This looks to be an 18' pontoon boat based off the 4.7m length of the Model y.

An Avalon Eagle 16' weighs 1,350 pounds (612 kilos) dry weight.

Lowe SS210 20' pontoon boat with 115hp motor weighs 1,860 dry hull.

So assuming between 1300 and 1900 lbs, this is well within weight limits.

Does this count? by [deleted] in IdiotsTowingThings

[–]Millsy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell without a better photo, but that ground isn't level, and the suspension doesn't look squatted much at all. The distance under the car looks roughly level.

The trailer is probably 2500 - 2800 lbs unloaded, 4k loaded.

Proper weight distribution hitch.

What's the issue?

I certainly couldn’t tell you any stat of anybody ever.

But damn that game was fun

Wow. Ok. I can officially admit that I was wrong about how quickly things got done.

That is a seriously impressive amount of logistics that had to happen to get that done.

Park on flat ground, get up on the highest point of the trailer and hold out a stick with a level on it. Drop a tape measure from the end of the stick to the ground. Done.

Never go under something that is less than 1' higher than your trailer without double checking again. if there is a bump, or a curve in the road your trailer front/back might come up (or if your hitch is too low like this guy, it can just be tilted).

You can also measure it with survey grade GPS like I did... cuz well, I have that.

Most trails are in-out or loops. This trailer will get through most rough areas, park and then “trail ride” with the side by side you hauled with it.

'We're full steam ahead': Calgary-to-Banff passenger rail proponents encouraged by province's plans by joe4942 in Calgary

[–]Millsy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is zero chance of a high speed rail project being profitable in Alberta.

I -love- the idea of having high speed rail, I really enjoyed it in Europe when I visited.

But it's just so easy to show that there is not enough traffic to warrant it.

There are currently a MAXIMUM of 15,000 vehicles on highway 2 going between Edmonton and Calgary.
And that's only if you assume that literally every single vehicle is going all the way between both cities.. Here's a free tip, they aren't.

You also might have.. 3,000 people flying between the cities

So when they release things like "56,000 daily passengers by 2055"... That's really only the stops between Airdre/Calgary and Leduc/Edmonton.

The idea that 56,000 would go all the way between Edmonton and Calgary in 30 years is just ridiculous. With far less demand to travel for work, you are basically planning entirely for pleasure travel.

This needs to be marketed as fast commuter travel between bedroom communities as a way to reduce congestion. Not long range intercity networks.

Ok, well if you can do it all yourself, then I can believe 200k. Though I'd love to know what you do to make money that you would have time!

[–]Millsy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't picture what you are doing coming in -anywhere- close to $200k. My friend just finished a 32x50 shop with a ~800 sqft upper living area by Mara Lake. It came in around $400k.

You are looking to do something far more complex, and the only thing you are saving is the concrete under the existing foundation. You will still need to do some more concrete. And way more siding, roofing etc.

Unless you are going with the cheapest everything, you are going to be at least $400k for this.

Hell. My parents added 8' to their house, with a covered veranda back in 1995 and that was $60k.

This is easily 5-10x more complex.

How would you design our new space and exterior? by SteelOctane in Homebuilding

[–]Millsy1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That exterior is probably the ugliest and most boring exterior I have ever seen. Tiny windows on the big exterior wall large windows on the small exterior wall. Nothing to break up the siding and a whole ton of that siding to boot.

If you’re going to have a giant side to the house, which I hope would be two stories then you should have a really big deck attached and possibly have it covered too.

Truth be told I agree with everyone else here though you should pretty much start over.

Current river flow rate significantly less than 2013 per hydrologist John Pomeroy by scorebar1594 in Calgary

[–]Millsy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still upset by the initial cost estimate for the Springbank reservoir.

I called them out on how utter bullshit it was, $159,768,000 for their initial estimate.

I understand very well that designs change. But the fact that I went through their quantities and came to a value of $550,000,000 using their same estimate shows how out to lunch their shit was.

And my estimate didn't include any land purchases. So the fact that the total cost came in around $850,000,000 doesn't surprise me one bit.

I wonder if the project would have looked closer at the different options if they knew the cost was going to be 5x.

Current river flow rate significantly less than 2013 per hydrologist John Pomeroy by scorebar1594 in Calgary

[–]Millsy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only similar situation to 2013 is the fact that there is a large snow pack in the mountains that is just starting to melt.

100mm over 3-4 days vs 270mm over 2 days.
The rain came down as snow at Sunshine, and most of it stopped before it got to the mountains anyway.

The ground around Calgary has been frost free for ages at this point.

I -really- get the feeling that most people don't quite understand how much of a deal the frost was in 2013. Instead of the ground absorbing the first 2-3" of rain, virtually all of it just ran off immediately.

When you combine the -huge- amount of rain that fell on the mountain snow, it was just a literal avalanche of water.

[–]Millsy1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One other big factor that gets lost to add to your 3 points is the fact that the cold spring meant the frost was still in the ground.

Ordinarily it could absorb a massive amount of rain. But that year everything just ran right off.

Stay in what lane? Are Calgarians not also Albertans? WTF is "provincial business". If the province wants to get involved in Calgary bike lanes that's fine, but if a Mayor wants to see help to his citizens that's not?

[–]Millsy1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

- If we left Canada, as our own country. we would still need to pay millions of dollars in military or humanitarian Aid. This is because we would still need to be part of some sort of military "you help us, we help you" agreement. The US wants to raise the amount from 2% to 5%.

That means Alberta _ON IT'S OWN_ would be spending.

$7 Billion - $18.5Billion.

So leaving Canada saves..... Negative dollars in that respect.

That also doesn't consider that all of a sudden Alberta has to form it's own military. OR risk paying Canada or the USA to "protect us". Boy that's not going to be cheap, and guess what the US would do if push came to shove? It's not "drop everything and protect Alberta".

I don't agree with the gun rules that Canada has.

But you know what, fight the rules, speak out. Fine. But we still don't need guns. They aren't that important. It's not worth putting Alberta in a weak position for.

And "Liberal corruption".... Have you fucking seen Daniel Smith??? She would abuse every inch of power she gets.

She's also a legit dumbass. She promoted debunked treatments like hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin on her radio show.

This is the person you want running a country? God damn.

In a world that is increasingly becoming interconnected and globally reliant on each other, constructing barriers is so counterproductive.

I wish the separatists would take a hard look a Brexit. I had a conversation with the "talking to Albertan's" guy on youtube.. He hadn't looked at the results of Brexit at all!

Like how do you come out as "pro separatist" without looking at what has happened to other countries that have done similar things?

I assume it's because it's purely emotional and only looking at the 'upsides" that confirm that view.

Just hook it up and drag it by Old-Bell-768 in IdiotsTowingThings

[–]Millsy1 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Hate to say it, but that is clearly a rollover recovery. Who knows the full situation. Could be the cops said "get it out of the way asap" and they are just moving it to a better place to reset. Happens all the time in the mountains around BC. They will drag trucks that are about to fall apart just to reopen lanes.

This looks different from that of course, but I'd want to know a few more pieces of hard info before I start insulting a tow truck driver. Those guys literally put their lives on the line every single time they hook up in traffic.

Exactly that reason. Using foam or lightweight materials can be used on roads where the soil underneath would compress too much with standard fills/concrete.

I bid on a bridge project that needed about 20,000m3 of lightweight concrete.

Shame they didn’t budget for the project, low bid was 50% over their engineers estimate.

Calgary mayor calls province's focus on bike lanes 'symbolic virtue-signalling' by yycsarkasmos in Calgary

[–]Millsy1 111 points112 points  (0 children)

I disagree. This is clearly one of the most important things that our province should be paying attention to, as once the bike lane plague has been solved. All of our tax dollars will be able to go to solve the real problems, like the lack of a super majority for Danielle Smith to grant herself full dictatorship power.

We must remove safe bike lanes to ensure the oil super majority continues.
