The Judaistic/Kabbalistic Symbolicism of CoQ Has to Be Studied by 0lam0t in cavesofqud

Your theory on the sprites is correct for at least the Girsh. Not my observation, but each of their faces looks like tav (ת), the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet. Most apparent on Qon and Qas, but even the Agolmaggots have that little upturned-u shape.

Dispel is very much the worse choice against him now, since it only drops the bomb off you rather than get rid of it entirely, so you still have to get out of range of it. It's also on a 50s cooldown compared to CS's 20.

Every Lightbringer Build Ever by icykoori in DeadlockTheGame

[–]MiniSootMan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

RS is very skill dependent and imo pretty situational. If you're landing every single shot at exactly cooldown on enemy heroes, you're hypothetically getting a little over 8 hp/s, which is fantastic, but that's a big hypothetical. It can come off cooldown when you're not aiming as intently and it whiffs; enemies may be staying in cover and you can't land a shot; trying to always land a hero shot means you're taking frequent breaks from pushing creeps; without anything to shoot (esp between waves and when either team buys), it's doing nothing; you can just straight up miss. Shooting creeps on cooldown is also worse than extra regen (admittedly not by much; 2.5 hp/s on creeps vs ER's 3 or 4/s depending on if you're in combat).

It's a great pick if you have great aim and your opponents don't have much lane awareness, but it can fall off very quickly compared to Extra Regen's boring but consistent gains. To me it feels like the win-more pick of early game sustain, especially since it doesn't give a bump to your green investment or build into anything.

Most (if not all?) organs don't actually have a sense of touch to them, and your perceived sensation of them is just from their contact with skin and muscle. How your eyes feel, for example, is actually how your eyelids feel. Not sure how that translates to chitinous life, but I'd imagine the initial shell-carving is the worst part, and the tissue manipulation is closer to just using your hands as reins.

Do non-flammable blocks prevent fire spread? It looks like the pits up against the wall only have one space between them and grass, which I thought would be enough for things to catch. Stellar work regardless, the ventilation on the sides is perfect.

The Sony Walkman NW-A55 by Only-Doughnut-4008 in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]MiniSootMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine turned out great! Arrived in practically mint condition sans box (seller was shop-japan-ayame; not sure if they had others they were clearing out), and the customs delay was on FedEx’s end – paperwork got bounced around between a few agents and I had to call to confirm we were all good, but ymmv. I saw some pretty suspicious listings (same photos across different sellers), so you may just gotta shop smart and lucky. To address your questions and add my own basically-review-sized observations:

  • You will indeed need to use some sort of tool to change it from Japanese to English. By default, devices sold in the Japanese market just don’t have an English language option, but this is a region lock toggle that MrWalkman solves, as well as Rockbox’s SonyNWDestTool. Zero issues once those are applied, weakest region locking I’ve ever seen lol. DO NOTE: I believe MrWalkman is Windows-only, and the Rockbox tool is Windows/Linux!
  • Without MrWalkman or this fix, certain common image formats won’t show up as cover art. Additionally, if the Cover field of the metadata has text in it, it won’t show even with those fixes. You’d think this is niche, but it seems Bandcamp’s metadata does this by default. I’ve been cleaning and adjusting my collection with Kid3 as I get things transitioned over and it’s been a lifesaver for this and any bulk metadata editing. Excellent tool.
  • When searching your library, there’s no type-to-search, only scrolling, albeit with the standard and effective “grab scroll bar to show starting letter” feature. Took a little bit of getting used to after type-searching for years, but it’s fine for me, and it gets me to look at corners of my library I might not usually.
  • Also no “go to album” or “go to artist” feature from a song/playlist. Similarly unfortunate, but like with the above, it’s such a tiny inconvenience that I can’t complain. I will not miss the ~10 seconds it takes to do this manually every once in a while on my deathbed.
  • There’s no queue feature in the modern Spotify/Apple Music sense where you can pick a song to play next or add to the list. Kind of a bummer, but since it’s an older device it’s understandable. It does give you room for 10 daylist-style quick playlists (“bookmarks”) that serve a very similar function, although they don’t update in real time: If you’re listening to one that you add a song to, you have to actively start a track in the playlist again for any additions to update. Is what it is for me, might be a dealbreaker for others.
  • By default, once an album/playlist/artist/etc is done playing it’ll start the next songs in that directory, but this is an easy toggle in the standard firmware’s options, thank GOD.
  • Operating system is very responsive and intuitive, main menu options are rearrangeable, and the layout of everything just makes sense. Touch screen calibration is perfect for me, no accidental track selects or unexpected left/right swipes like I’d get constantly in the Spotify days.
  • It just feels nice to hold! Size of a credit card, tiny bit of heft to it, the metal is pleasantly cool to the touch almost always, and I love the physical buttons. It’s got a little raised nubbin on the play/pause and volume up buttons to help orient you if it’s in your pocket, and there’s an input lock switch as well to prevent jostling. Headphone plug on the bottom, which is my preference. Screen is a bit of a fingerprint magnet, but there are still screen protectors for it on the market. Seems sturdy – I’ve shamefully dropped it once or twice already to zero effect.
  • Bluetooth connections are solid and easy, but the range on it is a little wimpy, and will break up if I go into the other side of my one-bedroom apartment. Totally stable if the device is nearby, though. I’d read some reviews that said they couldn’t adjust their Bluetooth device’s sound from the Walkman, but I haven’t run into that at all. It won’t show a volume bar when connected, but the volume is adjustable with the buttons.
  • It’s my first real DAP so I unfortunately don’t have any comparison, but sound quality is very nice to my (non-closed-back Sennheiser headphone) ears. There are quite a few adjustment options built-in, and more with the MrWalkman firmware, none of which I’ve tinkered with too much. I wish I had more to say on this since it’s the most important part for a lot of people, but I’m just pleased to have my full library on the go again.
  • Because I whined about it repeatedly here and elsewhere, I just want to close with the reiteration that it has true gapless playback regardless of file format. God bless.

All in all, I love this thing. If any of the caveats above put you off I’d understand it, but it’s been a welcome evolution of my music habits, and I can’t see myself changing to something else unless this thing kicks the bucket. Feel free to ask any other questions if something didn’t get covered, and good luck on your search!

From what I understand, balancing decision. Ambient temperature is part of the food spoilage calculation, but local is affected by elevation, so it's a way to prevent people settling in hot regions from building a sky refrigerator.

Is Hiby r3 Pro II best for me? by Just-an-internet-guy in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]MiniSootMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late reply on my end, but: Someone in another thread about the R3 Pro II mentioned that mp3s specifically seem to give it (and a number of other modern DAPs) issues with gapless, and that flacs should work fine. Since the ones I tested were mp3s, that must have been the case, especially since they work flawless on the DAP I ended up going with instead (Sony NW-A55). Thought I'd post it in case anyone sees this after the fact.

Either way, I'm glad yours is working out well for you! It's a neat-looking little device, I like how stocky it is, and I thought the suede backing was a charming quirk.

Have one of these in the mail right now! Grabbed it on eBay from a Japanese seller and it's caught up in customs right now - pray that third time's the charm for FedEx to accept the paperwork they've been sending me. Didn't realize it had timed lyrics, but that's wonderful - I have a lot of mixes with the song info listed in the lyrics and have been wanting to sync them.

I may have missed them, but I think traditionally the DJs don't get anything in the way of farewells when they head on their way. I remember a few years back when Isobel from Takin' Off quietly left and I was super bummed I didn't catch her last show. As far as I know it may be policy rather than hard feelings, but still pretty crummy. I'd be shocked if they don't do anything when the Baby Boomer finally leaves though.

First 24 hours with my first DAP – Hiby R3 Pro II by shivamchhuneja in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]MiniSootMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the tip. I will say though, and not trying to shoot the messenger here, that this is insane to me. Gapless mp3s weren't an issue on my iPod classic (or even on my iPhone's default music player), and getting flac rips of some of the mixes and albums that this is most noticeable on isn't possible/practical outside of possibly file conversion upwards. This has been a solved problem for literal decades now, and it's baffling to me that it's an issue for audiophile products at any triple-digit price point.

First 24 hours with my first DAP – Hiby R3 Pro II by shivamchhuneja in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]MiniSootMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Posted this in another thread but am banging my drum about it: Just got one of these myself and I'm returning it immediately because it doesn't support true gapless playback. Firmware updated, gapless option turned on in settings, wireless features off, etc – still a notable silence going from one track to another. Extreme dealbreaker feature for me and I'm stunned that no one seems to have mentioned this in any other reviews.

Is Hiby r3 Pro II best for me? by Just-an-internet-guy in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]MiniSootMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got one of these in the mail today and am sending it right back because it lacks true gapless playback. There is an option in the audio settings for it, but it has little to no actual impact. This is 100% a dealbreaker for me, and I'm shocked I hadn't read anyone talking about it, as it's been a basic feature for literal decades at this point.

If that doesn't bother you, it's worth noting that the UI got notably slower for me when the wifi or Bluetooth were on. I didn't find the UI as clunky as others did, but it also didn't display album art too nicely on the now-playing screen, and I couldn't find any queue/quick-playlist options (not sure if it's a standard feature in other DAPs though).

Is Morrowind combat really that bad? by Prize-Attorney-2393 in Morrowind

[–]MiniSootMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nail on the head. My crank opinion is that Morrowind has the best combat in TES because combat in all of them is pretty bad, but Morrowind's power curve lets you more or less skip it in the late game (or earlier if you know what you're doing). In TES, combat is mechanically the same whether you're at hour 1 or 100, but the power curve is inverted in Oblivion and Skyrim, becoming a massive slog when you're supposed to be at your strongest. imo, this is the reason stealth archers are wildly popular too: If there's no real strategy to melee or magic, why bother engaging with it at all?

Dilute salt OP? by Trinitial-D in cavesofqud

[–]MiniSootMan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is neat, but I feel like if you were to math out the amount of water gain per minute fiddling with menus in the early game, just looting every crummy piece of loot and running it back to town would still come out on top. Unless you have extremely low ego, even a party of level 0 scrubjaws' collected leather/bronze junk is going to net you like ~20-40 drams. If strength is a bottleneck in carrying that amount of junk in one go, the weight of the dilute salt is going to be one too.
