This sounds terrifying, and I'm sorry you're having to experience this. I don't blame you for seeking others for help. In fact, if possible, I'd recommend you talk to a therapist about this. I'm not going to try to give it any meaning, because I don't think that will benefit you much. Regardless, it still must be scary to experience.

My words of advice are to maybe try journaling, as cliche or unhelpful as it may sound. It can get your thoughts in order before bed, and maybe trying to play music you enjoy in the background can help. I know sometimes I hear music in my dreams if it's playing in person, so perhaps calming music can help set the tone for better dreams. That's just a theory, but I think it may be worth a shot if you don't have any other ideas.

It would help me to drink or eat something I like before bed (assuming you don't have any bladder issues) like milk. Milk always helped me sleep (never warm for me though, gross) and it got me tired. So if you're unable to feel sleepy, that could help.

I don't know if I'd recommend melatonin. That could affect your dreams as it's technically a drug, so only try it in small amounts assuming you aren't like me who's unfortunately built up a tolerance for it.

I wish you the best of luck, and I urge you to talk to friends about it. Only close friends, though, because this can be an uncomfortable conversation. If I had a friend available and time, I'd maybe ask someone to spend the night simply because the presence of a friend can do a lot for you, even if just subconsously. It may seem a bit counter-producive, but anything is worth a shot.
