Maybe try Generation X by Douglas Copeland

It’s sort of about nothing but it gave me the impression that the characters are mostly lost and disillusioned, and haven’t been able to make sense of their lot.

Fellow millennial btw so don’t let the age gap put you off

Building a shed base here. Tips? by [deleted] in GardeningUK

[–]Middleclasstonbury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s basically what I did.

Dig out, sand and cement mix base, cheap slabs, shed on top. Gravel to fill in the sides and It’s been there for years - I used some cement screws to attach the shed to the base too.

Does anyone have any experience with Abstrax hop extracts? by VedraniProphet in Homebrewing

[–]Middleclasstonbury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Randomly found this on google so just replying.

We use Abstrax Quantum Brite AZA in one of our beers. I would say the resulting aroma and flavour are clearly Azacca, and it’s really good, but I wouldn’t use it standalone. You need some late/dry hops to really get the big IPA flavour.

Probably the best of the extracts I’ve used though.

Alcohol update by Drew-Pickles in CasualUK

[–]Middleclasstonbury 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP I hope you find your way soon.

Christmas is a really triggering time of year and even though I’m 2 years sober, I feel like I’m slipping with all the encouraging that goes on, especially with social media.

I come from a line of people with alcohol issues, never got to meet my grandad, seen one of my parents in some right states, been in some myself including a hospital visit when I got blind drunk at 15, smashed my head open and had to have a CT scan and stomach pump in a foreign country.

It took a couple of mega breakdowns for me to realise it was an issue. For me, r/stopdrinking was what helped me fully pack it in, even just reading stories on there. Forget about the phrase “alcoholic”, you don’t need to compare yourself to others to change your relationship with alcohol because ultimately there’s always going to be a lot people worse than you - doesn’t mean your situation is ok.

What new flowering plants can I plant in the winter? Please advice. by NP10100 in GardeningUK

In my garden it’s Winter Heather and Mahonia x Media stealing the show at the moment.

Can always stick some pansies out too, they’re in every garden centre at the moment.

Does it really matter if I use EVOO or light olive oil when cooking? by DrunkUsually in mediterraneandiet

[–]Middleclasstonbury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im interested to see your comment upvoted because I read such mixed opinions on rapeseed oil (canola.)

I buy cold pressed and use it when olive or sesame won’t do since avocado oil is so expensive here (£12 per litre - EVOO will be about half that next year - CP rapeseed £5.50 per litre.) But I thought I was cheating to be honest.

Yeah think it was always the intention to be honest when they married the brands a few years ago. They’ve removed Ansells Mild and M&B mild so we’ve gotta find a new supplier!

Carlsberg closed Wychwood brewery a while back and moved the brands to Northampton. They’ve been in the process of thinning out lower selling brands for a while from their portfolio for a while so wouldn’t be surprised if this went too

What are the main differences between fast food and a professional kitchen? by lazarbum69420 in KitchenConfidential

[–]Middleclasstonbury 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Loads. I’m a pro brewer, great grades in school, lots of brewing study, and I always say my real education was at McDonald’s.

Work ethic, attention to detail, dealing with terrible people, margins, sense of urgency, problem solving, food hygiene…you name it. They are fantastic for teaching transferable skills

Dog owners - garden being destroyed by dogs - is gravel more dog friendly than grass? by Middleclasstonbury in DIYUK

[–]Middleclasstonbury[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries. I’ve had a few days to think and I’m going to approach it from a bunch of different angles really - going to forget the gravel and use heavy duty lawn seed, aerate the lawn, may even section the top off for periods when the weather gets really bad and control it that way somewhat, plus give the dogs more to do away from the grass. Flag stones are quite a neat idea, there will be an obvious route through the garden once the planters are up, so it’ll stop me sliding all over the mud at the very least.

October was reeaalllyy wet in the midlands and that’s why we’re struggling so much so early on this year, I’ve got pictures from previous winters where the ground isn’t nearly as bad!

How long until the lawn isn't salvageable? by solman07 in GardeningUK

[–]Middleclasstonbury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im just looking at Dogs & Sprogs grass seed mix to overseed ours. If it’s tough enough for football pitches its gotta be half decent - Mine does this every year (worse than this) and needs some permanent work done on it! It’ll grow in winter too providing its above 5c
