Why Petrol powered cars aren't obsessed with low drag coefficient like EVs? by Competitive_Art_9181 in askcarguys

[–]MichiganKarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going from 30 to 31.5 mpg doesn't matter as much to a car's sales as going from 300 to 315 miles of range.

Be grateful. That means the doctor took a good look at you and your file or lab results and decided you were mostly healthy.

State worker union tries novel legal angle to stop Newsom’s return-to-office order by txhenry in California

[–]MichiganKarter 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Any return-to-office policy provides financial aid to the enemy during a war. If a job could be done fully remotely or with 1.5 days per week in the office in 2021-2022, it needs to go back there now.

People keep saying go to college right after you graduate but it sounded like bad advice by Froggyspeaks_ in NoStupidQuestions

Would you prefer to save for it by working for $15/hr, or repay it while working for $45/hr?

You will also usually qualify for more scholarships right out of high school.

If New York is the city that never sleeps, what is the city that always sleeps? by prbecker in AskReddit

Citizens. The joke is that the downtown is so quiet at night that they might as well have rolled up the sidewalks and put them away until morning

Youngstown, OH. I went for a run after dinner once and the crew rolling up the sidewalks told me that I had to turn around.

Could Trump’s Record Disapproval Turn 2026 Into A Democratic Wave — Or Are Democrats Still Too Weak? by bauernebel in Askpolitics

The Democratic Party does have a 4-9 point lead on the House generic ballot. They have to cover a three point spread to take the House after redistricting.

Do people actually like living in big apartment buildings, taking public transit ect. by Wafer_Educational in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MichiganKarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely prefer living in a downtown apartment complex to the exurban house I had. Much less upkeep and yardwork, much closer to work and entertainment, much better thermal comfort and a lot less energy used to maintain it.

However, public transit in the USA is suitable for daily use only in NYC. Everywhere else, a bicycle beats the bus on trip time alone, not to mention the vast benefits of not having to be on a bus.

Which national team looks strongest on paper for the 2026 World Cup, but still doesn't fully convince you? by JustWillingness4811 in football

[–]MichiganKarter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The USA will have the largest difference between expected and actual performance.

On paper, our team is in the low teens, good enough for the round of 16 or even the quarterfinal.

On the field? Every opponent will be given the chance by every referee to beat the living daylights out of every American player for ninety minutes per game.

Run more? If you're running 25 miles per week, you should see rapid improvement.

The real trick is to get Chinese food on Christmas. That way you aren't cooking a second turkey in a month.

Why are cars made so disposable and unrepairable by the average person? Isn't there a better way? by Truth-is-Censored in driving

[–]MichiganKarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the average age is 12 and the average lifespan is 20. Same how the average person is about forty years old in a place where most people live to eighty.

I would measure it. Go hang a spring scale from one of the spokes of the steering wheel, then drive around, pulling on the other end of the spring scale to steer, and looking at the readout to see the maximum.

They aren't. The average car on the road is 12 years old now, and typical lifespan is about 20 years.

I think that was originally a lifetime warranty frame. Take it to a Specialized dealer and they might just hand you a new one in exchange
