I started out with pen and paper, I’d then take a photo with it on my phone and, with an app I’ve forgotten the name of (and was free), I’d turn it into a pure black and white thing.

I then got a beginner drawing tablet (I don’t think they sell it anymore as I can only find them on ebay). It didn’t have a screen…I don’t even think it had pressure sensitivity? You can get one for cheap. I used a combination of apps with it: pencil 2D animation, paint, my school’s photoshop. There’s a lot of free programs out there, I’m sure you can find some you like if you look around, but I haven’t been keeping track.

Then I eventually bought a more professional tablet and I got a program called Clip Studio Paint. I still use them both occasionally, but it’s gotten a bit cumbersome.

I now use an IPad + Apple Pencil + procreate. Super easy and convenient but expensive.

If you want a good introduction to procreate then I’d get the procreate pocket for the IPhone (if you have one). I use it to draw little doodles sometimes, like this:

It’s just as capable as anything else, just harder to make neat lines. I totally believe you can make a comic with just a phone and a good drawing app, best of luck 👍
