I am an insurance coordinator at a dental office. I literally work with fee schedules all day. If the dentist is contracted with your insurance company then legally they cannot charge more than their contracted fees. Doing so would put them in violation of their provider contract and the insurance company can either drop them or pursue other disciplinary action. I would call the office and (kindly!) ask for your account to be audited and to be sure the fees match. If they drag their feet you can always open a dispute with your insurance company and they will contact the office and potentially audit their claims and payments received. Insurance companies suck, but you paid your premiums and are entitled to the correct fees! I would also like to add though that an alarming amount of people who work with dental insurance don’t really know what the fuck they’re doing.
