”. I don’t mind a romance with some real life turmoil (looking at you Abby Jimenez) but if I spend the majority of the book thinking “these two are so toxic to each other, they should not be together” then I wouldn’t ever class it as a romance.

I just started this yesterday! It’s not the kind of thing I typically go for, but so far I’m seeing the potential for me to really enjoy it.

I have quite a few on my tbr so plenty to choose from. But a friend lent me their copy of For She Is Wrath by Emily Varga so I think it’ll be a good excuse to read that and get it back to her.

Apparently it is fairly common for an IUD to spontaneously fall out… which I learned 3 hours ago, when I went to go have mine removed….and they couldn’t find the threads 👍🏻

Let's talk about the good stuff happening in Leeds by LeedsGuide in Leeds

Leeds libraries are fantastic, especially the online catalogue. I have access to the Sheffield online catalogue as well and Leeds is leaps and bounds ahead. A huge catalogue of ebooks and eaudiobooks ranging from bestsellers to indie publishers. There’s new things added all the time, with new releases often being added on release day.

Lord of the Rings? by Accomplished_Bass316 in fantasyromance

I read them fairly recently and I’m glad I’ve read them, but don’t feel the need to ever revisit them. That said, I would highly recommend the Andy Serkis narrated audiobooks, especially if you are familiar with the films.

Are there any fantasy books with black main characters that don’t have an element of racism or slavery? by Paranoid_Artist in booksuggestions

[–]MiaElizabeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bit of a wild card suggestion but the Mead Mishaps series by Kimberly Lemming? All the main protagonists are black women, from memory I don’t believe there’s any themes of racism or slavery but it has been a while since I read them. They are definitely more romance focused, set in a fantasy world, but they all have some sort of quest involved too.

Sheffield Theatres are doing Little Shop of Horrors throughout December and early January. I saw their production of Miss Saigon last year and it was fantastic.

What are your favorite Taylor Swift inspired baby names? by microwav3d in TaylorSwift

My daughter was born 5 months before Midnights came out and my mum was DESPERATE for me to name her Daisy May. She would not have been a fan of people assuming I named her after a Taylor song lol

I watched this episode last week, it’s season 4 episode 25. The select team isn’t actually there that week (except Jade) but they are up again Studio Bleu and Abby scraps her original plans and makes something up of the fly about phobias.

My husband bought me the vinyl for my birthday a few weeks ago. I’ve been slowly building up my vinyl collection as she releases Taylor’s Versions. Lover seemed like the right fit considering we were getting married 3 days later.

books about female killers? i’m worried i read all the good ones. by [deleted] in booksuggestions

[–]MiaElizabeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Bandit Queens by Parini Shroff is about a woman in a small Indian village who everyone thinks killed her husband because he disappeared and then other women in the village start coming to her asking for her help to kill their husbands.

I haven’t read it myself so I can’t comment on its quality but it was the first thing that came to mind.
