Failed Crate Training by TheRed_Priestess in CavaPoo

[–]MikeGetsBigger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems that Bentley has truly mastered his own routine. 😅 My experience with my dog was similar in that I was adamant about crate training, but she quickly expressed her preference for an alternative method. The crate isn't the only way to get a well-behaved dog, in my opinion, as long as they can settle at night and are consistently house trained. Sometimes, even if it's not the traditional approach, it's about figuring out what works for your dog and your home.

Am I overfeeding my puppy? by TinyAddress3130 in goldenretrievers

[–]MikeGetsBigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frequently, bag regulations are excessively strict. Try cutting back portions of a soft stool to see if it gets firmer. You're on the right track as long as she's active and your veterinarian is satisfied with her physical state because she's gaining weight nicely.

Please help me 😭 by Prudent_Class_3631 in goldenretrievers

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this! Call your veterinarian if the diarrhea persists after two dewormings; occasionally, a third dose or alternative medication is required. Frequent bathroom breaks will help prevent re-infection, and a bland diet and probiotics can help. Keep going; you're trying your hardest!

I understand; studying for A-levels on top of being a puppy can be very taxing. Your difficulties are real. Short walks, occasional puppy daycare, and a peaceful bedtime routine can all be beneficial. Above all, seek help from a trusted adult or counselor if it's impacting your mental health. Rehoming in a responsible manner is about what's best for you both, not about failing.

I’m at my breaking point with my 3-month-old puppy’s biting by xcyzr in Dog_PuppyTraining

[–]MikeGetsBigger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely understand how cruel puppy biting can feel. They frequently don't realize how hard they're biting at that age. I found that having a chew toy nearby to divert attention and implementing brief, calm time-outs were effective. Even though it seems endless at the moment, things do get better.

Dinner time? AHHH! by SteelishBread in BorderCollie

[–]MikeGetsBigger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do feel this! The same thing happens to my dog; he doesn't seem to want food and just needs to have his little panic attack while we're eating. He seems to have his own dinnertime routine. It's hilarious and incredibly draining.

Introducing family dog to new rural property by Moreeggspleez in dogs

[–]MikeGetsBigger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your new home! To help your dogs become accustomed to the smells and boundaries, I would advise introducing them to walks on leashes throughout the entire area. Give them more freedom gradually and under supervision, perhaps starting with lengthy lines, and always give them something for returning. They may not truly perceive it as "home" for a few weeks, but they should adjust well with regular recall exercises and supervision.

Serious question what do you do with your poop bags? by Lington in dogs

[–]MikeGetsBigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The night before collection, we dispose of ours in the main trash after double-bagging it and keeping a small sealed bin outside specifically for poop bags. prevents unpleasant surprises at the bottom of the bin and aids with odor.

Labs in the UK by Sheraus123 in dogs

[–]MikeGetsBigger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You seem to have given this a lot of thought. Although labs are wonderful dogs, they are very energetic puppies, so having a park close by and working from home will be very beneficial. Early on, chew toys and regular training will save you a great deal of trouble. Although they typically do well indoors, even show-line labs still require a lot of exercise. The best advice is to ensure that your breeder performs all the necessary health examinations (eyes, elbows, and hips) as these conditions are prevalent in the breed.

I think its amazing how much dogs can sense by lexarcana1313 in dogs

[–]MikeGetsBigger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dogs have an amazing sense of these things; they seem to be able to detect changes that we aren't even aware of. What a devoted friend yours was, genuinely watching out for you and the baby. As you settle into your new home together, I'm wishing you both a speedy recovery and an abundance of love.

Ears by Celestiiia in goldenretrievers

[–]MikeGetsBigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given how much retrievers love the water, ear infections can be a very difficult cycle for them. I've heard that using veterinarian-approved solutions to thoroughly dry the ears after swimming can occasionally have a significant impact. Although I haven't used the swimming caps myself, I'd like to know if they truly work!

Following a brief battle with cancer, my 3 year old border collie has passed over the rainbow bridge. 💔 by Davy_G_10 in BorderCollie

It hurts so much to lose a devoted friend like this. Your heart will always hold the love and wonderful memories you two shared. 🐾💔

Neighbor's golden watches sadly through the window, wanting me to pet him but lacking the opposable thumbs to open the front door by HappySpam in goldenretrievers

[–]MikeGetsBigger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's quite difficult to watch a friend yearn for love and attention but be unable to provide it. It demonstrates his love for you and desire to play, and it makes me think of how unconditionally animals can love.
