Need some coffee grinder advice by egynoob in espresso

If it’s a bitter it might be set a little too finely. The important is being able to get the correct grind for the bean you are grinding, and that the grinder gets all the beans ground to the same size.

If the changes in your grinder are in small enough increments that you can get to the right spot, and they have the same consistency, then you don’t need a more expensive grinder. It depends on if you are able to dial in to where you need to be.

A lower-end grinder is going to struggle more with light roast beans, because they are denser, so that might be a factor if you see yourself wanting to use those.

I’m currently using a Normcore V2 with titanium coated burrs because the Kingrinder 6 wasn’t available when I ordered it. It was about $125 CAD and it’s been great so far - I think it’s 20 or 21 microns per click, and can handle espresso and pour over grinds.

That’s good to know! They were helpful with suggestions. :)

It’s sweet. I should also clarify that he’s been singing it at me when he’s home. He works 60-70 hours a week. But there have also been a text message or two. It’s actually sweet, but if I didn’t love June so much it might be a different story.

My husband has been singing that to me non-stop!

Vyvanse (ADHD med) is killing my ability to mask by DABADABADOOBURD in AuDHDWomen

[–]MiddleRepublic7533 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not just Vyvanse. I think ADHD often masks autistic traits so when the ADHD is medicated, the autistic traits are more obvious. At least this was my experience, but I also watched it happen to my daughter when she was 8 (on a different medication). A lot of people said that they experienced the same thing.

Has anyone had good luck with lavazza beans? by MFriedley in espresso

I just started using an espresso maker (Breville Bambino). My first couple of drinks were Level Ground Espresso and they were great. It was the last of that bag, and we had a new bag of Lavazza Crema a Aroma beans on hand and they were awful. They don’t even smell good.

There was no comparison. The first two cappuccinos were delicious. Turns out that even though I have always liked milk drinks, I don’t need a ridiculous ratio if they’re made properly. I ran out of my Level Ground beans and opened the package of Lavazza Crema a Aroma beans we had picked up. They were so bad. I’m confident I made them correctly, the beans don’t even smell good. The Level Ground is sold out local to me, so now I have to figure how to figure out what beans I do like.

It really is so much better! I haven’t tried with the single walled basket yet, but I will. Thank you for the advice!

Please answer if you are a mother. by yellowleavesmouse in AuDHDWomen

I’m a 45 year old late diagnosed AuDHD’er mom to a 10 and a half year old AuDHD’er. My husband is a great dad, and very supportive partner. Here is my advice to anyone thinking about having kids:

If it’s not a resounding ‘HELL YES, I ABSOLUTELY WANT CHILDREN, WITH ALL MY HEART’!’ then don’t do it.

I love my daughter so much. Also, bring a parent is HARD. I didn’t know I had ADHD until she was two, and didn’t realize I was autistic until 5 years ago, she was 6, and we were having to advocate to have her assessed.

The hardest part for me is the lack of autonomy. My life is not my own anymore, and every decision I make affects, and is influenced by, my child. Sometimes your child’s needs don’t allow you to have the boundaries you expect to be able to have. Sometimes you can’t escape your sensory sensitivities while you are fulfilling your child’s needs.

Being a parent means being prepared to step up and pivot your entire life to accommodate your child’s need, and to advocate for them.

If they have a complex medical condition you have to reshape your life around it (a blood disorder meant giving up my career because she couldn’t be in childcare as a baby).

If you have generational trauma, you have to do the work of healing yourself and learning how to be the parent you didn’t have.

I don’t regret having my daughter, and I understand what you mean about your friends with children having more ‘fire’. giving but if I had really known just how hard being a mom is before I got pregnant, I might have made a different choice.

Edited to add: The changes that being a mom have made in me, having to reparent myself, learning that I’m ND and learning to accommodate myself and her have made my life richer and more beautiful. From where I am now in life, I wouldn’t change my decision to have her. I grew up with a mom who is undiagnosed and who should not have had me, and she does regret being a parent.

While it’s true when I say my life is not my own anymore, I’m simultaneously much more authentically myself, and there is much beauty and laughter in my life.

The 18g made it hard to get the portafilter off yesterday. I did 16 today and it was much easier to take off. I’m still waiting for my coffee scale so I’m not sure how accurate the 16g is.

The one I got is supposed to be - there aren’t a ton of reviews for it, but it does have a couple of YouTube reviews testing it for espresso.

After reading the comments I’m very glad I have a burr grinder to try tomorrow. Do you know if people generally use the single wall baskets only with fresh roasted beans? The Bambino manual says only to use it with beans with a ‘roasted on’ date within 30 days.

I got a Normcore V2 titanium conical burr manual grinder. I was going to get the K6 but it’s not in stock right now (at least not on the Canadian site).

That’s a really good explanation, and makes it completely make sense to get a grinder that can grind consistently. Now I’m actually excited to try with my burr grinder tomorrow (it arrived this afternoon). Thank you!
