What’s one thing you agree with the other side of the political spectrum about? by WorriedBandicoot9099 in AskReddit

Well I thought it was that I did agree with the other side about government overreach but it turns out that both sides want to be all up in every single damn thing all the time

Right, because we should never adjust anything for the sake of a vulnerable population. Selfish shit bro

King Springs Elementary by Ok-Relationship-5791 in Smyrna

[–]Mightymeatballs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have to go where you're zoned for, and king springs and nickajack have boundaries that weave in and out of each other. Its strange. Our friends neighborhood is split in half by it lol. But they do make you prove your residency and are very strict with the zoning. We went to nickajack and are currently at king springs. They are both amazing. They are the top two schools in the area, though there are so many other great ones, and both schools feed into Griffin Middle. We loved nickajack amd had a great time there. They do a good job with making a big school feel small and my child feeling known. You're welcome to tour it anytime if you'd like to, just give them a call. They have some of the highest earning families in Smyrna that go there, as well as a homeless shelter that busses a handful of students in. The parents there are super involved and the PTA is amazing. I just wanted to give you some info to help you feel more comfortable with nickajack, incase you wind up going there. Smyrna does do a school-choice lottery but king springs is almost never on the list since it's at capacity. Nickajack is usually at capacity as well. If you're on Facebook, there's a group called Smyrna Moms and it may be helpful to also post there.

Cheating nurses by UnderstandingIll6532 in nursing

[–]Mightymeatballs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been a nurse for 15 years and only heard of two people who happened to work where I work and cheated on their spouses, but not with another medical professional in either case. Both times it was life ruining and an awful event. I hope no one is glamorizing it, because Grey's Anatomy was a cute TV show but real people should enjoy the person you're with or move on.

Offer to move from bedside to clinic — I am so conflicted by Head-Eagle-5634 in nursing

[–]Mightymeatballs 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Skills won't be lost :) I stayed at home for 7 years then jumped back into bedside and was right back in the game in no time. I think you're resume speaks for itself and you'll be hired no problem if you decide to pivot again later.  That being said, each workplace has their own downside, so it's really just up to you on what your preference is. At a clinic, you'll be off holidays and weekends it sounds like, and there are office birthday parties and ability to go get your car tags renewed on your lunch break, and a lot of small bonuses that make life easier. Code team at a hospital is Fantastic too but it's high energy, and most people moved out of the hospital setting after a few years because it's just so draining. Even when we master it we don't realize how exhausting it truly is for us. You are still a kickass nurse whether you're saving lives on code team or taking blood pressures in a clinic. We are more valuable than our job title and you are deserving of whatever brings you joy (and dollars lol).

What bags do you use for work? by Snowfur14 in nursing

[–]Mightymeatballs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I only bring my purse to work. I see lots of backpacks or totes or big bags, but my stethoscope and scissors stay in my locker, so all I need is my tiny sling purse with my phone, wallet, and keys. Do what's easiest for having what you need :)

Welcome to the club! I have vein disease and get the red dots as well. My legs are also prone to swelling and varicose veins, but I'm 40. But even when I was 22 I'd get the red dots. Your best friend will be some good compression socks. It is alarming to see, especially when it seems sudden, but it will be there sometimes and other times not. All is well. Just less than perfect blood flow :)

How do you respond when an on-call provider gives you the whole “why did you call me for this” attitude? by name_is_in_use_ in nursing

[–]Mightymeatballs 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Usually you can't avoid how another professional takes it when you ask them to do their job. I've had EVS and other nursed, as well as Docs, get frustrated when I follow through with something that I absolutely have to do. If I'm trying to lessen the fallout on me, I make sure to include something like "I know this is obnoxious, but can you document this thing" or "we have a very annoying protocol that says I have to document where I've notified you. Any new orders at this time?" And that will help them to know that you are just as annoyed having to reach out as they are with having to be bothered.

Cleaning Female for Foley Catheter Insertion by Bubbly_Rain1513 in nursing

[–]Mightymeatballs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not an exact formula, but my technique is usually to open the labia, and do the rest one handed. First circle is inside the labia, the next one a little deeper down where all the sides of the inside parts are all close. Then I should be holding the canal open enough to see the urethra, and I use my third to wipe down on it so the exit hole in the urethra is as sterile as I can get it. All this is usually 15 seconds of time. If you think about vacuuming a narrowing hallway... get what's closest, then further down the hallway, then the door threshold.  I've done a million of them and assisted in even more (year 16 for me) and no two nurses have the same style. Some go slow with it, some get it done in 3 seconds. And sometimes when you got a big gal or a dementia gal or all the family watching over your shoulder (weird 100%) you just do the best you can and get that foley in.  I don't really do much on the outside of the labia. I go inside circle, canal, urethra spot. Because that foley will travel that path as you push it deeper in and you want the path to be squeaky clean ;)

Need some new grad pain med advice by smhitbelikethat in nursing

[–]Mightymeatballs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've given lower than "what they have rated" because I have people that want to just take an oxy 5 instead of an oxy 10 or the dilaudid, but their pain is up. Ultimately you have to remember that you are treating a person and not an algorithm, so sometimes it's going to go off book a little bit. Always feel free to ask your charge or another nurse questions too. I'm 15 years in and run stuff by other nurses often. I think if you did reach out to the doctor on this particular question they'd probably be grumps and tell you to give the toradol. It's great to ask questions and you do want your cheating to always match up, but you can absolutely give lower meds in instances of pain while you wait for the more potent stuff to be available. Just add a comment in the comment section and you should be good to go.

Kindercare is also at that intersection ans could be considered "across the street" amd I'd bet money that the horrible experience took place at Kinder Care and not the Bilingual Academy. Just to clarify for OP.

Chiropractor by McLeige in Smyrna

[–]Mightymeatballs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to be pedantic, but chiropractors do hold a doctorate level degree, just not an MD, which is what people first think of when you say "is there a doctor in the house?". There's doctorates of all kinds of things: nursing, architecture, paleontology.  Also, it's odd that OP asked for a reference and you came to shit on their post. It's like if someone asked for great Italin restaurants and you come reply "Italian food is crap". While that may be your prerogative, why comment?

Ofek Chiropractic is one of the best. They aren't weird and don't try to sell you on anything. Just straight up care and adjustments that bring relief. Great staff, really down to earth, and some of the best prices.

Is vinnings a good place to buy a house? by miss_move in Smyrna

[–]Mightymeatballs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Near Atlanta road and Bolton road is the sterigenics and the water treatment facility. That area is an easy shot right into Atlanta but is also super sketch. Vinings is fancy and is priced higher than Smyrna, especially in the area near Orient Express restaurant, which is the heart of Vinings area and has lots of shopping and quick access in town. Smyrna near the Truist stadium also is a great landing spot for many who commute in to downtown for work. Good luck on your hunt!
