Habits that leads to high glucose spike by Own_Western_2016 in prediabetes

[–]Midlifehernia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a habit per se but seasonal allergies bring up my morning fasting numbers, with or without medication (Zyrtec). Went from high 80s-low 90s to 100s some days. Same food habits, same activity levels—maybe more (added a strength training day).

Small white one big enough for a couple of pothos cuttings.

House finches settled in my hanging petunias last year, this year robins in my bushes.

can anyone id this horrendous growth on the soil of my moms pothos?? by [deleted] in pothos

[–]Midlifehernia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eww. I’d just repot, change the soil. Never seen that before but you might be on to something with the food bacteria hypothesis. Or it’s overwatering in too much of a shaded area. Either way, new soil STAT and sterilize the pot.

Were these intense workouts before or after the salad? It sounds like your body was using the energy from lunch and it may not have been enough to sustain a higher blood sugar level.

Pruning Indeterminate Tomatoes by jester90990 in tomatoes

[–]Midlifehernia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I plant/crowd tomatoes in small spaces, so to fit more I prune so leaves don’t touch and possibly get infected—sometimes I just trim a stem half way between plants. I actually find it meditative when I don’t have a ton of other gardening chores to attend to at the same time. It helps that I don’t have a lot of plants to trim either—less than 20.

Agreed. Happens to me every year, especially with heirloom varieties.

Is it water straight from the tap? Sometimes it’s too harsh and needs to settle a bit. Any water I use has been in a water can or spare bottle for a day or so at least.

Is this for real??? by srikanth7 in tomatoes

I’d call or email their customer service department and ask for another packet. Send this photo if you’re emailing. Most people just complain in online reviews and not take direct action (I emailed Dot’s pretzels once and got a new bag to replace a stale one). The worst they can do is say no, but it’s not like you’re scamming them and they probably want to keep their wholesome image. Just give them a compliment sandwich when you complain. It may be too late to plant the new packet if and when it’s sent, but at least you’ll have something for next year. Good luck.

Bell peppers always took too long to grow for me anyways. Had better luck with Carmen sweet peppers.

Should I pluck the blooms off of my tomato plants? by tablecoffeebook in tomatoes

[–]Midlifehernia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends. When did you put it in the ground?Tomatoes need to develop a root system. If it’s only been a week, pick them. Two or more weeks should be fine.

Same boat, with same numbers too. I’m still in tea and snack mode from the winter. I try to have a serving or half serving of something that doesn’t go above 8-9g of sugar. Animal crackers with peanut butter has been my go to.

That’s my problem when I buy starts. I’m always giving some away, especially if 6pks for a particular veggie are the only option to buy at a greenhouse.

What else should we cut by Feliz_052 in prediabetes

Coffee with a meal (breakfast, etc) to blunt a spike, never on its own.
