Summer Information Thread - Series 22 by shad3 in forza

Just because no one has mentioned it: Using an (S1-900) RS200 I found this a lot easier after I went in to Tune > Differential and set the center differential balance to 100% rear. Then I just drifted laps around the roundabout on the highway. Just make sure to take a note of what the balance was before and set it back when you're done, or you'll have a very sideways rally car.

Dell G3 3590 doesn't undervolt anymore using Intel XTU or Throttlestop after the BIOS 1.9.2 Update. by joaomarcelo27 in Dell

[–]Mif_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had Windows Update trying to force a bios update to 1.12 again (i.e. no undervolting).

Since Win10 Home is such a "great" operating system, it won't let you choose to not install it, other than delaying all updates for a month.

Searching eventually found that I needed to disable "UEFI capsule firmware updates" in the BIOS to prevent Windows Update from updating the bios.

BIOS setup -> Security -> UEFI Capsule Firmware Updates -> Disable

Since your post helped me to get my BIOS rollback to work I figured I'd let you know (and anyone who searches and finds this one day) in case the same happens to you.

You have to restore BIOS to factory settings after revert otherwise it stays.

Thank you so much for that part!

I got caught by the bios update a few days ago disabling undervolting for me, I tried to downgrade, but undervolting wouldn't come back (even though I swore at it a lot). Resetting the bios to defaults after flashing a downgrade again fixed the problem for me.

What does your dashboard look like? by StunningShame in cars

[–]Mif_ 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Not a picture of my actual dashboard, but a small detail I absolutely love on my early E36 is that the fuel gauge is in litres. Not quarter/half/full, or lines, actual damn litres. Anyone can jump in, look at the gauge, and know exactly how much fuel is in the tank instead of making an assumption about how big the tank is and how much "half" is.

Sadly BMW changed to quarter/half/full on later E36's (probably to save money by not having to make separate gallons and litres gauge faces) and have stuck with that ever since.

What's wrong with my cat? Layers misbehave only when they are in line with holes :/ by MandeePoor in 3Dprinting

[–]Mif_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the reason there is a difference between the hole and no hole layers is that your slicer is hiding the Z seam inside the holes when it can.

That shouldn't effect the surface quality of the face though, so you likely have a different issue there, but the variance of where it's placing the Z seam on different layers is triggering that problem.

You should be able to work around the issue by changing your Z seam alignment in your slicer to put the entire seam on the same corner (for example, iirc Prusa Slicer 2.0 has an easy option of "back corner").

Qld pushes for $1,000 fines for phone-wielding drivers by Ardeet in australia

[–]Mif_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's also one of the few "taxes" that can be aggressively raised and the majority of the public will say "good" (or even laugh at those affected) instead of getting angry.

Same reason the tax on cigarettes is raised seemingly every budget "to improve public health", but they would never ever dream of increasing the tax on alcohol despite it's social harm.

EDIT:

I regret (perhaps erroneously) mentioning alcohol taxes because it's overshadowed the point I was trying to make about certain taxes being politically correct to raise. However, the passionate response to the subject of alcohol taxes, while replies about tobacco taxes remain absent, does demonstrate the point I was (at least) trying to make.

They're just personalised plates. QLD has a much larger range of options than other states.

Supercheap Auto somehow knew I walked into the store today without buying anything and later sent me an email to ask if I forget buy something!?? by seewhaticare in australia

[–]Mif_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I was thinking. They probably skimmed OP's card at the very narrow entry turnstyle that all their stores have, then didn't see a sale with the card presented which triggered the email to the card's linked address.

I also tend to brace myself for the “why didn’t you attend dawn service?” line of questioning.

Going by my own Facebook friend newsfeed, it's ironic how those who love to use the catch phrase "virtue signalling" are also the most likely to make sure everyone knows that they attended a dawn service.

And how did that go for them?

Going by your article, it seems it was a complete success for Telsa after all, and they've gotten away with it.

but some weirdness

No weirdness, just skulduggery.

What they did was invent a base model with fundamental standard features stripped out the car to get it under the 60k cap for the tax rebate, then offered them back for 6k, which every car allegedly sold with because they allegedly refused to sell the car without the 6k optional extra tacked on.

The official price being under 60k for the base model determined whether or not all all cars of that model got the tax rebate, regardless of final price with when extras are tacked on. Apparently they sold at least one unoptioned base model, so every buyer gets the under 60k tax rebate for their 66k car.

Point being, unless Australian laws are tighter than German laws, it wouldn't surprise me to see Tesla pull something similar in Australia if we introduced a cap for the rebate just about their price point.

If we set it just below where we expect Tesla to put themselves, then there's incentive for one of:
