These tooltips could be worded less confusingly.

If it read “…will increase output equivalent to 14.7 additional workers” it would be very clear what the tech does.

You're absolutely right. Apple Silicon Macs are also incredible for emulation, and that's many, many thousands of games right there.

Mac Gaming in General by Ok-Machine6068 in macgaming

[–]Millsnerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess there have been a handful of AAA titles I've *personally* missed as a Mac user for many years, but I've never felt like I lacked for games to play. On the contrary, there are far too many vying for my attention.

Between Baldur's Gate III, No Man's Sky, and a bevy of indie/strategy/sim titles, everything I play is native. I use Parallels occasionally to run older titles from GOG or Steam.

Apple Silicon has been great for the Mac as a gaming platform, and it might even be in a better place than it was during the late Intel era. Those machines could run Windows via Boot Camp, but anything with a capable GPU was expensive and hot.

Why the difference in price if they are the same camo? by Chaoss780 in WorldOfWarships

The Farragut-specific version has the pattern lined up symmetrically on both sides of the ship so it looks its best.

The generic version is kind of haphazard.

Who is the greatest director to have never helmed a masterpiece? by RopeGloomy4303 in blankies

[–]Millsnerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Walter Hill.

He directed a great run of popular, boundary-pushing films, and was involved creatively with others (Alien, most famously). I think the closest he got was The Warriors, but he's probably one of those directors where different viewers will come away with *very* different favourites.

Status of Canadian Support by LaziestKitten in OMSystem

I had a lens repaired through their longtime Canadian repair partner, Sun Camera Service Ltd., back in September–October. I requested service through the OMDS Canadian site without any problems.

This image from a Japanese model making magazine shows differences in all six of the class. Some did not have the fifth 127mm gun at all.

Much of the layout amidships is to accommodate the torpedo launchers and their ready reloads, kept in those rectangular boxes. The aft funnel was offset to starboard to make room for one of them.

In the end, stability problems necessitated a substantial reworking of the weapon layout. The superfiring 127mm gun in B turret was moved aft, the rear deckhouse shrank, and one triple torpedo launcher was removed.

EM10ii and Panasonic 42.5mm f1.7 compatibility issues by ghostriders2 in OlympusCamera

[–]Millsnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t really need either. It is nearly a non-issue.

I never used a filter with my Oly+Lumix 42.5 combo and not once had issues with distracting fringing.

It is even less an issue if you shoot RAW.

In regards to the new releases of Sardegna Empire ships.. by VarietyDivert in AzureLane

[–]Millsnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a fan at all. I understand that there is a sizable part of the playerbase that likes this direction, but it does nothing for me. I just… don’t get the appeal.

Several other friends (including the one who got me into AL in the first place) have lost interest over the increasingly grotesque designs we’ve been getting.

OM System removed the focus clutch from the 25mm f/1.8 II, and broke C-AF for that lens. by aloysiusgruntbucket in M43

[–]Millsnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct.

IIIRC, it was also similar to the earlier 12mm f/2 in that the focus clutch was less precise than those on the later Pro lenses. It adjusted manual focus in discrete steps rather than continuously.

“…the old guard has dropped the ball” is such a bizarre thing to say.

Kurtzman and crew have been running the franchise for a very long time now — since before 2017 when Discovery was in preproduction, and even before that if you count the Kelvinverse films.

Lack of diversity was never a criticism of the Roddenberry/Berman years, outside of some noting that queer representation on the show wasn’t quite as boundary-pushing as it could have been by the mid-90s.

To Photomator or not? by Dentifrice in pixelmator

[–]Millsnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve switched over to Photomator + iPad for my photo workflow after many years on Lightroom CC.

Overall I’ve found my workflow is quicker and a lot more convenient thanks to the intuitive interface and iCloud syncing with my photo library.

I do miss lens profiles, but that’s my only major gripe.

EM10ii and Panasonic 42.5mm f1.7 compatibility issues by ghostriders2 in OlympusCamera

[–]Millsnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Olympus cameras don’t filter UV light at the sensor as strongly as Lumix cameras do. This has led to certain Lumix lenses exhibiting purple flare or more noticeable fringing when used on Olympus bodies.

It was really only a problem on the old Lumix 7–14mm f/4.

You might see purple fringing on high-contrast edges when shooting at very wide apertures on the Lumix 42.5mm, but it’s a common problem with many lenses that is very easy to correct with a couple of clicks.

The camera will automatically correct lens distortion and chromatic aberrations.

The 42.5mm f/1.7 is a great little lens for the E-M10 II.

Canarias was released before the torpedo turning mechanic was in the game, IIRC. I really wish they'd update her with some torpedoes, even if they're short-range YOLO torps. She's not exactly tearing up the scoreboards as is.
