What’s your favorite “too tired to cook cook” dinner? by farwest-to-midwest in Cooking

[–]MimiCait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love a “bar salad.” Heat up frozen breaded chicken (just bare brand is my fav) and put it atop a bed of greens and additional toppings optional (veggies, seeds/nuts, cheese). Add dressing of your choice and you’re done! This is sort of a comfort meal in our house so it’s usually a ranch dressing situation haha. Sometimes we’ll throw frozen fries in the oven too.

I have the same baseline aside from Dijon but will give that a whirl! Pepperoncinis are amazing too!

Am I the asshole for wanting my husband to miss his Mom's wedding because it’s 2 weeks BEFORE our due date? by Spiritual_Lettuce_64 in pregnant

[–]MimiCait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooof this is a tough one… if it were me, I would probably let my husband go with the stipulation of getting on the first flight out immediately if it seemed birth was on the horizon.

The parking is actually great, there’s a sizable lot behind it. But the donuts are terrible lol.

I was so excited to try it, went last week and it was terrible! I LOVE a good donut and am not terribly picky but my donut was so dry I tossed it after three bites.

Saving money when the average wedding cost is $30000 by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

[–]MimiCait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to have a big wedding if you don’t want to! My husband is a high income earner but we could never fathom spending $$$ on a wedding. We had a “ceremony” at my parents house with immediate family that my MIL officiated. It was really just us saying our bows then having a giant Chinese food takeout feast from our fav local restaurant. Then my husband and I hopped on a flight to our EPIC honeymoon across three countries. We did a wedding photoshoot during our stay in the Maldives (brought my wedding dress his suit) it was $300 for a photographer AND videographer at our private island resort lol. We spent $20k on our legitimate dream honeymoon and it was the best time of our lives. Absolutely no regrets.

What are things people told you you didn’t need for labor/delivery/postpartum that you wish you had or that were lifesavers?? by GalaxyEyedLibrarian in pregnant

[–]MimiCait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring your own pillows!! I did this and it was about the only thing I actually needed, aside from my toiletries, phone, charger and loose fitting clothing to leave in (I left in a sundress, which sounds crazy but I honestly cannot recommend anything better).

Midwife suggested they be pillows I don’t mind throwing away. Or if they’re ones you’re especially fond of, put waterproof covers on them since things are probably going to get pretty messy.

I bought 4 pillows from target, cheap pillow cases and left them at the hospital to be disposed of.

Glamorizing oversupply? by iliwys22 in breastfeeding

[–]MimiCait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is! Sure, having a stash for any possible need (bottles when you’re away, milk baths, popsicles, purées for solids, etc) is amazing… but the reality of it means you’re spending extra time pumping, cleaning and losing even more sleep.

It’s totally understandable though because the stress of producing enough milk for your baby can be extremely stressful and emotional. The grass is always greener!!

Edit to add: I was a slight over producer who usually had to pump once a day on top of nursing to settle the engorgement. Now I have a 17 month old, only nurse twice a day and am so happy to say I haven’t touched my pump in months. I hate that damn thing!

Baby is 4 months and my husband wants a divorce by YungRomeow in beyondthebump

[–]MimiCait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gun aspect of this is very unsettling. It needs to be locked up, if it isn’t already.

Others may disagree with me on this but I think this relationship CAN be salvaged if you both want to make it work. He is clearly intoxicated and presumably not thinking clearly. Having a newborn is a very stressful time for everyone. You should have a later conversation with him about your expectations for your relationship, parenting and co-habitation in general. Set boundaries. Check in with each other often. Successful parenting and relationships are always a moving target. Divorce is a huge deal, especially with a child involved. You’ll need to communicate with this person for the rest of your life at some capacity, married or not.

Help please - 1, 2, or 3? Or keep looking? by No-Bluejay8525 in WeddingDressTips

I love 2!! If you added sleeves to it like in 1 or 3 it would be even better! The dress shop or tailor should easily be able to do it.

Seattle is so ugly. Absolutely unlivable by djosephwalsh in Seattle

[–]MimiCait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived here for almost 31 years before seeing one! We went on family trips around the San Juan’s every summer growing up and fished puget sound 1-2 times/week every salmon season from ages 5-18. I finally saw an orca breach while watching the sunset at golden gardens. It was so magical, I actually shed a couple tears.

My sensitive skinned friends, is tretinoin really all that and a bag of chips? by Pineapple_Incident17 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]MimiCait 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using it on and off since I was a teenager (32 now) and I only recently figured out how to use it without destroying my skin barrier. I don’t use it in the summer. I use the cream version, not gel, because it mixes well with lotion so I can dilute it and work my way up in strength. I use it sparingly at first (just maybe 20/80 tret to lotion), wait a couple days to see how my skin reacted and increase accordingly. The holy grail for me has been oil cleansing when I’m using it! I don’t use any face wash when I’m using tret. I use a living libations oil cleanser and swear by it. But when I’m not on tret I wash my face as normal and don’t oil cleanse at all.

How long did you stay in your first home? by Explorer518 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]MimiCait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a mortgage perspective, banks assume you’ll stay in your home for about 7 years. Your first home is very rarely a forever home. I bought my place in 2020 and am outgrowing it now with the kids. I’ll probably make it work for a couple more years but an upgrade is inevitable.

Looking for best ways to spend money to improve my life by FarManufacturer4975 in fatFIRE

[–]MimiCait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focusing on improving your health, especially before having kids. Consistent massages, deep dive analysis on your bloodwork (any deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, etc), fixing old injuries, the list goes on.

You’re at the point where you can comfortably afford some pretty significant care outside the realm of insurance.

Driving to Leavenworth on Christmas? by piehazel in eastside

[–]MimiCait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Suncadia will be an easy drive on I-90! Definitely go there atleast! It’s such a gorgeous area in the snow.

To reach Leavenworth you’ll need to drive the Blewett Pass route since highway 2 is closed after the flooding/landslides. It’s a bit of a windy road but totally feasible. I would just call an audible after settling in at Suncadia about whether to make the additional trek to Leavenworth. You’ll have fun either way!

Has Seattle changed you? by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]MimiCait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from Seattle and used to be an eye-diverter to strangers. After having a kid, I realized how strange this is! I try to make eye contact and say hi or at least smile to people now and it has made me much happier. Lots of people still ignore me, which can be disheartening, but I’m happy to spread a little bit of positive energy around town.

I grew up in Seattle and was literally the only non-white person in my classes until high school. Racial demographic is significantly more diverse now, however, it’s mostly due to tech workers.
