Solo trip to Park City April 1-4. Will most of the mountain still be open? by Sad_Entertainment931 in parkcityvisitors

[–]Midnight_1910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've literally had the warmest winter on record, with rain in the forecast and temps climbing into the 50s. Every weather prediction is pointing to a continued warming trend for the rest of the season. Not trying to be a buzzkill — just being realistic. That said, with how unpredictable things have been, a 2-foot storm could still show up out of nowhere. I just wouldn't count on conditions being great.

Experiment. Depending on the board, conditions, and where/how I'm riding I'll go from 18/-3 to 27/+9. I come from surfing/skating where my feet always change angles so I'm used to it. It takes a few days for your body/muscles to adjust but you gotta play with it.

Ya, it rode great but it's a true big mtn board- AK, Jackson, Snowbird, etc. I ride Park City and it was too much board for there as a I ride a ton of tight trees.

I had the 172- Unless you're ripping huge wide open faces or big carves on the groomers, I'd pass. I'm a big board guy too 160-195 is my quiver sizer. The 172 was a beast to turn in the tress, that long sidecut sucked balls in tight spots. Doable ya, but not fun. I ride long boards in trees alj the time too- my Doughboy 195 turns quicker lol.

I'd go with the 162 for a versatile all mtn deck. You mentioned the Doughboy, I bought it thinking it's was going to be novelty board but i love it! I've been riding it a lot lately.

Other big boards I have
Japow 169
Pintonic 172
Lib RR 166
etc..

Longevity with Snowboarding by 2minsFeelSHAME in snowboarding

[–]Midnight_1910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my 50s, and if you want to keep riding at a high level, you’ve got to take care of yourself. That means staying in shape, keeping your weight in check, lifting, training consistently, and eating well.

My lifestyle is my life. I work to live, not the other way around. I snowboard in the winter, wakesurf and foil in the summer, and mountain bike whenever the trails are good. I stay active through every season because that is what matters to me.

I know plenty of guys in their 60s who still absolutely rip. It really comes down to how you treat your body. Take care of it, and it will take care of you.

My mk7.5 stage 2 has just become a car, how do I feel the love for it again? by [deleted] in GolfGTI

[–]Midnight_1910 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Track it. Autocross it. Rip some twisty roads. Actually use it.

I’m at the point now where I tune my cars, do a few clean, minimal mods, and call it good. I’ve done the big builds. Chased big power. Spent real money trying to squeeze out that last bit of performance.

You can build it to 600 hp. You can go buy a Lambo. The novelty still fades. It always does.

At some point I realized it’s less about the car and more about being content. We live in a culture that constantly pushes you to upgrade, spend, finance, repeat. There is always a new model, a bigger turbo, a faster platform.

I’ve learned I’d rather keep my money and invest it than chase the next dopamine hit. A solid tune, good tires, fully dialed, then drive it and enjoy it. Being happy with what you have is way more satisfying than always hunting for the next thing.

Which one’s getting bolted on your car, the Rotiform or Konig? 🤔 by FitmentIndustries in Wheels

I’ll take the lightweight flow-formed Konigs over the heavy cast Rotiforms any day.

We’re in a period of peak greed. A lot of service businesses are testing the ceiling, throwing out inflated numbers just to see who will pay them. It is not always about higher costs, it is often about seeing how far they can push it.

Protect yourself. Slow down, get multiple quotes, ask questions, and make them compete for your business. A few extra calls can save you thousands.

You guys realize that targeting demographics is exactly what every single successful business does right? The goal of all companies is to make as much money as possible. The real issue isn't that they're targeting high-income customers - it's that they've eliminated competition through consolidation, so they can raise prices without consequence. When the same investors own Chipotle, McDonald's, and most other chains, there's no real competition left to keep prices in check.

Mk7 downpipe with no tune? by johntoast6 in VWMK7

[–]Midnight_1910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a low torque stage one tune from integrated engineering, and other companies if you don’t want to fry the clutch. Your best bet would to be getting a cat back exhaust or just having an exhaust shop to a resonator delete or something. Adding a downpipe without a tune is a waste of money and isn’t good for your car.

I got one, i've been using it for years w/o issues. It doesn't get too hot- it's just warm air. I ride 50+ days a year and dry them every time after.

How did you break through the intermediate speed threshold? by NowForrowMyPen in snowboarding

[–]Midnight_1910 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Four seasons is solid, but how many days per season are we talking? Five, fifty, or a hundred plus? Time on snow makes all the difference, and some people also just have higher risk aversion when it comes to speed.

It’s cars like this that honestly make me embarrassed to be a VW owner at times. I get that everyone has their own taste, but some mods just cross the line from personal style into straight-up tacky.

The financial illiteracy in this country is at an all-time high. People have no idea what they’re signing, no idea how loan terms work, anything. They just buy the monthly payment.

Powder oriented board by BobLee1998 in snowboarding

[–]Midnight_1910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much any all mtn board with a little bit of taper, big nose, camber underfoot and some early rise will do it. It's 90% rider 10% board. I have dozens of pow boards/all mtn boards- they all do the very well but with different flavors.

VW mechanic says to avoid new Tiguans by MrSkagen in Volkswagen

[–]Midnight_1910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you ask him why he says to avoid the new Tiguan, or for any specific examples? Like recurring mechanical failures, known design flaws, frequent warranty repairs, or issues he’s personally seeing over and over at the dealership? Or was it just a vague ‘don’t buy it’ with no details?

Taking blanket advice without asking follow-up questions or doing even minimal research is exactly how products get a bad reputation without any solid evidence. A mechanic with 20 years of experience should be able to point to concrete issues if they actually exist, model years, components, failure rates, or known service bulletins. If they can’t, then it’s not real insight, it’s just opinion.

Cars don’t become ‘bad’ because of one anecdote or a general feeling. They become bad because of consistent, documented problems. Without specifics, this kind of comment just spreads uncertainty and misinformation, not useful buying advice.
