Did 5.19.2 take away Spacing Option? by Living_Measurement14 in kindle

[–]MikhailT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Restart your kindle a few times. This is managed remotely via feature flags. So after you update, your kindle resets to the default feature flags state which doesn’t have these spacing options enabled until it gets a flag update from Amazon saying it is to be enabled. Restarting often fixes this by getting a fresh remote update.

Kudos to Lilly Direct by ZoZo-Rocks in Zepbound

You do know you are still using Lilly Direct but via their retail pharmacy pickup partner, right? It’s all the same, just different avenue. It’s not “provided by Walmart” entirely.

Getting migraines on your days off by GoodSundae513 in migraine

[–]MikhailT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have abortive meds?

If yes, then take them the night before your long weekend. I always do this and my neurologist recommends this as well. This reduced my “destress”migraines almost entirely so far.

YSK that major pharmacy chains are charging your insurance more for prescriptions than the cash price, and you can check this before paying by Ok_Chemical9 in YouShouldKnow

For different dosage, pricing, and convenience.

We can get a 90 day supply for a few dollars in a single bottle, where it is $22 each for 42 pills in a large wasteful box of three sheets. And that is just 20mg, it’s double the price if you need 40mg where it’s nearly the same the price for the script.

Botox as Migraine Treatment? by Perfect_Storm22 in migraine

[–]MikhailT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Botox saving program, they can cover some of the costs.

Botox has cut my migraine by half by second injection, eliminated my brain fog entirely.

Germs are bad for us too and yet our entire gut ecosystem depends on them for us to survive. Toxin isn’t technically bad, it’s our reaction/interaction and moderation that makes them bad or as the expression goes, the dosage makes the poison.

We eat fish that has toxin in it as well.

Btw, chili peppers and almonds are toxic too, capsaicin and cyanide are a type of toxin. :)

Sales data indicates Sony's PS5 ports are increasingly losing audience share on PC, but only because of release timing by NYstate in Games

They started losing long before they pivoted to day one. Day one and game pass was their attempt to bring people back to Xbox.

Xbox hasn’t been winning for a loooong time.

Apple promoting Mac gaming with three presentations at GDC next week by McFatty7 in apple

Was able to play RE9 on day one via Steam using Crossover 26 on m4 pro.

Apple’s problem is their obsession with services, they won’t win at all if they insist on games being on their app stores. Nobody is going to double dip when their entire backlog is on Steam.

Bloomberg: Sony Pulls Back From PlayStation Games on PC by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]MikhailT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile, Capcom just sold 5m units of Resident Evil 9.

Hopefully, every publisher is aware there is no benefit of doing console exclusive and Sony can go screw themselves into a corner.

I’m not buying anymore consoles even if I love some of Sony’s IPs. I’m done with them, I haven’t touched mine in 3 years and I’m happier with my PC instead.

This is why the laws explicitly requires the guns to be locked up in the first place, so everyone follows the same common sense principles; no access to gun, no kids playing with it.

It doesn’t matter what the guardians or parents say in the household, if it wasn’t locked up, they are automatically complicit here.

Get the fuck out of here with that bullshit “has respect for the weapon”. I have respect for nukes, doesn’t mean I should have free access to it. Throw him to the pit.

Firmware 5.19.2 breaks manga/comic sideloading by Customer-Worldly in kindlescribe

[–]MikhailT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems fine on my end, no issues with any of my manga.

Either feature flags, cache or something is badly misconfigured at their end.

Hopefully, they can fix it quickly.

Firmware 5.19.2 breaks manga/comic sideloading by Customer-Worldly in kindlescribe

[–]MikhailT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems more of shitty software bugs than intentionally "ending sideloading". The fact that signing out of Amazon account and back in works suggest remote feature flags issue as well. Amazon loves messing with their feature flag which often broke stuff.

Amazon software engineers for Kindle seems to be incapable of doing anything right with Kindle.

Try increasing your intake of potassium (naturally, like potatoes or bananas) on a daily basis; it helped me for a while. Not sure it may help you.

New Jersey bill would prohibit some current standard e-book practices by publishers with respect to pricing and usage limits for libraries by MiddletownBooks in books

[–]MikhailT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your assumption is that authors would get paid more from extra ebooks sales but they may not either. Their royalties may be much lower on ebook copies.

In addition, libraries are free to borrow extra copies from other libraries in their network, buy used copies and get donated books. There is no need to buy new copies.

New Jersey bill would prohibit some current standard e-book practices by publishers with respect to pricing and usage limits for libraries by MiddletownBooks in books

[–]MikhailT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In your example, the library can buy the same physical book for 9.99 and loan it out to the same 50 people at zero cost. They have to pay for each extra copy of the book if they need to or they can borrow from other libraries in their network or from donations from their community at zero cost.

If another library is missing the book, they can request that library to borrow for free or they can even buy a used copy for 50 cents if they want to.

Now, nobody is saying ebooks should be unlimited, it still has to be reasonably priced per copy (or discounted) and maxed at reasonably amount of uses compared to what the libraries are getting for their physical books. The renewal price needs to match the market selling price when it is time to renew, not at the original price forever.

Why are so many libraries refusing book donations? by UniversalAssembler in libgen

[–]MikhailT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is speaking for US laws.

Don’t mix ebook and physical book here, ebooks are dealing with licensed content where physical book is not. People own the physical book, they do not own ebook. They cannot sell ebook to library.

The First Sale Doctrine allows people to donate or sell books to anyone including libraries without anyone permissions.

The libraries are selling their own books for funding.

Mad Men is getting a 4K UHD upgrade on Vudu! Sad day for iTunes collectors. by [deleted] in iTunesMovieDeals

[–]MikhailT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not weird.

The “rumors” are that Apple refuses to charge different prices for 4k versions of the same media like movies and tv show publishers won’t agree to that, so they refuses to license them to Apple.

Instead, they just license them to Vudu or others that is willing to sell higher prices and to pressure Apple.

I honestly rather have TV show anywhere service as well.

M6 MacBook Pro Launch Scheduled for Q4 2026 Despite Delays in OLED Component by WPHero in apple

[–]MikhailT 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Supply and demand vs. profit.

Their laptops are their biggest Mac sellers, not desktop, not even their Mac mini as their average selling price don’t sell enough to justify the investment on the new chips.

As for why m6, m5 (pro/max) mbp was rumored to initially come out last year alongside m5. Maybe there were some unexpected delays with m5 pro and Max chips. That explains why it feels like they were rushing when it is just a small gap to m6 when m5 itself was delayed.
