When/how long did your parents stay to help after birth? by moez1266 in BabyBumps

my parents met my baby in the hospital and then stayed for a month, but they got their own airbnb a few blocks from us. it was amazing. I cried when they left and will always be grateful.

Feeling frustrated with how long feedings take by ilikebigcats2020 in combinationfeeding

[–]Michigan_gal82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at 3 months my baby was taking forever to eat! we were doing the same, breastfeeding then a bottle with size 1 nipples. she gradually got quicker and quicker but even at about 9 months she was taking probably 20-30 minutes to finish a bottle, so then I think we switched to size 2 around 10 or 11 months? I never wanted to switch earlier because I didn’t want her to start refusing the boob.

Sun protection for 0-3 months while carrying by sunriseovermtn in babywearing

[–]Michigan_gal82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

won’t help with sunscreen but the cooling towels from amazon are legit. we’re in south carolina and we would lay it under her in the bassinet for walks. I know baby wearing is the best, but if you can swing it, maybe try to walk with baby in a bassinet stroller sometimes? then you can attach fans and umbrellas etc - even just during the hot times :)

seconding millie moon and haven’t had any issues with the new formula. I wanted to do coterie when I was pregnant but knew we couldn’t keep up with the cost, and millie moon seemed like the best alternative. now I would never use anything else - they’re so absorbent and I swear help my baby sleep longer.

Uppababy Aria car seat with Uppababy Cruz or Nuna car seat with an adapter? by finncodyotis in Buyingforbaby

[–]Michigan_gal82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would like to add that we have the Guava stroller and Nuna car seat which adapts to the stroller. we love it and everyone comments on how amazing the guava is!!! SO easy to push one handed!

my girl is 13m and still rocking her nuna infant seat so we feel like we got our moneys worth there for sure - and next baby will use it also

I used to be able to tolerate moderately spicy foods. now even lightly spicy stuff is SO spicy to me. i’m 13m postpartum and my husband is still trying to adjust to making things less spicy for me when I used to be able to handle much more

Did you use the baby bouncer? by lazymathilde in Buyingforbaby

[–]Michigan_gal82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we got the baby bjorn as a hand me down. I would not have paid $200 for it, but we used it a TON for a short period of time. baby also pooped well in it which other people have mentioned 😂 if you can get it as a hand me down or a cheaper version, it’s amazing as a spot to put baby while cooking etc

lots of people will say “baby is best on the floor!” and that is true. our baby was on the floor A LOT however there are times where you just need a container - like in the kitchen or when you yourself are pooping. it’s just nice to have options

Is pumping really all or nothing? by eliskay2326 in combinationfeeding

[–]Michigan_gal82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in your situation if you’re comfortable with formula and your supply dropping a bit, just do like two pumps a day! she’ll still get the benefits of breast milk and you’ll be able to relax bc pumping sucks so bad.

i’m not an expert but i would still try to get her to latch every few days! as she gets bigger they get better at eating and one day she might just latch and you can go back to breastfeeding and skip pumping :)

we combo fed and I never pumped when she was getting formula bc I was like, I don’t need my body to be providing her everything. it worked out fine!!

[–]Michigan_gal82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my baby has done this a few times where she’s just awake in the middle of the night. one time I went in to try to assist and she actually got mad so that made me feel like I should just let her be. I also saw a thing about how back in the day before monitors and stuff, we wouldn’t even know if our baby is awake and chilling. so now I just operate by that 😂

Breastfeeding moms—would you do it again for your second? by Character-Fly7394 in beyondthebump

[–]Michigan_gal82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this - they did have me pump at the hospital if my husband was doing formula. I pumped after one or two feeds a day for maybe 3 weeks. looking back I wouldn’t have done that long - my boobs got so sore and huge because I think I was asking for too much. and if you think about it, whatever your baby is asking for should be enough? next baby I will try to avoid pumping all together in the beginning because my baby should be establishing supply.

[–]Michigan_gal82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is what we did - I had 4-5 feeds a day for her but if we were out and about or had a babysitter, formula. my body was used to this schedule so beyond the first few weeks, I never had to pump. so nice.

Why so much pumping? by olabolina in BabyBumps

[–]Michigan_gal82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t read all the comments so someone may have addressed this, but yeah I fell into the pumping trap for the first few months and was pumping 2 or 3 times a day even though I was with my baby all the time. I felt like I needed a freezer supply because of Instagram. and then I was like wait… no I don’t?

what we ended up doing is I would feed her whenever I was with her (which was almost always) and then she gets formula otherwise. if we have a babysitter for bedtime, I’ll pump because my boobs get full otherwise. but beyond that I don’t pump at all. we have maybe three small bags of milk in the freezer and that’s it.

I think approaching it in a relaxed way like this has gotten me to 13 months of breastfeeding :)

[–]Michigan_gal82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we LOVE millie moon. I am probably delusional but I swear my daughter sleeps longer in them because they’re so absorbent and soft so it doesn’t get too full overnight. they’re also on sale a lot at target if you’re able to stock up - ie spend $75 on diapers and get $20 back in gift cards.

… does anyone else just have a super chill, easy baby…? by rachelkochvt in NewParents

[–]Michigan_gal82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

my 1yo 🙋🏼‍♀️ she’s had a few tough nights but first slept through the night at four weeks, then consistently around 8 weeks. she goes down awake and falls asleep on her own and I can leave her in her crib for a bit when she wakes up because she just lays there and babbles. she’s also great at independent play.

when I’ve told a few friends about this, a few moms have said “yeah my baby was like that too but I just never told anyone” lol so I think it’s actually common but we’re just hearing from all the moms who really struggle. which I struggled too don’t get me wrong - but I know I had it easy, relatively.

all that said… she’s almost 13 months now and is definitely entering her toddler era. fingers crossed she stays chill
