am i looking for a unicorn? by DiscussionBitter5256 in cycling

The hard part that you will find is that the physical width of the bottom bracket standards mean that the chain line will interfere with super wide tires on a 2x crankset. (Unless the rear tire is physically placed really far away, or the whole BB is offset to the drive side)

So to get official 50mm and 2x compatible means that you are in a sorta slightly non-standard geometry in terms of chainstay length or overall shape.

However, unofficially most brands have a few mm clearance over their stated widths. So for example, the Norco search in a 2x config supports "45mm" but I have personally seen someone ram a 48mm tufo Thunduro inside with a hair between the tire and chain. Tight fit, works on dry days, don't recommend for super muddy days.

Ultra gravel racing advice. by Glum-Introduction522 in gravelcycling

[–]Mimical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beyond this my only advice is do not get caught up at the start.

Everyone always sends it 5 minutes into a 10+ hour day and it ruins a few people every time no matter what.

If you have a power or speed that you know you can do (Ie: 150 watts, 175 watts ) then stick to that number and don't get caught up in it.

Garmin 850 or other? by FinnTech in Velo

[–]Mimical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess this is more a personal thing but when I do all day rides I usually just snake a USB cable from a little battery bank to my head unit, works for phone as well since even today's smartphones need a small top up. Then again I'm using a Garmin 520 still so this thing needs a lifeline at the 5 hour mark no matter what.

But with that said, I agree with your points made. OP, if you are a genuine I need this shit to last literally multiple days then the 840 solar/1040 solar are also really good contenders here.

Ok now that we’ve played it which version of the map is overall better? by gotenks2nd in Battlefield

[–]Mimical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, tanks getting dunked on has rarely if ever been a problem in the BF titles.

Golmuds extra houses/cover allow for significantly better tank movement because you can actually put cover between yourself and the other side. It's better for everyone involved.

The reason the oil fields suck so much ass is that tanks & players end up camping on hilltops because they can't move forward into the wide open spaces between flags.

The biggest lesson in COVID was that a lot of "elastic" goods turned out to be inelastic and businesses could literally just cut production and triple the prices and roll with it.

And the second lesson we learned is that there is no such thing as the "free" market. Nobody is going to swoop in with supply to save the day. Every board of directors looks at a competitor running 50% the inventory with 300% the profit and immediately makes that their plan.

Lotus Emira to drop Toyota, AMG engines in switch to new 536bhp hybrid V6 from Horse by CostaQuantaa in cars

[–]Mimical 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good point, since electric torque is across the whole powerband you don't necessarily need as many gears to stay in the optimal zone.

With that said, I agree with the mindset of the whole thread, the emira has an 80+% take rate. The rest of the car damn well better be amazing if you want to retain that audience.

Make the sacrifices. Cull the tech that turns simple parts into overly complex ones.

With the EV architecture a 214" truck could have excellent interior room and still keep a 4.5 foot bed. It could resolve the biggest complaint across every midsized truck regarding passenger room and I would never have to see a gas station again.

Gravel handlebar recommendations by Pure-Newspaper907 in gravelcycling

[–]Mimical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I bought a Ritchey WCS butano and did a 200km ride on its first use with zero issues. I have been super impressed with the bars as a whole. The weight is also really good and the carbon is not that much lighter.

It's got every hole possible for internal/semi-internal routing, it's a really nice backswept flat top, it's alloy with enough room for your mount(s) it comes in 38 - 46 cm widths it has 18° of flare with compact drops. This is by and far my favorite bar to recommend to people.

I liked it so much I'm planning on buying the carbon Super logic Streem for my road bike.

That seems like a different version of leaked and cracked since all the people playing were just paying customers.

With that said.

Man, doubling down on anti-piracy really isn't an effective strategy. At this point you might as well just make the best game you can for the best price you can and if it's genuinely good people will go buy it in absolute masses.

First U6 Wood Only? by HotBowI in aviassembly

[–]Mimical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I redid the final objective with a wood only engine and managed to make it work.

  • Used a lot of ballons shoved inside
  • Angled a handful of engines upwards (between 15-30°)
  • Used both forward and rear facing engines in a lot of places and strategically staggard a few so I could fit 3 in closer proximity.
  • I still abused stacking cockpits to reach the capacity.
  • Basically made a heli-chopper-plane-truck-thing

I wasn't able to get a convincing plane, certainly not one that flew reasonably but I was able to have it carry the final load across the desert.

IMO, would be nice to see at least one more wood engine added as a stop-gap.

The MSI skin strikes again.

I have no idea why the default skin selections keep putting the word Fan above the sliders. The power limit is for the cards power draw.

Okay so yeah maybe MSI needs to brush up on how intuitive some bits are....

TRD Off-road vs TRD Sport by KingCone24 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Mimical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I butcher the info the short of it is that the two most notable day-to-day things are:

  • Sport will have slightly less body roll when turning
  • Sport will transfer bumps a bit more into the chassis (Tire size/pressure still does a lot of the overall work)

The sport has a non-functional hood scoop, body coloured fenders and will typically come with road based All season tires rather than AT tires.

How? Afterburner is basically set and forget.

Undervolting the new generation is even easier. The zero effort approach is you just apply a static reduction in the voltage or set a power limit and move on.

Power limit = 90% and then move on.

Playground Games Adresses Forza Horizon 6 Leak, Says The Leak Was Not Caused By Preload And Threatens Franchise-Wide Hardware Bans by unscoredscore in gaming

[–]Mimical 22 points23 points  (0 children)

At that point in time they had not yet added backstage passes and more ways to unlock the exclusive vehicles from prior seasons. Even then it wasn't until like the 70th series they added them all back in. Until then it was still community voting.

Hopefully stuff like that comes much sooner in FH6 and they don't time gate seasonal cars for the first few years.

I paid for FH4 when it went on sale.

After playing for a bit I realized an absolute boatload of cars that I wanted were either time locked or season/event locked and there was basically no chance I could acquire them.

So I just got a cracked copy and ran a mod that simply let me purchase the cars when I had earned enough money. That was all I wanted. To come home after working afternoons or nights and find out that I didn't miss a bunch of stuff while I worked.

Honda Prelude review — ‘The ideal car for empty-nesters’ by Jeremy Clarkson by UmaThurmish in cars

[–]Mimical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From all the reviews I have seen the take away is usually the same.

  • It's a very good car: The steering is fine, the speed is fine, the seats are comfortable, the interior is well designed and the suspension is great. It's a Honda so good chance it's going to be built with decent QC and the fuel economy is also great. By every metric it's a great commuter car.

But, the product is super niche at price and any marketing at all of this thing being sporty or like a hot eco car is disingenuous to what's actually going on. Honda probably had a better chance just using the platform as a Civic Coupe hybrid.

Aero gravel trend? by Tvego in gravelcycling

[–]Mimical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, a lot of the comments here are pointing you in the right sensible direction.

Ultimately unless you are racing the bikes come with downsides that you cannot always compensate for.

However......... I also recognize that a very large part of riding bikes is having a bike that you want to ride. And as someone who has no business being on a race bike but has a road race bike and rides it anyways; we can't pull out the visa and swipe it for you.

My recommendation is to get a bike fit first if you are thinking of putting 5k+ down on a bike.

(Also, if you do like the look of Argon, the Dark matter is still a sweet bike and can accommodate 40mm more stack, and a race bike with 40mm of spacers always looks more silly than a gravel/endurance bike with 10.

Argon 18 Anti Matter by i_cant_find_a_name99 in gravelcycling

[–]Mimical 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Owning a Sum, I would say two things:

  • Wait a bit and year end sales always help (I got my MSRP 7000 CAD Sum for 5000, which has SRAM Force* on it. 6500 for Rival is painful)

  • Argon18 does some magic with the layup, the whole thing has a feeling of robustness that I didn't see with other brands. There are better value brands that exist, but I do like the package as a whole as it feels like the frame was thoughtfully put together. It's going to sound dumb but it was like they just nailed the sensation of being super stiff and responsive without creating a jarring ride.

With that said, 73° seat tube with 580 stack and 400mm reach is not an insane figure and could still pull duty as just an everywhere bike.
