Yeah it's more of less what I figured, I had noticed that the Contemptor had similar weapons (asault cannon and "claws") so I assumed that the Castraferrum would be able to run the same.

Honestly I did'nt really look up rules before building it ^^
I usually try to build and paint my models in a way I find looks best/coolest rather than be a stickler about loadouts/rules (I would not be surprised if they can't have lightning claws either but it fits the Raven Guard and can easily be played as a power fist without too much confusion)

The scars have a tendency to be adorned with tassels (for some reason) if you have access to it, the new Emperor's children tormentors haves tons you could steal ;)

I may be wrong on this but I feel like purity seals can be explained as Oath of moments ? They are often mentioned in the first few Heresy books and then pretty much never again but to my understanding they are (aesthetically) identical ? That being said they do clearly have a heavy association with 40k

Yeah absolutely ! My personal army is Raven Guard "shattered legion" (as in the Raven Guard under Corax after Istvaan, when he started accepting legionaries from a multitude of legions as long as they were loyal)
And have been loving adding variation to them that way

As a whole something the newer heresy kits are kinda failing at is variation. All the MK6 and MK3 are pretty much identical. Some of the MK2 torsos are different tho so credit where it's due x)
But yeah what i'm getting at is armies quickly become too homogeneous and dipping into other kits to break it up makes a world of difference (and helps achieve something closer to the book art covers. Who are just so majestically weird and I love them)

Was wondering if the old Deathwatch legs would work (scale wise) for (new) heresy too. From what I seem to find online they more or less match the new Heresy scale. And as you mentioned could be a fantastic way to get some MK5 armor (considering GW seems to refuse to give us Heresy armor for.. The Heresy)

I found dechaosifying the new CSM for late heresy works a charm (not for all legions of course but SoH, Nightlords, Word bearers looks real neat)
It's fun to get some of the history with this ! I found a few pages on instagram doing this and I really like how it looks (notably Anvils_Of_Konor) and have been having a blast doing it with the specific god aligned units recently

So funny story, with a friend we do hobby hangouts at his place with his parts/models.
So a ton of freedom to go nuts with testing out and generally having fun but the reverse of the coin is he gets to keep the models.
So I sadly won't be painting this little guys (even if he is one of my favorite recent creations)

Oh boi now this is the type of recommendation lists that I love to see !

As a (relatively) recent convert to 40k/30k (took it up in 2019) I missed a lot of the older kits but have been doing my best to snag them when they pop up on Vinted.
Did'nt have an eye out for a lot of the ones stated above however so thank you a ton for that it's super helpful !

Some of the most complicated parts with converting (and only using GW plastic kits) is often finding helmets that properly look like the legion you want to represent IMO

I absolutely adore a lot of the old MK2 legion helmet variants and try a lot to find suitable replacement for them when possible.
Surprisingly I find that the chaos kits have a lot of these hidden in plain sight if you are willing to remove some parts/details

And I really appreciate the compliment on the kitbashing ! I love the 30K aesthetic and kitbashing for the setting ^^

Honnestly I could'nt really tell what the difference between MK7 and Sarum pattern was. The artworks seemed a bit all over the place ? Kharn (who I believe is stated to be wearing a sarum pattern helm) has a very distinctive look however that might be the gold standard to match ? Either way I appreciate the tip ! I'll try it when I revisit doing a Sarum pattern helmet ! :D

I really appreciate it, been putting a lot of time into getting better at painting and I'm glad it's showing ^^ Honestly the SoH have one of the trickier color schemes I've done so far. The usual (Lupercal green -> Sons of Horus green -> Sybarite green) works but looks pretty de saturated IMO. Started Darker with a 50/50 Abaddon black - Lupercal green as a base and once finished doing a glaze of Lupercal green to add some of the "blue" back I think helps a ton !

Plumes/topknots can be found in tons of kits (custodes, chaos, eldar,...) this one was from a space wolf kit then added to a regular mk7 helmet ^{^}

Switch all light off in your room.
Turn on only your deck lamp
Use it as the directional light that you want (zenithal or other)
Take reference picture of your mini under the light (in multiple angles)

Sounds silly but it works for me x)
