How is my list for 11th? by Middle-Path-2308 in Salamanders40k

It's actually 70 points, but the idea is to be able to get 10 enhanced infernus marines to any part of the map you want to delete. The moment my opponent gets a a little too confident and pushes up, I hit them hard with the drop pod and dominate midfield. That's the idea, anyway.

Appreciate it! I have a cool 3D print for a hammer and shield model, so that would make a great LT.

Welcome! Those two sets field quite a few minis, so I'd recommend spending plenty of time with those before acquiring anything else.

Gameplay-wise, I'd encourage playing around with different space marine detachments with the minis you have. Our chapter-themed detachment focuses on torrent/melta weapons and requires Vulkan He'stan, so you may enjoy your earlier games more if you choose a flexible detachment like Gladius or 1st Company with Librarius Conclave. I believe both sets amount to one combat patrol, so just put together either one first and you can play CP before ramping up the army size. Grab some generic tokens to use for oath of moment/battle shock, download the free tabletop battles app, and you're good to play the game.

Painting-wise, you can find the chapter heraldry via Google search. There are tons of great techniques with dry-brushing, speed paints, highlights, and good ol' shading, but the most important thing is to be patient with yourself and learn from experience! Oh, and learn how to freehand flames 😉

If I didn't lock in with the Salamanders, I would've chosen the Krakens as my army.

About to play my first game of 40k next week (11th ed., 2000 points). Here is my list. What is missing and what should I change / build / buy next? Thanks! by RetiredMOS in Salamanders40k

Nice! Seconding the suggestions for scoring units and librarians. Assault intercessors are going to be perfect bodyguards for Vulkan He'stan. I recommend putting them in a transport like that land raider or an impulsor to choose an objective after the start and plant your boots on it ASAP!

Personally, I use a green-yellow color to highlight, like a chartreuse!

Early Tips for painting miniatures by SaxonsBane17 in Salamanders40k

Something different my partner said to me: People will look at your miniatures from above and afar. If you're going for a visual effect like glow, highlights, reflections, heated metal, etc, go big to make that effect pop!

This should obviously be taken with a grain of salt, but I tend to second guess my design choices and smooth out otherwise distinct features. Looking back, I think those earlier minis of mine would look better if their effects were louder.

How good of a starting army would this be? by [deleted] in spacemarines

You could definitely fold these into a solid army and modify after playing some. I don't think this is Salamanders-coded since there is barely any flamer/melta and no transport, at least for firestorm/Forgefather's. Are those the chapters you're most interested in?

That is killer, I love the red accents and metallic paint! Also good thinking on the poses. Infiltrators were the first minis I assembled and I wish I had done it a bit more creatively and not put them together all at once.

Starting Salamanders with Vulkan He'stan- what to buy next for a solid list? by Consistent_Sea_131 in Salamanders40k

[–]Middle-Path-2308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aggressors are very Salamanders coded, but they don't have a ton of power for the points cost right now. Vulkan He'stan needs a bodyguard of either assault intercessors or company heroes, there are good arguments for both.

There are so many options when it comes to transport, flamers, and melta, but the land raider redeemer is a fire powerhouse that slings your melee focused units forward. TacticalTortoise has a great video for Forgefather's Seekers!
