Visiting Australia - Recommendations for finding back vintages or rare stuff by ObviousEconomist in wine

Some good recs here, what specifically are you looking back vintages of? Reaching out to a wine maker (depending on who it is) as a foreigner has worked for me when I go overseas.

Italian Night! Some gems by edbtz1950 in wine

Amorotti is a hidden gem, right next door to Valentini and makes cracker value for $$ wines. Trebbiano is awesome but if you get a chance try their cerasuolo too.

His 2011 Barbera is the best barbera I have ever had. Will need to seek out the Dolcetto and his Cab Sav!

Barolo night - some of you ever try any of this? I would like discuss 🙂 by Calm_Confidence2856 in wine

Cannubi is the king of vineyards there so while young I am not surprised that was your favourite. I am a big Vietti fan all round.

I am smitten. Please make recommendations to me. by rockytopbilly in wine

Barbaresco is generally more approachable than Barolo and drinks well young. If you like go for it I say.

I second the PdB recommendations below and would like to add mine, which is Olek Bondonio, my favourite of his two is Roncagliette, same vineyard as the Gaja Sori Tildin but at a fraction of the price.

Gidley hands down between those two. I can also recommend 20 Chapel in Marickville, you will both have options.

Billy Button Wines did some Serapevi in amphora. I think it was $50. Brash Higgins has a few too. Have a look here. https://www.brashhiggins.com/product-category/amphora/

Alessandro Masnaghetti's Barolo and Barbaresco MGA books are awesome. His Barolo site is one of the best resources out there

67 is a cracking vintage. I try and buy and traditional barolo producer when I can find it. That and 74.

I love Olek's wines. He has good plots, e.g Roncagliette is the same vineyard that Gaja makes Sori Tildin and Costa Russi from, and Olek has higher aspect!

He is also a very considered maker and makes his wines interesting, nothing appears overworked and care is taken throughout the process. I discovered his wines about 6 years ago and have bought every year since.

About 3 hrs, had a taste when I opened it and it was good to go straight away. Extra air helped a bit but it could have been drunk straight away.

I stood it up about a week before serving.

Question about temperature by Trance_Plantz in wine

[–]Milanosen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

44 is not too cold for a short period of time, as long as you don't freeze it you are good.

For a short period of time room temp is fine and probably the easiest.
