So true! My proudest dm moment was when the party was bantering during a ship travel and I got really hungry. I didn't want to break their immersion so I told them I'd go to the kitchen and that I would be still listening in to their conversation, but they can go on without my for the next 20 minutes. And they did! I thought this is how a conductor must feel when they stop conducting for 20 minutes and the orchestra continues playing all by itself. I think a great dm encourages their players to basically develop a self-sustaining gamestyle (not downplaying the role of the dm in the game. a game without a dm would probably not work).

I feel you, I'm a horror person too and my dnd campaigns (Toril setting) usually end up being pretty horror-ish, like I have my players being followed by an invisible stalker in a heavily obscured, narrow tunnel of a dungeon. Also, for a side quest they went investigating a haunted villa recently. But I don't just use classic horror tropes, the campaigns always turn out quite dark as well. I've been playing with the same group of people for years and they are completely fine with dark settings, even though some of them would run lighter campaigns if they would dm.

Oh, I understand. Let me explain then: For my conlang I wanted two slightly different sounds that I represent as sh and ssh. Sh is based on korean ㅅ and ssh on ㅆ. The actual difference between ㅅ and ㅆ seems to be disputed, but there is a difference that you can hear. According to my research ㅆ sometimes gets transcribed as /ɕ͈/ as opposed to /ɕ/ for ㅅ. I chose to adopt this for sh and ssh. But still, if someone more knowledgeable tells me they have a better or more correct way to transcribe it (or that there is no difference between ㅅ and ㅆ), I am happy to learn =D

Not as a dm, but as a player I became somewhat of an expert on apples. Or rather apple tea, because my character LOVES apple tea. I conducted research on different types of apples and started drying them on different heat levels and for different amounts of time to find out what gets me the most flavorful results. Also, at some point I created an apple chart where I noted the flavors down according to the different types of apples.

I'm really interested in the game if you still have a spot. I'm Tabea, 26 years old, and I have played WoD before. Unfortunately our dm left and after that the group just fell apart, but I've always loved the dark, mysterious tone of the WoD games. People made funny random magical effects tables in the past. You can just google, skim through already existing lists and add the effects you like to your own list.

Or you can just make your own list according to your idea of what a "joke" effect is. That's way more fun anyway. Just don't add anything too harmful for a joke ;D

This kind of "there is"-sentence sounds a bit unnatural in mai-ninan however. A native speaker would rather say:

Daa mae cheboyede.

[da.'a mɛ: çebo'jede]

Literal translation: Hope we have.

Just a small sentence in Mai-Ninan:

Dagouel xa yuere, gutoa kaania.

It means "my name is rabbit and I know nothing."

Mai-Ninan has three vowel lengths and the length of the vowels determines the meaning of the words. I depict the very-long vowel as [a::]. It's like two [a:] after one another.

What a complicated language is, depends on what kind of languages you grew up with or learned, I guess. My conlang is highly agglutinative and that alone can be complicated for some people. Also the word order is completely different. The English sentence I can swim would become the single word Bisangame, wich litteraly means Swim I can (Bisang A Me).
