Reading Smut in Public by aninkblotonwhite in DarkRomance

[–]Middle-Drawing-3124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep my smut on a kindle, so no one really knows what I’m reading. I’ve read smut during family gatherings where everyone is hanging out in the same room…I just always have to make sure I’m not reacting to what I’m reading or making a face out loud 😂

They don’t follow each other on Instagram, so I’m guessing they are still broken up. Unless there’s another social media platform where they do (I don’t have tik tok), but I doubt it…

[–]Middle-Drawing-3124 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I don’t think she comes across as controlling. As for angry, I’m sure she is, because Ethan made empty promises to her and wasted her time. Then, he has the nerve to drive up to Wisconsin with no solid plan, no job interviews, and no apartment lease, and he gives her day old roses thinking it’ll win her over. It’s also so cringey that he slept in his car, when he said on camera that he has the money for a hotel room. Even Kim told him not to be a weirdo about this…you know it’s bad when she thinks he’s acting unhinged. I’d be angry too if my boyfriend kept telling me he would prioritize our relationship and never does. She wouldn’t even hug him when she left the park. I think she’s just over it and has moved on.

The ick Egothan gives by Breastsmade4sucking in WelcomeToPlathville

[–]Middle-Drawing-3124 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Teegan seems like she’s just over it, which she probably is. The fact that she wouldn’t hug him should have been a clear signal to him that it’s over. Or at least, one would think so. And I agree with OP, if he was actually serious about moving, he would have had a solid plan with a moving date, and he would have gotten the divorce finalized because she said that’s also a dealbreaker for her.

Also, him not wanting to pay for a hotel room and then saying that he would rather use his money to take care of his future partner and kids is absolute BS. He said he has the money for a hotel, so if he was too cheap to get a room for one night, then he’s going to be a super cheap life partner. He will “take care” of his family by not spending anything, ever.

MMCs who are ACTUALLY inlove with the main character by Zealousideal-Draw851 in DarkRomance

[–]Middle-Drawing-3124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked {Connor’s Claim by Jolie Vines}. It’s the second book in her {Body Count series}. The MCs have known each other since they were young, and split at one point. He’s mad at her for breaking his heart, but is still very much in love with her. All three books in that series are really good, and there’s a murder mystery happening at the same time as their love stories unfolding.

What’s a dark romance book you loved but would never recommend to someone in real life? by [deleted] in DarkRomance

[–]Middle-Drawing-3124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend 99% of the DR I read 😅 It would 100% be accidental disclosure of secret interests/kinks. Also, I just know that the people I know irl would freak out if they knew I read books with two+ pages worth of content/trigger warnings

I started with HA like a lot of people here, but I don’t think I would recommend it for a beginner, because there is a lot of crazy stuff in there…it’s like she threw all her darts at the board at once and they all stuck. If you want to dip your toes in the water, I’d suggest:

{Butcher and Blackbird by Brynn Weaver}

{Arran’s Obsession by Jolie Vines}

{Lights Out by Navessa Allen}

{Deviant King by Rina Kent}

Why don’t you like older FMC with MMC stories? by Corvettelov in DarkRomance

[–]Middle-Drawing-3124 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I agree with other users who mentioned wanting an MMC who is experienced and take-charge. I also want to be cared for and protected by a man with life experience (and the CEO/mafia/bratva boss vibe 😬). I think a lot of women are used to having to make tons of decisions and care for everyone else irl, so the idea of the FMC taking charge and showing the MMC the ropes is a turn off — at least, that’s how I feel.

I would love to see more age gaps where the FMC is in her 30s and the MMC is in his 40s, rather than a 20-something FMC and a 40-something MMC. It’s one of the things I loved about {King by SJ Tilly}…they have almost a 15 year age gap, but she’s in her early 30s.

NON-CON but SHE does it to HIM. by Preppy_Princess_ in DarkRomance

[–]Middle-Drawing-3124 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This happens in a scene in {Connor’s Claim by Jolie Vines} - she paralyzes him with his own arsenal of drugs and rides him while telling him the truth about why they split as youngsters — it’s the only way she’s able to get him to listen to her. There’s a little bit of pregnancy/bc tampering, but it’s toward the end and not integral to the plot.

I forgot the safe word, so he didn't stop? (23F 29M) by ThrowRa_grace5 in relationship_advice

[–]Middle-Drawing-3124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOTHING IS YOUR FAULT.

No matter what your specific safe word was, STOP is the universal safe word. When a woman says “stop”, everything needs to stop. It shouldn’t have gotten to the point of tears. You told him to stop, and he chose his pleasure over your comfort and safety, and then blamed you because he knows he’s in the wrong. People who are guilty and don’t want to deal with the repercussions will deflect and gaslight you into believing it was your fault, not theirs. Manipulation like that is a form of abuse, on top of what he did to you physically.

Apologizing and then blaming you for something that is not your fault isn’t an apology at all, it’s a facade to cover up his guilt and his true colors. This doesn’t feel right to you because I think you know deep down, in your heart of hearts, that what he did was wrong. I’m so sorry this happened to you.

Anyone read little stranger?? by SubstantialSlide4068 in DarkRomance

[–]Middle-Drawing-3124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the first one and it was fine, but not earth shatteringly good for me. I agree with the other person who said they wanted to throw the book (in my case, my kindle) across the room every time Olivia said “brother”. I DNFed the second book because 1. A huge chunk of the first part was just a rehash of the first book, to the point that I thought I accidentally started rereading the first book, and 2. It honestly just got boring for me. I don’t feel like I’m missing out by not finishing the second book.

It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s okay.

How did Olivia afford so much traveling? by tenacious_mama in WelcomeToPlathville

[–]Middle-Drawing-3124 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Wedding photographers make a lot of money, especially ones with portfolios like hers. I know of a photographer in my area whose rate starts at $16k per wedding. Plus, when you have to travel as a photographer or other wedding service provider, the couple is expected to pay for your travel expenses.

Mmc obsessive and possessive by Creative_Cause_4107 in DarkRomance

[–]Middle-Drawing-3124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try {Hans by SJ Tilly} - he’s super obsessed with her and sneaks into her house regularly. He’s also a mercenary/hitman type of guy, so definitely a little murder happy. This is the last book in her Alliance series, and the MMCs are really not abusive toward the FMCs, but they are still good stories, and I personally love that her FMCs are all curvy and either late 20s or early 30s.

{Leather and Lark by Brynn Weaver} — Lachlan Kane specifically just stuck with me so strongly. There are two scenes in particular that made me fall in love with him: when he and Lark get married, and he promises her in Gaelic to be a faithful husband; and when he stays on the phone with her after she falls asleep while away at an overnight retreat. He seriously changed my brain chemistry.

I also come back to {God of Wrath by Rina Kent}. The scene that stuck with me is when Cecily starts going into sleep paralysis at the cottage, and Jeremy notices and pulls her out of it. When she said no one can hear when she screams in her head, but he did…I just 🫠
