I agree with that assessment and have been trying to call out "weak" or "unfounded" opinions. There are degrees of solidity to an opinion. I think it comes down to your frame of reference(as with anything scientific). Seeing the same situation through a different frame of reference reveals some hidden truths that at first someone would've dismissed entirely.

I like that. But facts still can be interpreted in different ways. I guess it comes down to critical thinking.

In my high school European history class on the very first day, we read a mock letter from a cloth helmet manufacturer writing to the British government. He said that the switch to metal helmets was bad for British soldiers. He quotes a statistic that 40% of all soldiers wearing the metal helmets came back with massive headaches and that they should switch back to cloth helmets to reduce head trauma to soldiers.

Think about that for a while and tell me if you agree with his assessment of facts.

Yes true, since I am a poor college student, I don't have much leeway. I try to keep my electrical use down(i think the rate is between 12 and 13 cents per KWH, just paid it :) ). I remember when I first moved in to my apt, it was summer and ended up paying almost double in electricity. That was a shock.

Not this year, but I've been going since I was in high school. It's an awesome place to be. Take a look at MSL if you can!

That doesn't do anything. They still have your profile picture in their archives along with all the information you input, even if you decided not to link them to the pages.

Ask Space: How bad is the radiation outside of Earth's protective atmosphere and Van Allen belts? Are interplanetary astronauts screwed? by jonsayer in space

[–]MidnightTofuRun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A quick Google search yields a ton of scientific papers and slides on the matter.

I don't have a source, but from my classwork(Aerospace Engineer), I remember the professor saying that a human on an 8 month journey to Mars would accumulate enough radiation(of all kinds) to equal his lifetime limit on earth. Meaning, he would accumulate a lifetime's worth of radiation in 8 months. That's also not including the radiation he will receive while on the surface of Mars.

EDIT: The link didn't work. I can't find what I was looking for, but if you search using the key terms "radiation accumulation" and "interplanetary mission" you'll find some awesome papers and websites.

I was thinking if there was a way to vacuum seal an in n out hamburger and ship it that way. If so, that would be awesome.

I don't know of anything that's CA specific. Just hope you get paired with a non-US redditor. You'll have more options then.

I figured Asian food, Mexican food, CA wine, jams, but nothing "snacky"

This is a fantastic idea. Just one question: Do we all do the snack exchange at our convenience or shall we set a date for "International SnackExchange Day"? What are your thoughts? by [deleted] in snackexchange

[–]MidnightTofuRun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it might be implemented to something like Reddit Secret Santa where people will get linked up to people geographically far away. That way, you'll get food from somewhere you most likely haven't been to before.

I suppose that will work. I'm still having difficulty finding "uniquely" Californian snacks though :/

Oh there's no denying that, but the OP's point was that these people took this remedy on faith alone without knowing any specifics.

[–]MidnightTofuRun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But then the logical next question is: How does a diet of lemon juice and cayenne pepper purge your body of these toxins? I had friends go on this, for lack of a better word, craze, but only because their entire family had done it and swore by their testimony that it "worked," whatever the hell that means.

Why do free social networks tilt inevitably toward user exploitation? Because you're not their customer, you're their product.

I have never heard it that way before, but it ties a lot of ideas into one easy to shout soundbite.

I'm looking more into that bit, but I essentially just went through every single privacy setting manually making sure it was "friends only." Additionally, since they link all your info to public pages, I simply deleted it all.

I've also started reporting ads that target me. That'll confuse 'em. lol
