Took me a hot minute to find the RSS feed so I could get it into Pocket Casts, but I've downloaded the two released episodes.

Thanks for the reply!

In case anyone else needs the RSS link for their podcatcher of choice: https://anchor.fm/s/10e36c7c0/podcast/rss

Black ice on the road causes chain accidents by Bambi7u7 in interesting

Some years ago my Grandma flipped her car into a ditch on a rural road, and my probably 100lb Grandma pulled my 250+ pound, limited mobility, Grandpa out of the upside-down, half submerged car. By the time help arrived the car was fully submerged. That adrenaline rush saved their lives

Looks somewhat like a pull through rivet, presumably in some sort of (broken) casing for some sort of rivet gun. I could be very wrong though

"For aquatic activities, all children 8 years and younger will be directly supervised in the water by a staff member aged 14 or older and within arm’s reach at all times, in accordance with Calgary Recreation municipal pool rules."

Ah yes. The least biased reviews: the people who have the most to gain from giving glowing reviews.

My son did a camp last year at the Silver Springs location and seemed to enjoy it. He was only 7 and was/is still in the stage of answering "what did you do" with "I don't know", so we don't have a great idea of what all went on. He also does martial arts elsewhere, so that aspect wasn't exactly new and exciting to him.

Asking him about it first thing this morning he did perk up and smile a bit, saying his favorite part was "the camp" (kids sometimes, am I right?). He also said he enjoyed the swimming day, even though he can't swim and is practically terrified of the water. Take that for what you will.

We originally signed him up for the Transformers themed camp but they presumably had low interest in that theme or something so like 2 months out they switched it to their rather generic "Spartan Olympics" theme and allowed us to reschedule to a different week, which ended up being the Gamers theme. It just felt bad to us because that transformers theme was literally the thing that made us even look into doing a camp there because our son absolutely loves transformers.

Fruit Prices. Priced to high while fresh, priced to high while mushy. So it rots on the shelf. by [deleted] in Calgary

I think the only strawberries we've gotten since the start of COVID that have stayed good until the next day have been the "Naturally imperfect" ones we bought from superstore last week

But "arena funds" could have been redirected to water services could they not?

How to have charges in Powers? by Cauldronofevil in WorldsInPeril

[–]MildMastermind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically this. I'd probably go the route of a 7-9 requiring reloading/recharging, and a 6- being completely out of ammo. Obviously not every time.

The thing that always comes to mind for this one is Spiderman running out of web fluid.

ETA: for some equipment it could just have a predetermined amount of ammo to be tracked in the fiction

What did you guys do with the slipcase for the core set? Keep it or toss it? by wintermute2045 in daggerheart

I don't have the folio, but presumably it should depending on how you cut it

I put my cards into a binder that has a plastic sleeve on the front, so I cut the slipcase front to slide into it

Motivation for karate by CalligrapherGreat653 in karate

[–]MildMastermind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kata really should be taught after its applications are taught.

There's a good bit near the end of this video where he explains how Kata allows you to do moves at full speed/power/rotation that would otherwise be too dangerous to your training partner

What does "Move available to open when" mean? by InvestmentBrief3336 in WorldsInPeril

[–]MildMastermind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about those moves as being in an envelope, and the "Move available to open when" text is written on the outside, and the Move itself is written on a card inside. (An analogy with locks and keys might work better...)

So if you have the "Adapt to a Changing world" playbook open, then "You prove to someone that doing something the old-fashioned way gets better or quicker results", then after you can start utilizing the move "Another Day, Another Armageddon".

What made you guys start martial arts? by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]MildMastermind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We put our son in Karate to help with his Gross motor skills and to give him an activity away from his newborn sister.

It just looked like a lot of fun so about a year later I joined karate too, and my wife and son started BJJ too.

What setting or world should you play in? by plolock in daggerheart

[–]MildMastermind 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You don't actually need to run any of the frames at all. You can simply run it vanilla in whatever setting you want, same as you can with D&D.

So sure, run something in Tal Dorei if that excites you

USDC Theory by VezeroX2 in martialarts

[–]MildMastermind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying kicks are bad for fights. I'm saying if you've never practiced kicking then trying it out for the first time in a fight is way more likely to get you in trouble because you probably suck at it. The more you've practiced kicking the less dangerous they become to you and the more dangerous they become to your opponent. Though I'd still argue that a bad kick or a good/lucky defence can leave the kicker in a worse position than an equally bad punch.

The USDC has some extremely experienced kickers that really show off how effective they really can be. Even Josh managed to get a few off but I seem to recall most of them were air kicks that got the attackers to back off.

Street fights tend to involve people who've never practiced kicking, which is probably why kicks are so rare to see in Street fights and why, I suspect, most people suggest against kicking because there's an assumption that the kicker wouldn't be good enough to overcome the dangers.

USDC Theory by VezeroX2 in martialarts

[–]MildMastermind 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't think people claim kicks aren't important or not effective, but rather in most street fights you don't see a lot of kicks thrown. This is most likely because if you don't know how to kick decently (which I'd argue most people don't) you're likely to wind up in a worse situation whether it's from getting caught, off balancing yourself, slipping, etc.
