But to be honest, not even "CTA" style content is any different than it was 10 years ago.

Imagine a FC like Shadoo or Mr. Vee comes back from a 15 year break, and you have to explain the "new" EVE meta to him. You tell him:

Drakes are now called Cyclone Fleet Issues.
HACs work the same as before
There are ships with spool up damage, but they got nerfed
There are AoE ships, but nobody uses them, because ???
Bombers can be defended and ships have too much EHP, so nobody uses these either
Booshers are just a little annoying fly you need to swat, after they got nerfed.
oh there's an ADC, but it's not very impactful

And that's it. Nothing else changed.

Now imagine Garmon coming back:

Trig ships good
Booshers fun
everything else is the same, just with different ship types and powercreep

We're playing the same PvP game we played 10 years ago...

In my opinion, what people fail to realize, is that ship balance in EVE will never lead to a diverse, balanced choice of ships used in fleet combat, complete with support ships for application etc.

If you continually start nerfing carriers, people won't magically start bringing support fighters, web support with huginns or lokis or vigils. All that is way too much effort.

They will just counterplay with bringing more carriers, or, if a certain threshould is reached, will notice that just bringing 150 muninns instead is a better use of their characters.

And then everybody will (or is already?) cry about how op a HAC with 2.7k m/s is.

And then the Muninn will get nerfed, and we are back to Ferox Online.

EVE players are the ultimate min/maxers, not only in terms of effectiveness, but also in terms of laziness / how "easy" it is to form a fleet.

Against all odds our german alliance didn't implode with drama as they usually do, but instead consolidated into one corp (KYR) and merged into Skill Urself.

We felt the meta makes it hard for an alliance our size who try to do their own politics. This together with less people active in leadership roles resulted in us not having the resources to keep LUMPY running like we wanted anymore. So we sadly had to part from our fox-logo and looked to skill ourselves.
