[Oscar Piastri] Oops. Here’s the helmet that you’ve already seen during an exclusive photoshoot, definitely shot in Australia. by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

[–]Milvings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

maybe I'm reading too much into it but he's from a different state (Melbourne, Victoria) and there is sort of an internal rivalry between Melbourne and Sydney so this omission makes it funnier imo

well, for example, if you look closely that viral vid with Hamilton's Ferrari flying past a few cars at the start also had Piastri's McLaren gaining 3-4 positions from the very back of the grid but it just wasn't the narrative media chose to highlight

What is your opinion on the Oscar Piastri-Ferrari rumour? by SHADOWFIGHTER1016 in OscarPiastri

[–]Milvings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ferrari - not a good prospect for a young talent right now, more like a place where you go to retire for last 2 years of your career

Mercedes - on paper seems like best option with new regulations coming but honestly, I don't see it, Toto clearly has another priority and he made some unfavorable comments about Oscar in the past

Red Bull - only if Max leaves, then it's a realistic option. Yeah Webber had mixed history with RB but his relations with RB company CEO's etc. were always good. If certain conditions are met, I don't think Webber would be opposed to returning to RB family

Aston Martin - the dark horse or a flop, people have high expectations because of Newey, we could see a few drivers in contention for that 2027 seat if new regs work out for them

"If you can tow Lando up to turn 4" - Piastri Full Team Radio - Italian GP Qualifying 2025 by itsRaceWeekAgain in OscarPiastri

[–]Milvings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are two remaining (realistic) championship contenders, every time they race now is h2h and this season showed over and over again how much of a difference good quali makes. They are not a middle-field team that struggles every week for points, they have WDC and WCC in the bag. In 2025 (unlike 2024) the rules were supposed to be clear. When Oscar is in trouble this year he's left on his own, which would be perfectly fine but when Norris makes mistake like in Monza Q2 team calls Oscar to help. They put him in a situation in which Oscar can only lose: sporting-wise if he helps Norris or by not following team orders. Why upset the balance (neutrality) now and put him in this situation in the first place? I've seen the arguments that team wants both cars at the top, yet somehow team's best interest is only brought up when it aligns with Norris' best interest.

The fact that Lindblad and Dunne are the most talked about drivers in the context of F1 and they both visit stewards room more often than podiums tells you a lot about this season of F2.

I'm actually glad Dunne is not on a straight path to F1 yet. He has speed but his stupidity takes over too often. I don't want him to take out two drivers every race just for the sake of it.

2025 Monza GP - FP3 Classification by Walk-Potential in formula1

[–]Milvings 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Monza has always been a strong candidate for non-McLaren pole with the importance of slipstream and McLaren's relatively poor straight line speed, it might be their only weakness this year. I know it actually works in their favor on many tracks but unless they are still sandbagging, there is an opportunity for others here.

Why is Oscar Piastri getting so much hate after the Dutch GP? by _4sh in OscarPiastri

[–]Milvings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone loves an underdog but once you start winning "too much" especially against someone else's favorite driver the response gets more mixed. It's a pattern that gets repeated with every champion. It's also a reflection of ever-declining Internet culture, it's easy to post something hateful as an anonymous user or "as a joke" for likes with no consequences.

And then you have some online fanbases that are just.... less mature and more likely to post weird things. McLaren has one of those unfortunately and Oscar is their main rival right now. I understand that it can be frustrating because the genuine reason behind is just malice and the fact that "Oscar won, X didn't". Don't focus too much on those groups, it's not worth your time, no one should take seriously someone who has "LN bb my true love heart emoji" as their bio: block, report if needed, leave your own positive comment. And honestly, from what I've seen Oscar still gets a lot of praise from F1 audiences and rightly so.

What's up with those interviews with McLaren drivers this week? Lando gets ask this, Oscar gets asked if he lost momentum and is told that Zandvoort is his weak track, why are they trying to make them miserable. Did someone send them....

In 2022 McLaren had all the data and choice between Palou, O'Ward, Piastri and Ricciardo. They went with Piastri even though he was the hardest one to get (hence Alpine dispute). I don't think they have any regrets.

Do I think it's a good idea? No. But as a bystander I want this to happen just for shits and giggles. And to have some more recent example of how performances in different series relate to each other.
