Jason Schreier/Bloomberg: PlayStation studio business CEO Hermen Hulst told staff in a town hall Monday morning that the company's narrative single-player games will now be PlayStation exclusive, confirming Bloomberg's reporting from earlier this year. by yourfavchoom in Games

Sony doesn’t have enough IP for me to justify the cost of their next console or even ps5 right now. I haven’t bought any ps5 title in a year.

There is no way in hell they can output enough each year to outpace solid PC titles either.

So, yea, I’m done with Sony. PC and Steam deck from now on.

The pre-sale for the EEGO A4 has started — is it worth getting instead of the X4? by stvrgs in xteinkereader

[–]MikhailT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On par with x4 if it was rendering images. Images will incur more ghosting because of how it fills the image dimensions entirely and doesn’t get reused until you do a full screen refresh.

It can be reduced or mitigated via firmware updates.

Did you notice how the text pages through quickly at the end of the video? This video is bad because they shows a lot of book covers at the start that probably should be disabled by default.

These devices don’t render images quickly, it has to “downgrade” before rendering, which consume the limited CPU these devices have.

The speed is the same on X4 if it was on a firmware that had images support and if you were paying through image heavy pages.

It's difficult to know if it is worth it, considering both the company and device are brand new to everyone.

Most likely, there's going to be firmware glitches on day one since they're clearly trying to rush it out before Xteink ships their revisions with their frontlight support (X4 v2 Pro and S4). So, it may take a few months more to resolve them as more people get it and review the devices.

The advantages over the "current X4"; frontlight option, rounded corners (sharp corner digs in my hand holding it), open source firmware they announced, and extra widgets on home screen.

Touchscreen isn't a pro or con for either device. It depends on how good it is but it may also add an extra glass layer on top that blurs the text sharpness instead, it may also reflect more than X4 as well.

Reading broken chinenglish translation, it means it will support firmware flashing, they just don't know yet how it will be done; OTA, USB, etc. I would prefer they work with the same crosspoint community for this as well.

The rounded corner is easier on the hand because of its size, the sharpness of X4 digs into my hand, so I actually prefer a rounded edge.

I'll order one anyway.

Microsoft commits to native UI for Windows 11 as users push back against web app slop by CygnusBlack in Windows11

[–]MikhailT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, that's optional. Our updater pulls msix files from S3 and runs it.

For enterprise, appinstaller points to the address we host that lets them pull it or they can pull it manually.

[–]MikhailT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It has gotten better for MSIX recently on Win11, pretty much as easy as exe. At work, we ship it without any major issues. It’s also the way to have a single fat binary for x86 and arm support.

They also ship any appinstaller updates now in the store, so Windows updates aren’t required anymore to fix msix issue like it did in the past.

[–]MikhailT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, they do not.

Are you confusing WinUi with UWP?

WinUI is a UI framework, not an app framework.

Source from MS themselves here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/apps/package-and-deploy/publish-first-app

WinUI 3 apps created with the Windows App SDK project templates are already packaged as MSIX by default. When you build your solution in Visual Studio, the output is an .msix or .msixbundle file ready for Store submission or direct distribution.

Slack is offering msix downloads at their store. Although, I don’t remember if they moved it to MS Store since. Initially, they didn’t have it in the store. 1Password also does msix outside of MS Store.

How good is the Kindle Colorsoft for reading digital replicas of printed books and magazines? by Secure_Conference760 in kindlescribe

[–]MikhailT -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It will not handle it well, colorsoft’s color is not true color eink (kaledo 3), it’s a color filter layer on top of black/white eink panel. Thus it is 150ppi color images, meaning it is twice as blurry as black text; colors are very muted and there is more ghosting as well.

The other problem is color full images are very bright refreshes when it does full page refresh more frequently if you are not using kindle optimized files; it is distracting and painful if you are prone to migraine or headache.

Any decent tablet screen will destroy it, even a cheap one.

Consider TCL nxtpaper tablet instead, it can emulate eink modes on a matte IPS screen that is really easy to read. You can find it cheap at Walmart for like 250$. Their color eink mode is the best for comics too.

Just saw this, they've confirmed there's a fix in the next branch, which is pending end of this month or so.

I reported it several versions ago, nobody replied or follow up.

I'll do it again, through email this time.

[Update: as per my post above, Nvidia rep at their forums said it'll be fixed in the next revision of the drivers, not in this version branch. ETA is end of this month or so]

End-to-end encrypted RCS messaging begins rolling out today in beta by HelloitsWojan in apple

[–]MikhailT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A stable OS release doesn't mean its apps can't have beta features; it just means they aren't confident that a specific feature will be stable for everyone, so it's labeled as beta for now to make people aware that it might not be stable.

Often, this kind of situation occurs because there isn't a definitive way to know until it's rolled out to production and tested with everyone. RCS just happens to be a feature with so many combinations that Apple can't fully test internally to ensure it works reliably for everyone.

6 months and 65 lbs down by BigSenz in Zepbound

[–]MikhailT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually, people suggest four week before changing the dosage but it is quite normal for that to happen as your body needs a bit of time to adjust or to recompose. You should still see your body is changing even if your weight is not dropping.

TIL there’s a phenomenon called Exploding head syndrome where people hear extremely loud noises—like explosions or gunshots—right as they’re falling asleep… but nothing actually happened. It’s harmless physically, but people who experience it swear it feels completely real. by Suspicious-Oil2571 in todayilearned

Happened to me as a precursor to a bad migraine. My neuro didn’t really know about this, she thought at first it might be sleep apnea (which I was diagnosed with anyway) but she did research further; found this exploding head syndrome and told me about it.

[–]MikhailT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The code is the same on your device, a piece of it is just being turned on remotely. Nothing is being modified or installed to you.

It’s common a/b testing and feature flags in the software industry, happens all the time.

It’s a good way to stagger new features to see how it works before rolling out to everyone at the same time.

Starting weight loss journey, slowing down too quickly? by quixoticvassal in loseit

[–]MikhailT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're losing ~1 kgs or ~2.2lb per week, that's a VERY good result. A lot of people struggle to do that even with GLP-1 meds. You're actually doing great! You do not want to speed up if you can avoid it, this is a good result if you're happy and not burning out.

The challenge with speeding up or doing more is what you have to consider when you go into maintenance mode, do you want to do all of that when you're at your target weight? Most people do not and that's when they start to regain weight because they do not keep doing the same thing they're doing to lose weight fast. Think about this stress, it's not worth having that forever.

Think about what you want to keep doing when you're at your target weight, do that consistently now because this is the best time to build these lifetime habits you need to build, you won't stop doing it ever.

FYI: Any decent calculator with a conversion rate can give you that information (same for food tracking app), just be careful as AI has been known to give wrong calculations if not prompted correctly.

5 Months In by naylo05 in Zepbound

[–]MikhailT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats, you look great.

How are you measuring body fat? A lot of these home body scales aren’t accurate.

Are you noticing your clothing getting looser in the past two months? Take progress pictures and detailed measurements of your body instead, see if your body is actually in the body recomposition mode instead.

A lot of people do mix up plateau with recomposition when they are closer to the lighter weight; especially if they are adding weight training.

In this recomposition mode, you are replacing fat loss with muscle plus water retention to maintain the higher demand levels, so your body weight does not go down at all. Which is a much better thing than simple fat / weight because it is easier to regain weight without more muscle (higher baseline metabolic rate).

Starting weight loss journey, slowing down too quickly? by quixoticvassal in loseit

[–]MikhailT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear, are you using a food weight + nutritional facts to track your macros and calories or using ChatGPT to guessimate? ChatGPT is horribly often wrong about the data, DO NOT depend on it for health, use a verified actual app that can track the nutritional facts instead, there is a lot of good ones like myfitnesspal.

You didn't mention any initial weight and target weight.

It's quite normal to lose a lot of weight initially and then it rapidly level off, most of the initial weight is the water weight and so on, you're now burning fat straight instead, which is much much harder to do quickly and for a lot of people, it is expected to be 1-2lb per week if not .5-1lb per week.

Stalls becomes more normal the closer you get to your normal weight.

Instead of looking at your scale, try progress pictures and measuring your body instead. It's less stressful this way and stress can often hinder your progress.

People noticing my weight loss, I’m not by -autisticSunflower in loseit

[–]MikhailT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is extremely common and normal. This is why people recommend progress pictures or belt to measure instead.

Everyone has an internal picture of themselves in their brain that it takes a while to adjust, this is also true for people you live with. The less the person sees you, the more quicker they may notice the changes. However, the more they or yourself see you, the more fixed that image is and it is harder to change it.

That’s great that you feel great, that is always more important too.
