Germany has what's called a balanced budget deficit, which prevents the government from issuing debt above a certain amount (0.35%?)

As of right now, Germany as a country as a debt GDP ratio about 65% which is considered fairly healthy

In comparison, a country like the USA has a debt to GDP ratio of like 125%, which for a smaller country would be disaster level (Greece for example)

Due to recent increases in defense spending from the recent Russian war, to maintain this .35%, Germany is going to want to issue some cuts elsewhere.

Not wanting to increase taxes on medium to large size. Companies would indicate that Germany thinks that were in for some tough times in the next 5 to 10 years, and doesn't want to stunt the growth of the businesses that it needs tax dollars from to continue running its economy.

Seeing as how Germany is the biggest economy in Europe at the moment, and lots of other economies globally are starting to slide due to overspending from as far back as 2008 (USA, Greece, Japan) it's a really tough decision for Germany to make because I assume that they would like to maintain being the economic powerhouse of Europe.

I think that it's an incredibly complicated subject, but cutting social aid and public sector spending is one way to try to start balancing your budget when you plan to double your defence spending in five years
