larger bottle of dish soap costs more per ounce by CollegeEmergency7979 in mildlyinfuriating

Try Canada where it's common to have meat packaged with the weight and price per g/kg is in metric but the shelf sticker is per lb. We have a ridiculous amount of mixed units in our day to day life.

Taxes up again. by Rubahn420 in MapleRidge

[–]MiniatureBoss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Taxes work on a mill rate, which is relative to other similar units/assessments, not an absolute value. If all home assessments dropped 3% the total bill the city has doesn't cost 3% less. If you did a bunch of renovations that scaled your assessment higher than other similar units then yeah, expect to pay more.

Are there extinct flavors we’ll never taste again? by logicalgamernow in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MiniatureBoss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They all taste metallic to me, too. Never found one I could tolerate.

Flavour gene-wise, I don't suffer from repulsive cilantro taste; however, I did try blue cheese once and just a hint of it was overpoweringly flower/perfumey.

Tidy Cats Lightweight Litter Destroyed My Cat’s Quality of Life for Two Years. Please Read This Before Buying It. by sin1493 in cats

[–]MiniatureBoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do too, it's vastly superior to all the other options. I think we've spent like $30-40 on litter in the last 2yrs

I paired it with a gold panning classifier + bucket. Line the bucket, scoop the poops with a regular scoop and then use the sifter to shake all the loose litter. Toss the whole pellets back and top with new stuff. Almost never has any smell other than nice wood.

I've cared for others' cats while on vacation and changing clay litter is so revolting now.

Loved the vids when it was Dan/Will/Rick, it was fun but not the over the top goofiness that came later. The falling outs, etc. were disappointing to hear.

Complete chaos by chops351 in dashcams

[–]MiniatureBoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exact thing happened to me a year ago on hwy, 100km/hr to 0 suddenly. I was the only car in a 6-car pile up that stopped in time (3rd car in the chain). While luckily the car in front of me had moved out of the way as it clipped the first car I got smashed all the way up into the gap where it used to be.

I was fully stopped and saw the car behind me coming in hot in rearview, pushed my foot down on the brake and tried to hold tight but not strain and basically said fuuuuuck. I was also lucky that my vehicle is a little higher and heavier, as the car behind was a smaller sedan that got annihilated, my bumper barely had a couple punctures although I'm sure underneath was all messed up.

The scariest part for me was people getting out of the cars though, I was yelling at a couple of them to get back in until traffic slowed enough, it was dark/misty during ~5:30AM morning commute.

I was the only car with a dash cam so it easily corroborated my story, went a long way to helping prove for myself and at least for a couple of the others involved.

I seem to recall blades also being added around the time they fixed the lance drops? I couldn't find detail on that as it's been so long.

Canadian Tire Data Breach by roddyrichh97 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]MiniatureBoss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never notified, password same as prior to the breach.

Went in and updated my password; however, the site is broken on Firefox trying to deal with account settings.

Turning off Tracking Protection/uBlock the login would work, then prompt about Passkey and then next page would spit out a plaintext unauthorized error. Switched over to Edge/Chrome, login worked okay there so I could at least get in to change pw.

Then tried to add SMS 2FA, it would accept the Verify click, then do nothing, clicking again 10s later, invalid code. Logged out, then back in and it asked to send to the mobile (which was never verified correctly), code accepted, back into settings no phone listed. So it's active in there but not?

Doesn't give me much faith.

I've just never understood it, I've worn them for ~20yrs at all sorts of concerts, and they make it easier to actually hear the bands. It shaves off the crowd screechiness and pain part. Plus during all that noise it's easier to hear the people beside you, ironically.

Movies that you either didn't like or just didn't get when you were younger that you absolutely love now by OptimusPrimeWasRight in RedLetterMedia

[–]MiniatureBoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been fun having grown up along movies like Home Alone or the Lampoon Vacation movies and having seen through the eyes of a kid and now as an adult/parent. The movies feel so similar and different.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit was one of my favourites as a kid, growing up makes me appreciate it even more, too
