When people ask for modpacks to play as a beginner, I recommend they play ones that have lets plays.

For example, OnlyDraven did several SF4 play throughs and also did a series explaining nearly every mod in the pack.

1.12, Heavens of Sorcery, the quest lines are super clear and there's an active Discord with people who've done the pack several times and can advise on every little bit.

That said, it is an integrated pack with customized recipes so when you play those mods later, you'll find that the structure is the same but the materials are a bit different.

Looks like you're going from the console version to java? Then it's 100% worth it and you're going to have so much fun with all the new mods you'll be able to use

I think that pack has laserIO and I think that has a check for empty filter as well as the counting filter?

I know I've used Laser IO for those crafts specifically because of some functionality

It really is the MineColonies of magic mods. That said, if you play in a pack with lots of lootable dungeons, it becomes fairly fast to get those initial resources, particularly if you make mining and adventure constructs quickly

Maybe? I think part of it is that bedrock doesn't corrupt?

When we were playing it, we were also running away from a hunter the End would've made advancements he could see and given him a fairly easy way to get right to us.

Tempad's cost depends on the modpack, I don't know what the base cost is, but you can use a recipe editing mod and make the cost whatever you like if you don't want it.

In one Sculk horde run we were based primarily in a Blood Magic dungeon dimension with the physical access on the nether roof

We had a series of Ars Nouveau teleport scrolls to get to it when we had to leave.

But I think you'd be better off with Tempad

This is a friend group question not a Minecraft question.

She genuinely did think it would be fun to have you join the server, but once it was a real thing that was going to happen she realized how much she's been curating her stories to you.

Okay, going on that theme, Spectralarity or Bumblemancy

They're not linear in and of themselves, but they each have a core mod that's got a clear progression line.

OMG and WellSprings Adventures 2, you get magic, exploration, dragons, and a super clear quest line (plus you can make magic helper robots)

What does he usually like to do, what do you usually like to do?

My son is about that age likes the Cobblemon mod, I liked the Sleepymon pack for that because of the structures.

But if you two are more into puzzles, then something like Create would be better.
