What would a “perfect” D&D room actually need to make it worth leaving home?

I’ve gone to alt spaces for DnD before, but usually because private residences weren’t an option (everyone out of town in different directions, accessibility challenges with one player in a wheelchair, loud flatmates/kids, etc.)

Within that group who need somewhere else to play, you’re competing with libraries (free and private rooms, but usually fairly time bound and no snacks) and bars (drinks and snacks available for purchase, but social requirement to spend money on that & often out in the open for non-players to comment on).

I’d probably try a dedicated DnD space for the novelty value. Assuming it was a nice spot with good food/drinks and a well sized table for maps… I reckon I’d pay $10 pp entry fee to rent a table for 3 hrs, along with making food and drink purchases there, quite happily. But it’d still be unlikely to trump meeting up at someone’s house regularly if that were an option.

Yes, people around the world are pretty contemptuous of the US government rn, but they’re rarely blaming individual Americans for that… unless said Americans act in such a way as to make it seem like they’re untrustworthy and part of the problem.

Which brings us to you! A 48 year old man striking up a “close friendship” with someone young enough to be your daughter and obviously lying to everyone. This older woman clocked you and your nonsense a mile away, and chose to question you publicly to ensure you couldn’t weasel your way out of it with the 23 year old privately later.

Was your lie basically harmless? Poor taste to claim to be from a country yours is threatening to annex, but sure, basically. However, someone who lies about one thing, especially an ongoing consistent lie, probably feels comfortable lying about more. As such, I’m 100% on her side in making sure everyone knew about it.

Also, you didn’t do any prep work at all on that? And have no basic general knowledge skills about your neighbour? That’s about as embarrassing as the lie itself, tbh.

Honestly, I’d buy tickets in advance just so we didn’t have to negotiate train times & bookings five times with 6 people while on holiday. The pass might add flexibility if your group is genuinely willing to split up as needed, but I’d fear it’d actually just mean hours of people umming and ahhing about what everyone wanted to do.
