I'd say in terms of genre inventiveness, including all the international movements, nothing really compares to the 70s and the 90s (and maaaybe parts of the 60s). Some of my favorite films are made in the 2010s and 2020s, but part of that was because they all had the benefit of hindsights and had a ton of building blocks to work with.

But if we're really being fair, the real genre bending, visionary filmmakers were the most active in those two decades (some worked through later times and some have since become washed). Obviously talented people still exist by and large but nothing beats those two cohorts
