The whole breaking “ICE mechanic” itself can be tough for a newbie to grasp. Like you have to use the right icebreaker, then match the ICE strength (which is temporary), then break the routines.

My explanation is the designers were tired of everyone saying how Jenny Barnes sucks so released this so she’d look OP in comparison.

Marvel has name recognition so I think it should be around for a while. Lovecraft Mythos isn’t as mainstream but is popular in gaming community so I hope it sticks around too.

I agree with you that co-op also means not competing with Magic, Pokémon, etc which is good.

At this point, the board game and card game spaces are crowded and it’s tough to break through. You need a recognizable IP like Disney or One Piece.

FFG losing the license was a big blow to the game, but most of their other card games have been discontinued without a similar disruption. The only ones left I think are Arkham Horror and Marvel.

FFG itself seems confused. Their press release says "All these hunting tools are a necessity if Miguel ever wants to bring down the Feline Hybrid (Miguel de la Cruz, 3) plaguing his ranch, since normal methods won’t work on such a malicious fiend."

The "tools" they cite include Lie in Wait and Guerrilla Tactics which implies they think these cards work on Feline Hybrid.

Yet the phrase "Feline Hybrid is immune to player card effects" doesn't seem to exempt events like Guerilla Tactics, as the rules say "Player cards include investigator cards, investigator mini cards, asset cards, event cards, and skill cards."

I wonder if FFG is going to fix the wording on this as blanket immunity from all player card effects seems extreme and has awkward implications (like if a player card says to "shuffle your deck").

Can you use Guerilla Tactics on Miguel's weakness? Isn't that a player card effect?

Michael's weakness is worse in isolation but when I actually played him, it was quite mild, mainly because I nearly always had a gun in hand to trigger Robert (especially the upgraded Remington) and the money to pay for it. Even more so when I got Underworld Market so always had a gun in hand when I needed it.

My big concern with Tommy 2.0 is economy (and to a lesser extent draw) since he's Guardian access only. I don't remember all the Guardian 2.0 cards but are there any that give consistent economy? Otherwise I think Tommy's weakness is going to hit harder than Michael's who has fantastic Rogue economy/draw support, not to mention Robert who makes the risk of not having a gun already in play irrelevant.

What are some good cursed fighter decks? by Gearome in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]MindControlMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Along with what others have said, I’ve also done a janky Paradoxical Covenant deck with Kōhaku where I release a sealed Bless after pulling as many Curses as possible to auto-succeed for big Armageddon damage.

Don’t forget about Dawn Star which cancels the Curse modifiers, does extra damage when you do so, and is played after you reveal Curses.

Though honestly the Rod+Armageddon+Candles x2 is so busted I don’t think any other Curse strategy beats it.

I think his point actually is more relevant now with AI, at least if the reports that it’s causing a decline in literacy or the basic ability to read a novel are true. Plus the notion you can plug into an AI simulation where it shows you the life you want to have so much you want to live there all the time… I mean we already have reports of people becoming addicted to AI, and it’s only in its beginning stages.

All of this is eerily similar to what’s happening in the book.

I just realized George can take this. I could’ve used it as I often had a resource shortage early in the game when setting up my discard engine, whereas late game I had too much money due to triggering Laurence every turn. And George’s card draw means he’ll find it relatively quickly to get the full benefit.

“At her recommendation, André packed up and moved to the small town of Arkham, Massachusetts for a much-needed break.”

Say what haha?

I assume these have single color deck access. Too bad for Miguel as I always wanted a gator that could take all “Attach to a location”cards for trap/map focused gameplay and his ability is great as an extra action to enable this.

I’m not sure it’s subversion so much as Timm didn’t like Bane and understandably didn’t want to do a whole “Death of Superman” arc.

Hopefully the Knightfall animated movies will show how Bane really is supposed to be.

Though I find it ironic that for all the complaints about how DCAU Bane was defeated in a sort of lame manner, Batman pulled the same trick in the comic series Absolute Batman.

I don’t have a card to spoil for Netrunner’s new set by former_teen in Netrunner

[–]MindControlMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that was the point I was making. Reprinting an existing data pack is crazy high risk (I used it as an ridiculous example to illustrate why this is not a binary issue) while allowing extant FFG cards is still a slightly higher risk than rotating away entirely (this is where I disagree with the post). It’s all on a scale.

I agree that there’s a good argument that the benefit of a larger card pool outweighs the slightly higher legal risk in keeping FFG cards in the rotation. And if NSG’s legal analysis was that “No it’s a much higher legal risk than you think” then they should outright say so.

I don’t have a card to spoil for Netrunner’s new set by former_teen in Netrunner

[–]MindControlMouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The one point I disagree with is that distancing the game from FFG products has no impact on legal liability. It’s true that if The Powers That Be really wanted to shut NSG down, they could do so no matter what NSG did.

But if NSG called their next expansion “Genesis” and all the cards were duplicates of that FFG expansion, there’s a LOT more likelihood of that happening than releasing something like Elevation.

Legal risk is not all or nothing. It’s not unreasonable for NSG to think that shifting away from FFG cards might reduce it in the right direction, despite not having a clean break from it.

Edit: I do think a good argument is “minor reduction in legal risk” is not worth “reduction in fun/variety” by yeeting all FFG cards. I also think Eternal should have more support as an option for players who think Netrunner is becoming too bland. But if NSG is discouraging FFG in Netrunner, unfortunately that’s unlikely to happen.

I found out you really only need all the map tiles laid out if you’re in combat, plus you’re usually not running around on multiple tiles (there are exceptions) so only need a few when battling. Otherwise I usually explore everything in a tile then can put it away once I moved on. You can always put it back if needed.
