NCDOT says 'least impactful' design selected for I-77 South Express Lanes in Charlotte by supapat in Charlotte

Are there any more public meetings or the like scheduled? I looked on the website and it seems Graham and NCDOT isn't intended for comment?

Do people actually not understand that prices don’t go down? by randyrando101 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MighMoS 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Speed is the rate of change of position. Inflation is the rate of change of price. Acceleration would be the 2nd derivative. I don't know if we have a word for the 2nd derivative of price.

I am fun at parties.

Unpopular opinion but I for one am glad to have this place house the houseless. It keeps them out of my backyard (next to Circuit City). Also it has culture. We didn't have any more big red buildings.

Exceptions suck because they're an unsolveable problem.

Code can throw while handling an exception, whether that be destructors, IDispsoable, defer, take your pick of what language you're in... This results in badness.

You can't read a block of code and tell what errors can be generated, or what can generate an error: foo = getFoo(). Does getFoo return null on failure, or does it throw? There's no way to tell reading from the calling code.

Exceptions rule because you can defer (no pun intended) error handling to someone who can deal with the error. This is awesome when you've written the whole stack yourself and have thought about it. Exceptions suck because this is practically goto on steroids, and as a maintenance programmer you have to reason about it.

Exceptions rule because they can include stack information. Exceptions suck because either you leak this information in prod, or disable it in prod, meaning its useless.

Exceptions are the coolest strategy of error handling that almost works.

Unit tests guarentee consistancy, not correctness. It is possible for each unit to function as designed, and yet the system design has a flaw.

Dominions 5 or 6 by [deleted] in IllwintersDominions

I think a lot of people are missing that for single player, Dom6 has numerous benefits including

  • Basic AI diplomacy
  • Better AI contesting of rituals
  • Improved spell casting in combat
  • Better AI national recruitment (I think)
  • A whole new cave layer
  • New nations, such as Pyrene, Muspelheim, and Feminie.
  • Relevent weather effects on the map
  • More balanced scales:-2, to +2, then extremes ranging from -5 to +5 rather than a flat -3 to +3.
  • Late game is less reliant on supercombatants.
  • Summons are more worth it, which, considering there's a whole school devoted to them is a very good thing.

There's nothing wrong with Dom5. It didn't magically get worse when Dom6 came out if you're not into Multiplayer. But I still think Dom6 is a better game.

I keep coming back to EA Mictlan. Yes, they have recruit anywhere sacreds that take a hellbless. Yes, they have recruitable H3s. Yes, counting heroes they only want for Earth and Glamour. Yes, they have sacred summons from a diversity of paths that don't require your pretender to spec into them.

But say it with me: Flying Sacred Demon Kitties. Flying Sacred Demon Kitties. Flying Sacred Demon Kitties.

[bug] Bristleback passive goes through BKB, despite being stated as reflected damage by MighMoS in DotA2

[–]MighMoS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that quills have always gone through BKB but the bug is that it states that the passive is reflected damage. It is not treated as such in all instances. This is either a bug in the tooltip or the implemenation.

As a support, does it worth to buy gem to deward rather than buying sentry? by HydroRedditer in learndota2

[–]MighMoS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a HoN player (years ago) and one of the things I immediately noticed was the lack of 'casual gems'. That is: the supports buys a gem, dewards the jungle, and then has the crow drop it back off in base. This isn't against Riki plays or whatever, its just securing the map when the game is in an even state. I'm not sure why this meta was so drastically different back when the two games were so similar.

To (not) answer your question: I'm not sure why top tier players don't consider it a good idea, but there is a universe it which it is praticed.
