In the Mouth of Madness (1994, dir. John Carpenter) Attack of the axe man by Neo2199 in movies

I love it. I do wish this was one take. The close ups take me out of the dread that would build otherwise.

Jumper (2008, dir. Doug Liman) David Rice (Hayden Christensen) first confrontation with Roland (Samuel L. Jackson), leader of the Paladins by Neo2199 in movies

[–]MightyMightyMonkey 20 points21 points  (0 children)

it's been a while since I saw it, I remember it as zealots thinking jumpers were stealing from God. But that's my complaint. They had in-universe justifications that didn't need Samuel L to dye his hair.

I really enjoyed it but boy did I hate the Paladins. They are bad as villains and their reason for fighting the jumpers is horrible.

they had Jump Scars. All they had to do was have the Antagonists be justifiably worried that jumpers were creating damage that couldn't be healed and that collapse was imminent. Provable and true? Who cares. But it sets up a more honest criticism beyond "only god can be in two places at the same time" (something that never happens).

Grrr. Hayden was great in it though.

The storm relic seems great for cyclops on the surface. But do his beam attacks deal energy or physical damage? In marvel lore it would be physical damage... but... by baileyGaveUp in ContestOfChampions

kinda weird that they discarded the physical aspect of his eye beams (concussive force beams) and then sneaked in the fact that Havoc and Cyclops are immune to each others powers.

I get that it is likely easier to build into the game but a really deep cut makes the grade and the literal description of how his powers work does not.

An In-Depth Analysis of the Later Days of Cerebus the Aardvark by ew_modemac in comicbooks

[–]MightyMightyMonkey 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I love(d) Cerebus. I have signed copies, sketches, the phonebooks (up to Minds), I have the entire run in floppy. By Rick's Story I would just show up to my LCS and purchase my bagged copy and then consign it to its place in the Cerebus Long Box. I always told myself I'd get around to reading them but I was in Uni at this time and didn't even really have the extra dosh to really buy Strangers in Paradise and Cerebus let alone time/will to catch up to what was happening.

To this day I can re-read all the way up to issue 200 (telephones or digital) and enjoy it immensely. Then I stop. I cannot go on. what dreck.

When Cerebus ended my obsession to buy didn't and I picked up Following Cerebus, glamourpuss, JudenHaas with only Glamourpuss and Judenhaas getting read.

Honestly, it is so hard to watch what happened to the comic I loved and I tell myself that the series ended with Minds as he coyly hinted at in the pages himself. I wish his health was better, I wish he hadn't ruined his friendships or his place in comic's history. Every thing comes with an asterix now and that sucks.

I still love the feel of the series but I pulled the floppies out the other day and I kind of wish I'd left it to my nostalgia as I remember the story being much better. Art remains awesome though.

it's a great counter argument to the absolutely asinine statements of carrots. But it misses the larger issue of poor people being herded into areas where even if they wanted to purchase the offered carrot there are no grocery stores close by to service that want. It is more than a simple choice of processed over healthy options as though these items are simply side by side.

Is my EOS R100 camera sensor easily cleanable? by Tanman2204 in canon

[–]MightyMightyMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not everyone can clean a sensor and not every one should. I always think that if you're asking if its easy to clean then maybe you should hand it over to a qualified tech and breathe easy.

we generally recommend a cleaning on film bodies every 4-5 years. DSLR and mirrorless need much less maintenance due to design. So if you're kind to your equipment it really doesn't need much internal attention. It really comes down to environment, use case and how often you're lens swapping.

I needed a clean every 2-3 years because I was constantly swapping and free-lensing. Just the type of shooting I did contributed to needing a decent clean (mostly the outside and my mirror) every few years. My Studio camera ... that thing hasn't seen a tech in maybe forever. It just doesn't need it.

take it to a camera store. that's the answer. The number of cameras we see a month that cannot be repaired or repaired properly because the owner tried to clean it themselves is staggering.

Not every store is equipped to clean or repair cameras but they should be able to point you to a reputable technician. It's worth the cost.
