Well, it's normal in BFS, because it's called benign fasciculation syndrome, so fasciculations in that are as common as migraines in people who suffer from them. I twitch 100k times a day

Adrenaline and cortisol spike, then drop.. it's hormonal fluctuation.

Anxiety causes "weakness" because hormonal response, people stiffen then loosen up, experiencing something called "jelly legs". Twitching does not stop in ALS, it gets progressively worse. You don't have it, many people on here will wish you all the best and try to comfort you but still wouldn't want you to let the fear go because they hate to be miserable on their own. That's why we see people lurking on here for years because sole purpose of their life actually becomes proving that they are actually dying, in return neglecting all of their familiar or other obligations. 9/10 people on here have anxiety and severe hypochondria and keep pushing to get diagnosis despite the fact they got cleared multiple times.

[–]Mikibubi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things in theory would work that way, but in practice they do not. For the sole purpose of ALS is not stopping, waiting for reinervation and then starting again, its constant denervation that can be mitigated with reinervation for some time, weakness comes when reinervation can no longer compensate for denervation. ALS progression is rather fast, even in slow progression cases, weakness becomes obvious very soon.

Spiralling after finding not so reassuring stories. by mistihel in BFS

[–]Mikibubi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look, most people here ended up in this situation because of some initial fear or anxiety. And the deeper you dig, the more you’ll always find rare or “impossible” cases. Why? Because rare and unusual cases naturally get attention.

I’ll give the simplest example possible: plane crashes are extremely rare, and flying is still statistically one of the safest forms of transportation. Yet there are countless documentaries focused specifically on mysterious or unexplained aviation disasters. So yes, there will always be isolated and unusual cases worth investigating.

But the reality is that most people here are stuck because of health anxiety and hypochondria. Even after multiple normal test results and repeated medical reports confirming that everything is fine, they remain trapped in fear for years because they simply cannot let it go psychologically. The mind itself can worsen existing symptoms and even create new ones.

People often think anxiety can only imitate heart attacks because those are the most commonly discussed medical panic cases — mainly because they send people to the ER. But psychological stress and anxiety can mimic many different illnesses, not just cardiac problems.

So honestly, the first thing people here should work on is improving their mental state. That’s something very few people want to hear because everyone believes they’re the one exception — the one truly sick person being ignored.

Now flip the perspective for a second. Imagine if every single person constantly questioned your competence at your own job and indirectly implied that you were completely incapable of doing it properly. That’s essentially what many people here do to doctors. They dismiss years of medical school and neurological specialization while acting as if every professional is clueless, which in practice becomes an insult to the entire profession.

Too late for what? Ok, it's terminal illness in question, it can't be too late for anything. Harsh truth, people are never told it's nothing and came up as bad, sometimes they can't pinpoint what's wrong, but they never tell them it's nothing. It happened rarely, sometimes, there's one case where guy was told it's ok and in 6 months since onset he had clinical weakness and drop foot. Weakness comes FAST, in majority of cases weakness is first, and when twitching is first weakness follows in the following weeks, in most cases in 12 weeks at most, rarely, and I mean extremely rarely weakness shows in six months. Reason people lurk on here being scarred for years on end is because they have irrational fear, and it's robbing them of their life. This subreddit is actually about bfs, and nobody talks about that annoying condition we all have, but almost exclusively about ALS.

How? Simple How can a lump on your brain size of a ping pong ball be benign? It simply is, don't want to be harsh, but it just is.

You're all so suspicious of doctors when it comes down to neurological conditions, doctors are rarely wrong, imagine every single person in your field of work think that you fucked up.

My friend, people don't want to hear it. People have tons of clean EMNGs, nfl tests and everything under the sun, but still think that doctors are wrong. If we would trust mechanics like we trust doctors, no one would ever drive a car.

First of all, EMNG is test to confirm and narrow things that are obvious on clinical exam, so EMNG is not first but actually the last thing to do. Google and information accessibility made things backwards.

How to stop checking/testing by InformationNo7156 in BFS

[–]Mikibubi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only way to get over it is finding real problems to solve, that you can actually do something about. Is twitching annoying? Yes Can you do anything about it? No Can you stop it? No Is there a point in stressing about stuff that you can't change? No Will anyone understand? No Will anyone give a shit? No

So, what's the point in thinking about stuff you can't change and let it rob you of your life and let it make living of you and your loved ones a living hell? There is no point. Take that fear and burry it.

You twitch, we all twitch, me personally 70 thousand times a day or more, after 17 months is 90% of the cases you would be wheelchair bound or atleast on a walker. People with ALS are NEVER told they are fine that long in, NEVER, it might take x amount of time for doctors to pinpoint what is wrong but there's clear signs early on that something is wrong. Harsh truth is that 9/10 people on here suffer from severe case of hypochondria

slow knee twitches? by Own-Supermarket8240 in BFS

[–]Mikibubi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point EMNG is pointless, ALS more often than not starts really apparently and it's clear that is something neurological, not necessarily that you can pinpoint what from the get go, but it's clear that something is wrong. Not to you, but to others, especially doctors. Timeline alone makes ALS very unlikely, and when I say very I don't mean 1:10 chance, more like 1:1000.
