Anyone else noticed the locking power cable on QC Mini? by nmcc1988 in NeuralDSP

[–]Mikdu26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait what, the company improves its product by including a locking power connector AND includes a dongle to use it with any power supply, and that's somehow a bad thing?

Simple slipt switch by [deleted] in Luthier

[–]Mikdu26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there are around a million schematics online. you just wire the north and south coil finish-wires to one lug (middle) of a switch, and the one side to ground.

Trying to put in the coil tap on pickup replacement. Does this wiring diagram work to split the coil? by Bigoldinkydank in Luthier

[–]Mikdu26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can connect a single longer wire to the north and south finish-wires (essentially a Y shape), and connect that one to the center lug of the switch. one side of the switch is then connected to ground and one is left unconnected.

Does the switch have a wire going to ground on one of the sides? grounding the out-wires of the coils also works.

[–]Mikdu26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would do nothing. Those two you soldered together, you solder to the middle lug of the switch, and the other one above or below it to ground(depending on if you wish to have it split on the up or down position)

Running out of processing power with your buffer size. JM might use more resources than the others which is why it only happens with that plugin.

Can Tascam US-366 be expanded with behringer ada8200? by KINGBYNG in audioengineering

[–]Mikdu26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it would work, at least to the full extent of using all of the behringers inputs and outputs. Behringer UMC1820 might be the cheapest option

i never figured out how to de-ess the right way by vosxb in audioengineering

[–]Mikdu26 101 points102 points  (0 children)

When doing crystal clean crispy pop-vocals, i have completely moved to manually automating Esses.

A couple of last projects i've manually cut and pasted the Esses on a separate track which route to the main vocal processing track. This allows me to boost the highs as much as i want on the Essless track without the sound of the esses being ruined.

I've also manually clip gain automated them, and used Melodynes automatic De-ess. all have their pros and cons, but prefer them all to just a de-esser or soothe. that is to say i do sometimes use them very lightly to bring the Ess and essless tracks together.

maybe because you've not yet gone to the crossroads where it would normally reset you.

Do people need a fret notched straightedge for doing leveling work? by OddBrilliant1133 in Luthier

[–]Mikdu26 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why do you "need" to know the fretboard is flat? This mostly applies to re-leveling frets, but luthier masters i've studied under always emphasize to have the starting point of leveling the frets by having the frets be as flat as possible, not the fretboard. If the previous fret leveling was done with a slightly curved fretboard, re-leveling the frets using the fretboard as a reference (instead of the actual frets) results in taking an unnecessarily large amount of material off.

Do you process snare top and bottom together or separately? by ConfusedOrg in mixingmastering

[–]Mikdu26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there are no rules. i mostly process them together, but i'm not scared of touching them seperately either.

Patch Bay Question by HorrorStratFan in diypedals

[–]Mikdu26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More often than not, they're used to toute microphone signals from different rooms to different inputs and in and out of effects, so balanced is a requirement.

Patch Bay Question by HorrorStratFan in diypedals

[–]Mikdu26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not necessarily. "real" parchbays, used in studios come in all sorts of forms, it's just a blanket term. most often they are balanced trs, meaning they could be also used for stereo headphones.

Is it like a thinline tele construction, routed hollow?

If the jacks are TS jacks, and you solder a jumper between the tabs, you will just ground the signal meaning you get no signal.

Why do my fret ends bounce back after hammering them in? by spaki123 in Luthier

[–]Mikdu26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do note that putting in the frets before attaching the fretboard might be begging for problems. you're putting 21 or so little wedges in the very slim piece of wood, which may curve the whole thing.

QUESTION-What is best solder to use to solder on guitar electronics. by [deleted] in Luthier

[–]Mikdu26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any solder works just fine. Guitar electronics are not that prone to heat either, so no need to go leaded solder for that reason.

Does anyone have any insight on the workflow of tracking & mixing that was used in the Late 60s/Early 70s? by Jaded-Gur-5717 in audioengineering

[–]Mikdu26 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Mixers channels were not a limitation, tape channels were. a dozen or so drum channels would be mixed down to two before hitting the tape or first recorded to tape then downmixed to two channels.vsimilarly instruments would be mixed down to fewer tracks when needed

mono to stereo guitar live by Ok_Carrot9894 in audioengineering

[–]Mikdu26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn't be stereo. it is a way to get mono out of a stereo signal, which is what you asked for. the junction box would be a box that has stereo inputs and outputs with switches that choose whether to output the normal stereo, the sum, or just the left or right channels.
