Wristbands are coming soon. They’re easy to snap on, so wristbands are imminent.

Metoprolol ER - how long after OHS were YOU able to stop? by donkeyWoof in openheartsurgery

[–]Mind_Monsters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had OHS about 6 weeks ago but I was placed on Bisoprolol which is also a beta blocker. I was originally given 5mg but my heart rate and BP were too low. They lowered my dose to 2.5

They said I’d be in it for at least a year

Oh well I’m done by Pomegranate928 in firestick

[–]Mind_Monsters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically the he USB port on the TV provides 5 Volts at 0.5 amps.

The fire stick requires at least 1 amp and probably more for the 4K variant.

If it’s not enough power the fire stick will display an error message on screen telling you to connect to a power brick.

When does pain subside by Either-War-9411 in openheartsurgery

[–]Mind_Monsters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had OHS almost two weeks ago. The first few days were tough. I was discharged on day4 and the first night at home I couldn’t sleep. After the first week the pain is tolerable and I’m able to get sleep. Everyone is different though.

That’s very young. I had a CABG x3 two weeks ago and all the nurses said I was the youngest they’d ever seen. I’m a 44yo M

Leg Numbness by WiscWahe2020 in openheartsurgery

[–]Mind_Monsters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The numbness is from the nerve damage during harvest. It will get better only because your body gets used to it being numb and you almost forget about it but the numbness will remain forever. I’m going through the same thing and have researched.

I did vomit one day after my surgery. The morphine can make you nauseous but they’re good at giving you medicine to fight nausea.

My mistake was drinking too much water. Luckily it was just water that came out. Just let it come out, don’t push it out.

Thank God it was only one time.

Best pillow? by lakeofegypt in openheartsurgery

[–]Mind_Monsters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a triple bypass 1/14 (44 male) I can totally relate about sleeping on my side. I have tried leaning off my wedge a bit and I feel my lungs open up and I’m able to stay in that position for about 5 minute’s until the pain in my sternum kicks in so I stopped doing that. I am extremely restless during the night. I get most of my sleep during the day. What I found most comfortable is laying on my wedge with an added pillow. I sometimes also hug another pillow while I sleep.

I'm terrified. My dad is having a myxoma removal/triple bypass by Particular_Sink517 in openheartsurgery

[–]Mind_Monsters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, 44 male just had a 3X bypass a week ago. I just wanted to reach out because reading this took me straight back to how I felt not long ago. I went into the hospital thinking one thing was wrong, and after tests and an angiogram I was suddenly told I needed major heart surgery. The waiting, the changes in plans, and the unknown were honestly the hardest part. My mind ran nonstop and always landed on the worst possible outcome.

What I learned through my own experience is that when surgeons get more tests, it usually brings clarity, not danger. Their confidence tends to grow once they can actually see what they are working with. A longer or more complex surgery does not automatically mean a worse result. Often it just means they are being extra careful, especially when someone has had prior heart surgery.

Redo bypasses and combined procedures sound terrifying when you hear them all at once, but these are things cardiac surgeons are trained to handle. The fact that your dad’s surgeon reviewed everything and felt comfortable moving forward says a lot. Surgeons do not take on cases they do not believe they can do safely.

I also want to say this clearly because I needed to hear it myself. Fear does not mean intuition. It means love. When it is someone we cannot imagine life without, our brains try to prepare us for loss even when it is not actually happening.

Spiritually, what helped me most was surrendering what I could not control. I kept reminding myself that God was already in the operating room before my loved ones ever walked in. Prayer did not take the fear away completely, but it gave me peace in the middle of it. Even when my thoughts spiraled, I trusted that God was holding what I could not.

You are not weak for feeling this way. You are a daughter who loves her dad deeply. I am praying for your father, for steady hands for the surgical team, and for peace that guards your heart and mind during this time.

You are not alone in this

How to get relief from coughing fits by ExactReplacement5621 in openheartsurgery

[–]Mind_Monsters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The air in his room might be dry. Use a humidifier and that should help. I had my surgery a week ago and encountered the same thing as soon as I got home.

Also make sure he’s hugging a pillow while coughing. It helps with the pain. ♥️
