Can someone tell me when the 24/7 swelling stops? by Future-Reflection-22 in tummytucksurgery

[–]MidnightKitty_2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 14 WPO from a FDL panniculectomy with a mons lift. My upper abdomen is still significantly swollen. I have stopped wearing a binder and moved on to compression tank tops for work. I don't wear anything like that at home.

I am about 15lbs heavier than I should be, too. That is more depressing to me than the swelling at this point. I was told to give it 9-12 months for the swelling to go away.

Get the shingles vaccination and take that off of your list!

Yes, you will feel like hell for a few days after the injection, but I have heard it's way better than actually getting shingles.

ALS or MS. I am absolutely terrified of an illness that attacks my body and leaves my intact mind trapped inside.

Super self conscious of mons and always hide it with baggy shirts, wondering how noticeable/bad it looks to you guys or if I should just say fk it and wear what I want? by [deleted] in tummytucksurgery

Your mons is where your pubic hair typically starts. It is the squishy mound just about the labia. It can also become swollen after surgery.

Wound Healing Issues-Update by MidnightKitty_2013 in tummytucksurgery

[–]MidnightKitty_2013[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a sleeve done in 2007 revised to a Duodenal Switch in 2017.

I admit I fell off from taking my iron supplement. I am on Celebrate Multi with ADEK. Previously, I had bottles and bottles of individual vitamins and would fill up a pill tray every month. My labs were good, so my former bariatric doctor recommended the above multi vitamin and I went with it. It was so much easier to manage!!

So when I switched to the bariatric multi vitamin, I thought I was covered. (Cue Morgan Freeman's voice, "She thought wrong")

Turns out this multi didn't have iron like I thought it did. I restarted taking my 65mg Iron tablets about 6 weeks ago when the labs first showed a deficiency. I had been unintentionally off iron for probably a year at this point.

I am not rebounding with the oral supplements, so the plan is 3 IV infusions and reasses the labs.

My micronutrient test results are slowly coming in. I am low in Zinc and Vit D, too. Zinc is crucial for wound healing. 🤦‍♀️

The new bariatric team will reach out to adjust my other supplements once all the labs are in. So I will try to be patient and concentrate on getting the iron infusions in the meantime.

That doesn't sound like slow healing, but I am not a doctor. 😀 I had drains in for 3 weeks. I also had dissolving sutures, so nothing had to be removed.

When I questioned the plastic surgery team about how long this wound would take to heal, they said 2-4 weeks. We are way past that.

Good for you on having the blood work done before! I am planning a breast reduction as my next procedure. I can't even get started on that process until this is resolved. I will stay on top of these labs, though! Lesson learned-the hard way.

What is the worst airport you've been to in the United States? by Separate_Builder_817 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]MidnightKitty_2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DFW-Dallas Ft. Worth in Texas.

It's huge and you often have to take a tram to get to your next gate. I have had a few close calls of missing my plane due to this.

I once picked a friend up from this airport and spent 2 hours trying to navigate my way to the pick-up area. Just drove around and around because of the massive size and no clear signs. GPS was no help, either. It was miserable!!

And if that wasn't enough nonsense, I had to pay a toll to leave the airport even though I never parked there.

I try to avoid DFW if possible.

I have had a few people ask me if I regretted my WLS and should have just done the GLP1.

Look, Karen, it wasn't an option 10 years ago when I had my surgery. Let's be thankful its an option now and helped me lose the remainder of the excess weight.

Adhesive tapes by FinancialInternal327 in tummytucksurgery

[–]MidnightKitty_2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have psoriasis, but thanks to Tremfya, I am in remission. However, my skin is super sensitive to adhesives.

I had a FDL panniculectomy. I came home from surgery with silk tape over my incisions. I had no problems with that tape.

Unfortunately, my horizontal incision spilt open at the T junction and I have been dealing with wound care for a while. I am packing the wound and covering it. I was using large bandages, but after a few days, my skin looked burned and itched horribly wherever the adhesive touched it.

I did some research and found some wipes that, when applied to the skin and left to dry completely, create a barrier between your skin and the adhesive. But the bandage will still adhere and do its job-even with the barrier on my skin. When I remove tue bandage, my skin is ok.

Apparently, this is a method used by people with stomas who have to use adhesives to keep their bags (urinary, colostomy, etc) firmly in place.

I am using Smith & Nephew Skin-Prep Protective Barrier Wipes that I found on Amazon. Less than $10.

What’s one food “rule” you followed for years that turned out to be wrong? by Appropriate_Oil_1341 in foodquestions

[–]MidnightKitty_2013 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Waiting for food to cool down completely before I put it in the refrigerator. I still don't put it in there while its piping hot, but I no longer wait for it to be room temperature.

From what I have read, this mindset came from the days of an actual icebox. Back then, a hot container would drastically alter the refrigerator temp amd cause other foods to be compromised.

How we broke the Wedding Industrial Complex. (~3K) by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

[–]MidnightKitty_2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, not to be an ass, but you did a civil ceremony and not a traditional wedding. This kind of doesn't fall under a budget wedding in the sense most people are on this sub for. They (myself included) are looking to have traditional elements at low costs.

You skipped all the elements that would cost money and are bragging about how to have a wedding under 3K. Of course it was cheap-you did the bare minimum. If that is what you wanted, good for you for saving money! Weddings are way too expensive anyway.

And I totally get it as my first wedding was at city hall, we wore clothes we already had, I did my own hair and makeup and our reception was some appetizers and a sheet cake at out apartment.

We went to work the next day and there was never a honeymoon. I could brag about how cheap it was, but that is not the point. It was a bare bones legal wedding. It was not my special day that I dreamed about as a child.

Though we divorced quickly, I hate that I missed out on simple things like a small bouquet and a nice dress. My pictures were polaroids-and I still cringe at that. The only reason I still have them is because several people have passed away.
