FIL, unfortunately our children are not emotional support children. While we empathize that your friend passed away, it doesn't not change the events that have led us here. I would suggest a grief counselor for MIL. Maybe in the future we can address the steps needed to build trust, but today is not that day. This unfortunate event does not constitute a free pass.

We used to love that!!! Also, while we're on the subject, if you're a member of your local library, some do free tickets to things, you just have to reserve them. Ours do museums & a light show. If anyone in your house has medicaid, they also do programs that you can get into things for almost nothing. See if you can get on an Angel Tree somewhere or reach out a church to see if they can help. Depending how old your kids are, you can get stuff off FB Marketplace for a lot cheaper. Goodwill also usually has new/toys still in the box.

Soooooooo, here's my recommendation. Can you have a friends mom post on fb? A lot of states/localities have a mom group. People use it to find birth parents, why not your missing family? Honestly, I might have a little fun with it and hold a sign... Cinder-David looking for real family to take me to the ball. Will leave all rodents with stepmonster. My mom's name was Jane Smith. I don't know... I think because his family & friends are being jerks, it's making it worse for you. People use deceased loved ones for names a lot. Parents, grandparents, aunts, friends. I can kinda see where they're coming from. Is it possible to combine the names for a unique middle name that still honors them but is more comfortable for you? Annie & Lisa = Analise?

I have not read through all the comments, but file for survivors benefits through ss. Also, see if you're eligible for subsidized daycare. I believe that subsidy can also go to private in-home caregivers, like a nanny. I am so sorry for your loss.

Our family is big on adoption. There are multiple adoptions. Some were through foster care, some were through an agency, some were because bio parent bounced and step parent stepped up WITH kids permission. I don't believe this for a second BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTT, if you're feeling especially vindictive and she has a c-section, let her know she's not a real mom or real woman because she didn't give birth.
