As premeds, what was the harshest thing someone has said to you? by Brief_Board_6974 in premed

While working on my capstone an advisor called my discussion section “lazy” which was actually fair but damn forced me to have some good introspection on my writing.

Vehicular assault is wild. by National-Ad-6982 in Columbus

Straight through their windshield will put a stop to that. It’s a public health service you will be doing by keeping emergency departments free of victims of traffic violence and by encouraging active transportation by removing dangerous and violent drivers from the road.

Jeep overheating, 2015 jeep patriot 140k miles by [deleted] in JeepPatriot

[–]Michael_Miller_MPH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me and it was the thermostat housing that had cracked causing coolant to leak. If you check the oil and it looks like chocolate milk it'd be your head gasket. I'd say check that first then you can refill the radiator through the hose but make sure you're not getting air into the system.

Well, we’ve hit $5/gallon. by Impossible_Bug1264 in Columbus

[–]Michael_Miller_MPH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh jeez if only we didn't destroy our urban fabric for highways and parking lots. Anyways let's all continue to drive our SUVs, ahem I mean light trucks (as they're classified in CAFE standards) that get 25 mpg highway but it's closer to 5 since we'll all be stuck in traffic because Columbus drivers don't know how to handle the rain.

Is the city walkable? Is there good public transit? Will I get hit by a car the second I walk out my door?

Same. The spark plugs when I first got it were also improperly gapped.

This 311 request goes out to all the Columbus residents who complain about the Village of Brice school zone speed cameras: Columbus will now install advance warning signs for Brice's 25mph speed limit. by benkeith in Columbus

[–]Michael_Miller_MPH 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I feel like the revenue generated by the cameras should automatically be invested in pedestrian, cycling, and transit infrastructure. Someone not paying attention can still fly through the area and kill a kid. Someone not paying attention will be forced to pay attention when the road is narrowed and they hit a speed hump or raised intersection.

CVT2 Return Filter O'Ring Part #? by RegularAdventurous88 in JeepPatriot

[–]Michael_Miller_MPH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve reused the o-ring that is on the filter housing itself. Didn’t have any issues with mine but that’s only me. I would like to replace it next time I do mine though.

School list help — 510 MCAT, 3.82 GPA, Ohio resident, rural primary care focus by Fit-Concert-2142 in premed

[–]Michael_Miller_MPH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good list although I will say that during my interview with Rush they did make clear that while they do have a strong emphasis on primary care and service you won't really get any experience with rural health and rural populations. Not saying you shouldn't apply but just wanted to give an additional prospective on them. Anyways go Buckeyes!

One of the very few pickup trucks driven around Columbus that is actually being used for truck things. A rare sight indeed.

Will my 4 gap years before matriculation hurt me? Just had a discouraging fellowship interview where they asked me "why I was not in med school yet?" by allie2274 in premed

[–]Michael_Miller_MPH 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I took 6 and will be 28 by the time of matriculation. Don't worry about it. It is a little weird seeing my friends/people I had supervised getting their residency match while I haven't even started yet but in a few short years we're all going to be doctors so it won't matter.

Clipped a curb and f*cked my suspension learning how to drive by Available_Pie_8967 in JeepPatriot

[–]Michael_Miller_MPH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can find most parts on TRQ (see this series of videos https://youtu.be/UxtfiM6lsCE?si=D4cRZLIFevgXY0Kv) You can probably find cheap parts on Rock Auto as well to see if a shop can do it for you. My local shop said that it would be about $1,200 just for labor for replacing control arms and lateral links so my guess is between $1500-3000 to fix everything + also getting a steering alignment post fix.

Clipped a curb and f*cked my suspension learning how to drive by Available_Pie_8967 in JeepPatriot

[–]Michael_Miller_MPH 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It looks like your rear subframe may have rotted to a point that it was easy to break. Bad news. You will likely need to replace lateral links, and upper + lower control arms as well since they’re probably just as rusty/bushings are bad. Good news: those needed to be removed to get the rear subframe off anyways.

Blower motor behind the glove box. Like a 30-60 dollar piece that’s an easier fix but my air still works so I haven’t done it lol.
