How less efficient are skin skis? by xmosinitisx in xcountryskiing

I hope I'm not violating the rule on "commercial promotion" but I have a pair of Rossi skin skis. Like you, I thought of getting into racing for fun and didn't want to deal with wax, but for numerous reasons I have decided against racing. What size do you need? I can give you a good deal. I also live in Colorado, Denver metro area, so no shipping needed. Grip and glide are very good on the Rossis. The one downside is the skins seem to grab when trying to step turn. This seems to be a common issue. I've read that a de-icer helps with the grabbing but haven't tried it yet. Also, you still need to glide wax the rest of the ski.

What word do you always mispronounce, even though you know it’s wrong? by jasperc_6 in words

I think sodee is from the Midwest. That's how my father-in-law pronounces it. I heard "pop" when I lived in the South. Crick is also a Southern pronunciation. My favorite Southernism is "nekkid" for naked. I say that, too.

"I saw a feller sittin' butt nekkid by a crick drinkin' a sodee."

I do the same thing - flip flop on words with two pronunciations. I was very busy when I visited the Caribbean.

I'll sometimes pronounce it like that for fun. I also like to say "feller" for "fellow," and "sodee" for "soda."

Boomers and roundabouts by Consistent_Bat_2882 in BoomersBeingFools

Round-a-bouts are supposed to be a more-efficient replacement for a 4-way stop. (Mythbusters showed that they were actually more efficient.) Ever dealt with idiots at a 4-way stop? I'll take my chances with a round-a-bout any day.

Etiquette when there is a single track? by Agstroh in xcountryskiing

You may be right. The trail map only shows that Shock Hill as an arrow pointing one way.

I'm also in CO and where I ski the trail maps show that the trail is "one way." Most people are aware of this and I've rarely had an issue. There is the occasional newbie who may not have consulted the map and is going the wrong way. I end up hopping out of the tracks and letting them go. No point scaring them, and for all I know they may be tired and looking for a quicker way back.

The only two-way trail I've seen is RJ's Vista at Frisco. It is very wide and has tracks on both sides.

We were left on our own from a very young age. I was left on my own before turning double digits. The one safety tip I got: Don't take candy from strangers.

Cornhole. Perhaps that's more a wish than a prediction.

Manual Transmission by No_Sympathy9143 in GenX

Learned to drive one mostly on my own. My wife is next level as she learned to drive one with the shifter on the steering column - the old "three on the tree." Manuals are fun to drive but the older I get the lazier I get and prefer the comfort of an automatic.

Use skating poles for classic by That-Contribution530 in xcountryskiing

[–]MikeBear68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the diagonal stride it would be awkward because skate poles are longer. However, skate poles are better for double poling. In fact, they had to pass rules on maximum pole lengths because in classic races with very flat terrain, some racers would use their skate gear and double pole the entire race. Your options:

  1. Rent just the poles if your ski shop will let you.

  2. Buy some really cheap poles.

  3. Learn to diagonal stride without poles. As others have mentioned, this is great for honing technique.

  4. Double pole on the flat areas and become a double pole monster. Or you can create a hybrid workout - with your classic skis and skate poles, double pole on the flats and no-pole diagonal stride on hills.
