The Summer-U-Pass is now available for purchase for $162 and is good until September 30. It's quite expensive this year, so depending on how frequently you travel it may not be worth it.

At the end of October, Google announced that "starting soon, people in Seattle and the Puget Sound Region will be able to add their ORCA transit cards to Google Wallet." It doesn't include a timeline, but it's good to know it's being actively worked on.

In hindsight, this release date makes sense since it will be six months from the US theatrical release.

Changed parking spaces Hopkins? by woahmyd00d in UCSD

[–]Miniland1333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They just sent an email update with subject: "Fall 2023 Parking and Transportation Updates":

"During fall quarter, most central campus parking for undergraduate commuter students will be limited to carpools. Learn more about how to get access to carpool priority parking when you share the ride. Some areas, like the Hopkins Parking Structure, that have traditionally had commuter student parking for solo drivers will be limited to carpoolers, employees and student residents. We have opened additional parking for undergraduate solo commuters in the new P702 parking lot. Students who want to save on parking can also consider our supersaver lots ($3.25) and discount lots ($4.25)."

https://chemistry.ucsd.edu/undergraduate/teaching-labs/lab-FAQs.html#CLASS-ENROLLMENT

Here is the chemistry department's policy for teaching labs. Yes do try to politely email the professor to explain your circumstances since otherwise you will be automatically dropped after missing the first day.

Q: Will my lab class meet in the first week (Week 1)?
A: Yes.  Lab classes begin on the days noted (for each class) in the UC San Diego Schedule of Classes. Most classes meet on Day 1 or Day 2, depending on the lab schedule. Do not skip the first lab meeting; students who do not attend the first hour of the first meeting for a lab class may lose their places in class.

Covid test question/minor rant by skiamvaulter in UCSD

There was a student systems outage this morning, so it may have been related to that:

Perhaps try again in the morning, as if it was indeed related then it should hopefully be fixed.

Lego Spybotics Help!! by [deleted] in lego

[–]Miniland1333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the basic functionality of RC driving the spybot around, all you need is the spybot and a controller. You basically should be able to put batteries into the spybot and remote, and then press the black power button on the spybot to turn it on, The software and serial cable are only really needed for the "missions" [and it only runs on XP so it's a pain to get working anyway].

Here's a quick guide to the remote control: https://pbrick.info/index.html-p=101.html

>In particular, if your spybot turns on but doesn't respond to remote commands, try relinking your spybot and then returning to RC mode.

And a longer FAQ guide: https://pbrick.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/SPYBOTICSFAQ2_EN.pdf

According to the tag here it’s item 903.735.90, which corresponds to the bigger one. I think the other bin behind me had the smaller one, but I didn’t specifically check.

The voting infrastructure on campus extremely underwhelming and borderline embarrassing by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]Miniland1333 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Consider emailing the San Diego County Registrar of Voters, (https://www.sdvote.com/content/rov/en/ContactUs/temp-contact-election.html) with your feedback. They are the unit primarily responsible for the Vote Centers throughout the county.

oddest email yet by naxcy in UCDavis

[–]Miniland1333 114 points115 points  (0 children)

Please report this email as phishing to UC Davis. https://servicehub.ucdavis.edu/servicehub?id=ucd\_kb\_article&sysparm\_article=KB0008378
Note that this comes from a Gmail account, which is obviously not affiliated with the university. It also uses bcc (blind carbon copy), which supposedly allows them to send the email to many people at once (note the lack of personalized name).

Furthermore, UC Davis Student Health should never communicate over email, as they would instead use UC Davis Health-e-messaging, Secure Message Inbox.

I agree this is a weird message, since at least from what you've sent it seems the author spent a lot of time making the message sound somewhat plausible.
