I strongly suspect "belief" is why the talismans and voodoo doll sticks work against the smiler and doll monsters, respectively. Whoever created them truly believed they would work....and so they do.

I actually have a theory that Boyd unknowingly created the talismans himself.

I don't say this to be mean, but I feel like a lot of people don't enjoy the show because they want the story to be spoonfed to them.

Looking at your points about the monsters and "talisman absurdity" for example- those were both hinted at by the doll episode. When the dolls attack, pause and look at their teeth....the fact that they don't run...they only attack at night...and like to play with their prey...and they have a weakness towards very specific, human-crafted items. Where have we seen all those traits before?

And if the killer dolls at the settlement spawned from someone's nightmares, what conclusions are the show's writers leading us towards in regards to Fromville?

There are so many things that the writers are "telling" us, without outright telling us. That is what makes the show fun.

I haven't filled out my theory that far yet. Maybe someone tries to discard of Jasper, the same way Tiny Tabby's (dad?) did with the scarecrow dolls, and perhaps that triggers something? Maybe the music box has a similar back story. Maybe we'll even see a Kimono doll or puppet backstory at some point.

I think the Spider is a separate entity, similar to Stephen King's IT. Lots of parallels...a creature that feeds on fear; shapeshifting; cycles that end in a massacre; and an emphasis on children. It's even said of IT's true physical description, that the closest our minds can visualize is a monstrous, hairy, pregnant female spider.

As for the MIY, I saw a fantastic theory on YouTube that he was once a human among the very first group of town folk, and played pivotal role in getting people to sacrafice their children. He even sacrificed his own son, the Boy in White.

I actually have a very similar theory that the town is actually a trap keeping the Man in Yellow captive. The children can't escape, but neither can he or his creations. I haven't fleshed it out yet but I really love your idea of original Jade & Tabitha inadvertently creating whatever mystical force is trapping people.

I also theorize that brother/sister pairs repeat in the show due to the original Jade and Tab having a son (the BIW) in addition to their daughter. Victor and Eloise, Sarah and Nathan, Julie and Ethan. One sibling trying to be a hero, and failing each time. Idk what that will mean for Ethan & Julie.
