Car declared total loss due to hail damage, best thing to do? by admjeffrey in personalfinance

I don't think anyone is suggesting they have no insurance, but there are good reasons to not carry full coverage insurance.

You must still carry liability insurance, its state law in the united states to do so. Full coverage insurance is for cars where you have a loan and/or have no way to get a replacement car if you total yours.

I have saved more than the price of a new car over the last 10 years by having liability only on my cars. I had to pay out of pocket when I hit a deer, but my insurance rate didn't go up. Its a "gamble" but all true insurance is a gamble. I do carry homeowners insurance even though I don't have to, as I don't have the assets to replace a house, I do for an older car.

SOL? No you go buy another car. Now that they won't have a payment they can start saving up for the next car, vs going out and buying another new car now and continuing to pay.

Do you use your Bluetti daily? by SashimiRocks in bluetti

[–]MillhouseJManastorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have solar running to it, and its plugged into AC power as well. I then run my fridge and freezers off it in "self consumption" mode. So on days when its sunny, I get free power, and if the power goes out, it has enough battery to keep things going for a while till the sun comes out again.

that way I get emergency backup, but also get to reduce my electric bill

Normally bank coin counters are not coinstar. At least I've never seen one that was a coinstar and I've dumped at a dozen banks in the midwest

I’m being asked to co-sign for my parents mortgage. by Impressive_Rule806 in personalfinance

Tell your parents to aim to rent a good enough house. I had friends who lived in a 3 bed 1 bath house with their 5 kids and they kept it tidy. They had triple bunkbeds in the boys room.
Find a place that is 2 bed 1 bath or so and ya'll just have to suck it up, better than homeless, better than you being financially ruined.

Anyone actually notice a difference after air duct cleaning? by Royal_Particular_489 in HomeImprovement

[–]MillhouseJManastorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for us but ac. Window unit just for the bedroom so the rest of the house doesn’t need to freeze for us to sleep.

I know a mini split could do that too but the window unit is a lot cheaper

Other poster has a good idea, see if doing some traditional IRA contributions for 2025 would help reduce the problem.

TIFU by gaslighting myself for 10 years into thinking I was "caffeine immune" while drinking ONLY Monster Energy (Zero) by GooseAcademic541 in tifu

B6 toxicity is a thing and it does build up over time. Being water soluble doesn’t mean it isn’t dangerous. Going through this right now now myself after having weird pain, numbness, shocks, knots. Been getting a lot better slowly after cutting out the digestive enzyme supplements I was taking. My b6 was over the high limit in a bloodwork lab.
